Beach Holme Publishing, now celebrating more than a quarter century of quality Canadian publishing, remains a press true to its regional and literary roots and loyal to a mandate to promote indigenous creative writing to the wider Canadian public. Beach Holme's name derives from the original name of the owner's house which looks out at the calm waters of Vancouver Island's Cadboro Bay, the Pacific and the mountains beyond. Holme is Norse for island, so the allusion seemed appropriate on several fronts. Their DON'T is, please don't make any submissions unless you are a Canadian. Apparently this even excludes U.S. literary agents with Canadian writers. Their site is beautiful, titles look great. But remember, Canadians only. CINAR Films Inc., a Canadian publisher of children's animated videos and educational books, purchased EduSoft Ltd. for $40.2 million last week. The move will allow CINAR, which produces the Emmy Award-winning children's television show "Arthur," to expand its base of children's entertainment and education products. EduSoft provides multimedia educational titles for consumers and schools in more than 40 countries.
