Local magazine launches in Cochrane, Canada

October 1, 2008 - COCHRANE CONNECTS is a biannual that launched last week.  It targets new and established residents of the eponymous Canadian town.  Content focuses on local people, places and events.

Brandi Dickman is the editor of the magazine, which is published by Frog Inc and has a circulation of 10,000+.  The magazine is delivered to all Cochrane households and at events and rack locations in Calgary.
 

Literary journal highlights mountain culture

October 1, 2008 - WHITEFISH REVIEW is a biannual literary journal based in Whitefish, MT that publishes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, photography, cartoons, and interviews, :with a slant toward mountain culture."

October 1, 2008 - WHERE WOMEN CREATE will debut as a quarterly in Nov and target imaginative and inventive women.  Content will focus on creative women in a diversity of fields, and their workspaces.

The magazine will be distributed in the US and worldwide, and have a launch circulation of 24,000.  Stampington & Co and Chapelle Ltd will be the publishers.
 

New local to launch in AL

October 1, 2008 - SYLACAUGA MAGAZINE will launch on Oct 15 and be published every nine months by a partnership of the Sylacauga (AL) Chamber of Commerce and The Daily Home, a local newspaper.  Content will include local news; local attractions and tourism spots; industry; education; recreation; annual events; and listings of civic, social and professional organizations.

The magazine will be distributed to advertisers, in relocation packages, at the Chamber of Commerce, area visitor and information stands, retiree and tourism expositions, and state welcome centers.
 

New cultural journal accepts submissions

October 1, 2008 - FORGE is an independent "cultural journal" that includes fiction, poetry, artwork, photography, and reviews of films and music.

New magazine for football fans

October 1, 2008 - BLITZ is a new quarterly from Spann & McCormick Publishing.  It targets football fans and covers professional football (NFL, Canadian, Arena), as well as college, high school, and Pop Warner ball.

James McCormick is the editor-in-chief of the title, which has a circulation of 55,000 throughout the US and Canada.
  

Fast News – more new magazines

SIGNAL BUTTE is published three times a year by Dickinson State University (ND) and targets fans of the school. The focus is on in-depth human interest stories.

Milwaukee to get new magazine

September 29, 2008 - ALT- will launch next month as a free quarterly in Milwaukee and target 18- to 40-year-old residents of and visitors to the city.  Content will focus on new and alternative music, entertainment, artists, designers, economics, dining and bars, and events.

Food Network host to launch magazine

September 29, 2008 - SANDRA LEE SEMI-HOMEMADE will be a bimonthly that will debut with the Feb/Mar 2009 issue.  The target audience with be home and style enthusiasts.  Content will include entertaining tips, home decor advice, and recipes.

Hoffman Media LLC will publish the magazine, which will have a print run of 280,000.
 

Beantown has new sports magazine

September 29, 2008 - OT, which stands for Our Town/Our Teams, is a new weekly targeting fans of Boston's sports teams.  Content will include sports analysis, game previews, and fantasy sports reports.

Mark Cofman is the editor of the magazine, which is published by THE BOSTON GLOBE and has a launch press run of 20,000.  The title is sold at 420 locations from southern NH to southern RI.
 

Children's fantasy magazine to launch

September 29, 2008 - LABYRINTH'S DOOR is an advertising-free, bimonthly fantasy magazine targeting 8- to14-year-olds.  Each issue will contain fantasy/adventure stories, poems, mazes, puzzles, a young author story, how to draw pictures, and a comic section.

September 29, 2008 - HOMEFRONT LA will launch in Jan 2009 and target individuals who appreciate luxury.  Content will focus on home life, design, and décor, and include profiles of LA homes and landmarks; trends; Q&As with architects, builders, designers and other professionals; neighborhood resources; and first-person essays.

September 29, 2008 - ELIXIR INTERNATIONAL will launch in Oct and target individuals who seek longer, better lives.  Content will focus on anti-aging, cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetic surgery and dentistry, and aesthetics, and include celebrity interviews, hair anti-age reviews, and health spa reviews.

Oskar Keysell is the editor of the glossy, which will be published in the UK by Elixir Press Ltd and be available internationally by subscription.  It will also be distributed free to spas, cruise ships, luxury hotels, gyms, airport business lounges, and on private charter jets.  The initial print run will be 100,000 copies.  In 2009, the magazine will be published in Mar, Jun, and Sep.
 

