The Archives: August, 2004 New magazine for Hispanic college kids August 28, 2004 - iCarambaU is a new quarterly magazine to target the over 2 million Latinos enrolled in colleges and universities, as well as some high schools. It is published by NY based LatCom Communications and will have a 100,000 circulation, distributed via dedicated racks, Latino fraternities and sororities, and college papers in such elite schools as Harvard, UCLA and Rutgers. The four issues yearly will be split up, with two in the fall, and two in the spring. It will feature personalities and information that will interest students who are from the Hispanic culture, but who live and are being educated in the US. The first issue will be its September/October one. Two issues are planned for this year with a rate base of 500,000 copies. Frequency jumps to nine issues next year, with an increased rate base of 650,000. The cover price is $3.99. "Cottage Living is for people who value comfort over formality and simplicity over grand style," said editor Eleanor Griffin. "We'll show stylish and inviting cottages that reflect and celebrate their owners' personal style." Both publications were acquired for $6 million cash. Body & Soul, founded in 1974 as the New Age Journal, covers healthy eating, exercise, natural medicine and mental health. The magazine, which changed its name in 2001, is published eight times a year and has a circulation of 200,000. "Body & Soul provides MSO with the opportunity to both enter a new, promising market and to launch 'natural living' as a new 'omni' lifestyle category and brand for the company," MSO President Sharon Patrick said. According to the publisher, Shop Etc "combines the thrill of entering your favorite stores with the services of a skilled personal shopper." It will cover fashion, home and beauty shopping for 25-49 year old women "using a sophisticated and stylish approach that is fresh and innovative". Mandi Norwood is editor-in-chief . The new title will be published three times in 2004 and 10 times in 2005. It will launch with an initial rate base of 400,000. Plum magazine is new for mums Aug 4, 2004 - The inaugural issue of Plum, the first pregnancy magazine aimed at women over 35, is to arrive in doctors' offices this fall. The magazine, which is to be produced by Groundbreak Publishing, is described as a joint effort with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. To start, Playlist's editorial will be split 60/40 between technology- and music-driven content. The technology section of the book will cover the player itself and help users navigate the group of companies that produce iPod accessories, as well as the growing landscape of legal and even free music-sharing sites. It will debut with the June 2005 issue in a standard magazine format combining editorial and advertising and will have a distribution of 150,000. The cover price will be $3.95. Modern Media will publish three issues in 2005 and six issues on a bi- monthly schedule in 2006. The magazine will offer inspiring stories, many submitted by readers, combining the quintessential American ability to find the "silver lining" in life. In addition to submitted articles, Chicken Soup for the American Soul will cover family, food, fashion, home, health, travel, lifestyle, entertainment and culture. Editor-in-chief is J. The new magazine addresses more than just the 'party side' of life with thought provoking articles like Positively Black and One Voice: Stories of triumph, stories of inspiration. One Life Inc is a family and community based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving communities of color (African-Americans, Jamaicans, Haitians, Africans, etc).
