Third try for RADAR

February 28, 2007 - RADAR, the pop culture, politics and scandal magazine, which launched twice in the last four years, has launched once again.  The target audience is urban youth interested in "thoughtful, long-form articles.

Editor-in-chief, Maer Roshan, continues to oversee this publication, which will publish 10 issues per year. The newest debut issue came out in February and a circulation of 150,000 copies for the first six issues is guaranteed.
 

Regional wedding magazine launched

February 28, 2007 - WELL WED IN NEW YORK focuses on wedding professionals and businesses from the Tri-Lakes area of New York: Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.  Topics include flowers, photography, catering, event rentals, and wedding destinations.

A sister title of VERMONT VOWS, this magazine will be published bi-annually.  Additional information was not immediately available.

Lifestyle magazine for Maine launched

February 26, 2007 - THE MAINE SWITCH is getting ready to "help singles and young families embrace a fun, fulfilled and informed Maine lifestyle." Topics include fashion, home improvement, family time, food, arts, music, technology, outdoors, fitness, and events, and is geared towards an audience from 25- to 45-years-old.

Karen Beaudoin is editor of this weekly magazine from Maine Community Publications. The premier issue is due out on Greater Portland's newsstands March 15.
 

 New magazine is all heart

February 26, 2007 - HEART INSIGHT is for heart patients, their families, and caregivers, offering information on "managing and preventing cardiovascular disease and related conditions, such as stroke and obesity and will provide readers with the most up-to-date, authoritative and practical advice.

Ruth Papazian is the editor of this quarterly magazine from the American Heart ssociation and is being published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins.  The debut issue, due out by the end of February, will distribute 10,000 copies to cardiologists' offices and healthcare providers and is available by subscription.
 

Noted editor plans new journal

February 26, 2007 - LAPHAM'S QUARTERLY will feature articles that look at current events from a wide range of historical perspectives. The focus is on opening "the doors of history behind the events in the news.

Lewis Lapham, former editor of HARPER'S MAGAZINE, is editor of this quarterly publication, which is set to debut in September.
 

Travel magazine adds new content

February 26, 2007 - As of the March issue, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER has added several new sections to its magazine to interest readers looking for authentic cultural experiences.

Hotel Central: reports on hotels and the relationship to a traveler. City Life: news and information about popular city travel destinations. Cutting Loose (Get Active, Port of Call, Road Trips and National Parks): enriching a traveler's experience upon their arrival.
 

New regional magazine for LGBT business audience

February 26, 2007 - FORWARD AUSTIN "aims to educate, entertain, and promote the gay and gay friendly business community" of Austin, TX.  The audience is comprised of professional or business owners who are gay, have gay employees or clients.

The quarterly magazine, published by the Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, debuted with its Spring 2007 issue. Distribution is at area bookstores and retail shops, by subscription, and an initial 1,000 copies going directly to area business owners.
 

New Canadian magazine for kids

February 26, 2007 - ZAMOOF! is for Canadian readers ages eight to 13 years and is "first fun and entertaining but has a strong underlying purpose and that is helping youth make safe and healthy choices now and the teen years ahead."  Content includes fun pages, movie reviews, comics and stories, and a regular editorial feature.

Founder TeLeni Koochin oversees this Dream Wave Publishing magazine. Eight issues are published per year and are available nationwide in Canada by subscription or in most Chapter and Indigo stores.  The website is http://www.zamoofmag.com.

New magazine for those who advise the wealthy

February 26, 2007 - PRIVATE WEALTH will target "professionals who, at the minimum, are controlling $500 million in client assets and whose clients, at the minimum, are worth $5 million to 10 million and up."  The audience are advisors, assistants, brokers and service professionals "that cater to the financial, legal and lifestyle needs of the rich.

Russ Prince, Hannah Grove and Dorothy Hinchcliff are the editors of this bimonthly magazine from Charter Financial Publishing Network, publishers of sister title FINANCIAL ADVISOR.  The debut June/July issue will have an initial circulation of 30,000.
 

Advertising primer supplement launches

February 26, 2007 - MIXX (Marketing and Interactive Excellence) has been created to "provide marketers and agencies with interactive advertising primers for various platforms, including mobile, digital video, display, search, user generated content, email, gaming, lead generation and local."  Each issue will highlight a specific topic in the interactive advertising industry.