American Express Publishing to launch luxury lifestyle title

September 29, 2008 - ELEVATIONS is a new quarterly from American Express Publishing that will target those who enjoy a luxury lifestyle.  Content will include sports, home decorating, fashion, art, culture, travel, dining, and a regular column by professional golfer Nick Faldo.

A global circulation of 50,000 will be achieved via distribution to Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences and mailing to the homes of club members.

DRUGSTORE CANADA replaces PHARMACY POST

September 29, 2008 - DRUGSTORE CANADA replaced PHARMACY POST this month.  The new Rogers Publishing Ltd business-to-business title still targets pharmacists and business owners, but the relaunched magazine has regular sections devoted to over-the-counter and natural health products; cosmetics, skin care, and personal care trends and products; strategies and tips on managing the store and staff; trends and tips on front store categories and merchandising; new products available to drugstores for the coming season; and leisure pursuits such as travel, food and wine, contests, and reviews.

Vicki Wood is the editor-in-chief of the monthly, which has a circulation of 16,500 and is distributed in Canada and the US.
 

Bilingual magazine highlights global fashion

September 29, 2008 - DEPESHA launched in NY as a bilingual (English and Russian) biannual on Sep 11 and targets the hip affluent.  Content focuses on global fashion, designers, beauty, and lifestyle trends.

Stephan Rabimov is the editor-in-chief of the glossy, which has a circulation of 5,000 and is available in the US and Russia.
 

Bioscience magazine to launch in Michigan

September 29, 2008 - BIOMATTERS will launch as a biannual in Nov and target Michigan's bioscience companies, academic and research institutions, bioscience service providers, and related organizations.  Content will focus on discoveries, trends, issues, and personalities in the state's bioscience community, as well as funding sources.

New literary journal from the San Francisco's Bay Area

September 29, 2008 - BEESWAX MAGAZINE is a quarterly independent journal of literature and art.  Content includes fiction, poetry, non-fiction, travel writing, visual art, and cross-genre and collaborative works.  The target audience is anyone "interested in writing as tangible art."

New magazine for fans of poetry and art

September 24, 2008 - ORANGES AND SARDINES is a quarterly poetry and art magazine.  The journal features both conventional and experimental poetry, as well as photography and paintings that are accompanied by interviews with the artists.

September 24, 2008 - GREEN LIFESTYLES ON PLANET PARADISE is a new quarterly that targets individuals interested in sustainable living.  Content focuses on architecture, art, ecotravel, energy, interiors, outdoors, communities, food and wine, and mind, body, and spirit.

September 22, 2008 - CELEBRATIONS will be a new bimonthly targeting Disney fans.  According to Tim Foster, who co-edits the magazine with Lou Mongello, "We are still holding out hope for [a] September [debut], but it's more likely the first issue will be reaching people by the first or second week of October."  Content will focus on events and attractions at Disney theme parks and resorts, past and present films, and Disney history.  Games and scavenger hunts will also be included.

The title, which will be published by Celebrations Press Inc, will be distributed internationally.
 

Philadelphia to get eco-conscious magazine

September 22, 2008 - GRID will launch as a bimonthly in Philadelphia on Feb 15, 2009. The target audience will be advocates of community sustainability.  Content will focus on food, shelter, energy, transportation, ecology and culture.

DC fashionistas get new magazine

September 19, 2008 - FW, a fashion magazine, was just launched by Washington Post Media.  It targets sophisticated shoppers in the District of Columbia.  Content highlights style trends, local designers, boutique owners, celebrities, and fashion-focused books.

The second issue of FW will be published in Nov.  It will be monthly in 2009.  Jennifer Barger is the editor of the glossy, which is distributed with The Washington Post to nearly 100,000 subscribers and is also available at upscale boutiques, salons, restaurants, and hotels around the DC metro area.
 

Local magazine launches in GA

September 17, 2008 - DOWNHOME is a new quarterly that targets residents of Colquitt County, GA.  Content focuses on local history, food, citizens, events, adventures, challenges, and accomplishments.

September 17, 2008 - GO-55 PLUS launched in Aug as a biannual aimed at younger senior citizens, specifically those in the 55-70 age bracket.

Cheryl Saper is the editor of the magazine, which is published by Communications Solutions and has a circulation of 15,000.  The title is distributed in Winnipeg.
 