The monthly magazine is a collaboration between the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), Adweek Magazines, and Media Ventures Inc and will appear as a supplement to ADWEEK, BRANDWEEK and MEDIAWEEK magazines. The debut issue appeared on February 19. Additional information was not immediately avaialable.
 

Regional music magazine relaunches

February 21, 2007 - SD MUSIC MATTERS has re-emerged after 1 1/2 years as MUSIC MATTERS MAGAZINE.  The focus is still on music, art, and culture, but extends beyond San Diego into all of Southern California.

Jen Hilbert is editor of this bi-monthly magazine, which currently prints 5,000 copies.  The website is http://www.musicmattersmag.com/.
 

New magazine for Virginia emergency workers

February 21, 2007 - VIRGINIA FIRE & RESCUE will "explore the challenging and changing roll of Virginia's emergency service providers."  Topics include emergency medical services, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire, career development, industry-wide issues and new products.

Jason Campbell is managing editor of this quarterly magazine, which will debut on Thursday, February 22.  Distribution is by subscription.

Luxury magazine for windy city planned

February 21, 2007 - MICHIGAN AVE. is the title of a new luxury lifestyle magazine for the Chicago area.

The bi-monthly publication is from Ocean Drive Media Group, publishers of sister titles OCEAN DRIVE and ATLANTA PEACH.  70,000 copies are expected to be mailed to qualifying households. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Sister magazine springs from IN STYLE

February 21, 2007 - YOUR LOOK caters to 16- to 20-year-olds who are interested in beauty and fashion news but also want a chance to share their own fashion sense.  The magazine plans a "very strong real-people element" so that readers know "that their voice is being heard."

The quarterly Time Inc. publication is set to debut on March 2, with 400,000 copies being distributed to IN STYLE subscribers in the right age category and another 425,000 copies on newsstands nationwide.
 

New North Carolina lifestyle magazine launches

February 16, 2007 - NORTH CAROLINA SIGNATURE is all about a "modern interpretation of the New South."  Topics will focus on shopping, style, homes, luxury downtown living, restaurants, wines, and destinations. The audience is "active, educated, unfussy and confident."

Elizabeth Hudson is editor of the quarterly magazine, which will be poly-bagged with sister title OUR STATE starting with the debut issue in March.  Newsstand distribution can be found in the following regions: Asheville, Charlotte, Greenville, Triad, Triangle and Wilmington.
 

TV host to launch magazine

February 16, 2007 - Ty Pennington, host of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is expanding into the magazine market.  TY PENNINGTON STYLE will "probably cover" topics such as "renovation, decoration ideas and labor-saving tips."

The magazine is being published by Hachette Filipacchi and will debut in May.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Scholarly journal to look at the psychology of art

February 16, 2007 - PSYCHOLOGY OF AESTHETICS, CREATIVITY, AND THE ARTS will present "original research on aesthetic perception on all facets of creative behavior, production, thought and development and research on psychology and the arts, including the use of the arts in clinical practice."

Co-editors James Kaufman, Jeffrey Smith and Lisa Smith oversee this quarterly publication, which debuted this month. The publisher is the American Psychological Association.

Information technology magazine launched

February 16, 2007 - CRNTECH will be taking in-depth looks at the business benefits of adopting and deploying the latest products and processes for information technology professionals.  Topics include business growth through product implementation, new product reviews, comparisons of similar products, how to craft a technology solution, tech tools, and gizmos and gadgets.

Scholarly journal to look at the psychology of art. Heather Clancy is editor of this monthly magazine from CMP Media.  The first issue came out on January 29.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Trade publication to cover modern design

February 14, 2007 - FORM: PIONEERING DESIGN will be "featuring emerging talents and their brilliant, precedent-setting work in the areas of architecture, interior, landscape, furniture and product design, and materials and technology."  The target audience is urban architects and professional designers.

Jennifer Caterino, editor-in-chief of sister title LA ARCHITECT, will oversee the editorial direction of this bi-monthly magazine from Balcony Media.  The debut issue is due out in June and will be distributed nationally on newsstands.
 

Midwest Airlines renames in-flight magazine

February 14, 2007 - Midwest Airlines announced that its in-flight magazine, MIDWEST AIRLINES, will cease publication, and restart on March 1 as MYMIDWEST.  The new name and larger format "reflects the unique ownership the airline's customers feel for the brand and their growing sense of community as Midwest Airlines loyalists."