Bluegrass fans to get new magazine

September 17, 2008 - JERUSALEM RIDGE MAGAZINE will debut at the Bluegrass Celebration, Oct. 2-5th in Rosine, KY.  The quarterly will target enthusiasts of bluegrass music and include news, profiles, and interviews spotlighting bluegrass performers, supporters, and fans.

Ron Malec is the editor of the title, which will be published by Keystone Direct and have a launch circulation of 7,500.  The magazine will be distributed through acoustic music retailers, record dealers, bluegrass festivals, and concert venues throughout the US and Canada, and internationally by subscription.

One literary magazine replaces another

September 17, 2008 - NEW SOUTH has replaced GSU REVIEW as Georgia State University's art and literature journal.  The new magazine, a biannual, is published by the school.  Contents include fiction and poetry from emerging and established artists.

Fashion magazine launches from San Francisco

September 17, 2008 - ONE EIGHTY debuted this month.  The biannual covers fashion, art, photography, and lifestyle in San Francisco, the US, and international cities.  The target market is fashionistas.

Cheryl Locke and Jonathan Kyle Farmer are the editors of the magazine, which is published by Academy of Art University.  Eleven thousand copies of the launch issue are available at galleries, cafes, museums, and bookstores throughout San Francisco and at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York.
 

Women in the Volunteer State to get new magazine

September 15, 2008 - SERENDIPITY is a free monthly that will debut on Oct 1 and target women in northeast TN.  Content will focus on finance, relationships, fashion, home decorating, health, and history. Horoscopes, recipes, puzzles, book and restaurant reviews, and community events will also be included.

Janet Cose is the editor of the magazine, which will be produced by Clinch Mountain Publishers.  The title will initially be distributed in wire racks in the region, but subscriptions will be added in the future.
 

Granite State gets new monthly

September 15, 2008 - THE NEW HAMPSHIRE TROUBADOUR is a new monthly targeting residents of and visitors to the Granite State.  Content focuses on the state's history and heritage, towns, natural topography, tourism and sites, economic development, landmarks, and people and groups who make "a positive difference in their community."

Mike DeBlasi and David Lazar are the editors of the magazine, which has a circulation of 50,000 and is given away free in NH.  The magazine does not accept advertising.  Robert Finlay is the publisher.
 

Canadian men to get new magazine

September 15, 2008 - THE MALE PERSPECTIVE will launch is Jan as a bimonthly targeting 28- to 54-year-old Canadian men with average household incomes of $75,000.  Content will include sports, entertainment, technology, business and finance, food and wine, health and fitness, and automobiles.

Mike Dunphy is the editor/publisher of the magazine, which will have a circulation of 75,000, with 40,000 newsstand issues and 35,000 distributed at sporting events and special promotions.

Canadian magazine focuses on sex

September 15, 2008 - THE MOOSE & PUSSY is a new literature and art quarterly that focuses on erotica and targets fans of the genre.  Content includes essays, stories, poetry, humor, and art with a sexual or romantic theme.

September 15, 2008 - PARENTING EARLY YEARS will target parents of newborns to preschoolers, and PARENTING SCHOOL YEARS will target parents of kids from kindergarten to fifth grade.  Both with be the offspring of PARENTING when the original publication ceases in 2009. The two magazines will continue to cover child-rearing, children's and women's health, diet and nutrition, beauty marital relationships, getting organized, travel, and seasonal ideas, but they will do it differently based on the demographics of their targeted audiences.

Susan Kane will be the editor of both titles, which will be published by Bonnier Corp and be distributed in the US, Canada, and internationally by subscription.  PARENTING EARLY YEARS will have a circulation of 1.65 million; PARENTING SCHOOL YEARS, 500,000.
 

Locavores in Manhattan get new magazine

September 11, 2008- EDIBLE MANHATTAN launched on Sep 10, targeting foodies in Gotham.  Content focuses on local growers, producers, and restaurants; ethnic eats; tales from NY chefs; culinary history; and epicurean trends.

September 10, 2008 - THE LUMBERYARD is a new biannual that targets poetry and visual arts fans, as well as prospective poetry aficionados by using "the power of the visuals to draw people in."

September 10, 2008 - MINDFUL MAMA, a green-lifestyle magazine that targets parents and parents-to-be who are "passionate about creating a better world," will launch in Nov.  Content will focus on pregnancy, birth, and raising a family.