Ink Publishing has been chosen as the publisher of MYMIDWEST. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Regional Chamber of Commerce magazine launched

February 14, 2007 - GULF BREEZE MAGAZINE covers the economic growth, lifestyle and tourism of the northwest Florida community between Ft. Walton Beach and Pensacola.  The focus is on keeping a small-town feeling for a region that continues to expand.  Each issue follows a seasonal theme.

Austin Holt is editor of this quarterly publication from Ballinger Publishing on behalf of the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce.  Distribution is at area shops and by subscription.

Regional business magazine launched

February 12, 2007 - PACIFICO is subtitled "Greater San Diego's Business Catalyst" and instead of covering hard news, business coverage is handled through profile pieces.

Rafael Cabrera is publisher of this Tools For The Capitalist magazine, which debuted in November 2006.  Although planned as a monthly, reported problems with the printer created a release delay of the second issue, which was February.  Distribution is by subscription.
 

Magazine focus shift leaves many perplexed

February 12, 2007 - VENUS, known for its support of a mainly gay African-American audience over the last 13 years, is changing gears.  The "new theme is how God can deliver you from being gay."

At this time, publisher Charlene Cothran has not had a shift in the distribution model, which includes a number of high profile book and music stores, or subscription numbers.  Business aspects are sure to change as readers and advertisers realize how different the main theme really is.
 

New Hampshire gets new homestyle magazine

February 12, 2007 - NEW HAMPSHIRE HOME MAGAZINE is getting ready to deliver "expert advice, practical suggestions, ideas for improvement, decorating tips, and gardening and landscaping information" for the most affluent of NH's residents, those who own homes valued over $450,000.

Andi Axman is editor of this bi-annual title, published by McLean Communications.  The first issue is due out in April; the second expected in September.  Distribution will include newsstands throughout the state. Sister titles include NEW HAMPSHIRE MAGAZINE and NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW.
 

Canadian talent featured in new magazine

February 9, 2007 - AMAZING CANADIAN showcases innovative literature, design, film, music and fashion.  The focus is on one-on-one interviews with aspiring talent throughout Canada.

Founder Hikaru Cheung oversees this magazine, which debuted with the December 2006 issue.  The next issue is expected in March.  Distribution is nationwide at Chapters and Indigo stores.  Additional information was not immediately available.

February 7, 2007 - JAMROCK MAGAZINE is published in New York City but the content is a guide "to everything Caribbean – its music, fashion, lifestyle and people."

Founded in 2006, Kim Jack Riley is managing editor of this bi-monthly publication, which distributes 165,000 copies on newsstands and in bookstores, cafes and retail stores nationwide.
 

Philanthropy lifestyle magazine launched for Bay Area

February 7, 2007 - BENEFIT is all about philanthropic efforts in the San Francisco Bay region with an audience that includes " everyone from the largest nonprofit to the individual who is passionate about making a lasting and positive contribution of time, energy or donation."  In addition, coverage is given to style, fashion, events, venues, food and wine, and energy.

Tim Gaskin is editor-in-chief of this bimonthly magazine, which debuted with the September/October 2006 issue.  50,000 copies are direct mailed to qualified households, 45,000 copies to the magazine's partners, and 5,000 are distributed at fundraisers and events; subscriptions are also available.
 

Storytelling magazine to launch

February 7, 2007 - SMITH magazine follows the concept that Smith is the most popular surname in America and "represents us all, each of us living our extraordinary lives, day by day, story by story."  The focus is on memoirs, social networking, and sharing the art of storytelling and is currently on the Internet in blog format.

Larry Smith is founder and editor-in-chief of this magazine, which plans to debut in print in spring 2007.  The website is http://www.smithmag.net. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Artistic community chronicled in new magazine

February 7, 2007 - BEYOND RACE is an "arts and culture magazine dedicated to uplifting the human race, our relationship with each other and the world around us."  The target audience is interested in the independent, underground artistic culture that exists within New York City and beyond.

February 5, 2007 - SKIRT!, a woman's lifestyle magazine covering work, family, health, style, profiles and local products, will begin publishing a Knoxville, TN edition beginning in March.  Currently this magazine is found in Charlotte, NC, Charleston and Columbia, SC, Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL.  The tone is "a little edgy, a little out of the box" as well as fun and uplifting.
