What's the Don't Page for? Sunday Bennet was talking about magazines, but she put it very well: "I would love to find out what any magazine editor DOESN'T want by way of submissions. I've found as a freelancer there are times that I simply have to take the Writer's Market at its word. There just isn't enough money to buy several sample copies of each and every magazine I might like to write and submit to. "

And now, it is time to DON'T!  Our newest additions are on this page. Others are in alphabetical order on their respective pages.

Many publishers of children's books are going into buying mode.

"I noticed you still show Little Tiger Press on your site as a house that is open to new writers.  Unfortunately, they are no longer accepting unsolicited mss as a result of their recent affiliation with Futech Interactive Products." -- Shelli Cornelison

"I received a rejection from Books in Motion last month stating: we regret to inform you, that due to the enormous amount of material we have received, and the backlog it has created, we are not taking on any additional material at this time. " -- Dominique Benoit

CCC Publications says:  We Only Publish Short (1-liner) Humor.

Alternative Literary Publishing and Cambrian Publications asks that no more submissions be made this year.

Melissa Thompson, editor at Beyond Words, says, "We don't publish fiction."  There's a period at the end of that choice statement.  No ifs, no ands, no buts. Period.

In Print Publishing has moved from 6770 W. State Route 89A 346 in Sedona to P.O.Box 20765 in Sedona AZ 86341-0765  I'd move too, with an address like that.   Correct page 367 in the current Writer's Market.

Insight Books Trade comments: "We don't do trade."  Yes, trade is in the name of the company, and yes, Writer's Market 99 page 228 specifically states "Publishes trade nonfiction hardcover --"  Confused?  The listing is for three divisions.  Click here to see what Insight, Plenum and De Capo Press ARE publishing.

Doral Publishing on page 190 of Writer's Market 99 has their URL with an extra l in it.  It's http://www.doralpub.com/ and not /doralpubl.com as listed.  If you have a book about dogs, for young children this sure looks like a gooden.

Tom Kyle at Abique Publishing:  "We avoid computer and IT type books."

Ecco Press is joining HarperCollins effective in July:  Daniel Halpern will join HarperCollins as editorial director of the new HarperCollins imprint and will also be named executive editor of the HarperCollins Adult Trade Division.  His first books with HarperCollins are scheduled for January of 2000.

Graywolf Press does not accept genre fiction.  What does that mean?  It means your work should not be written to formula and should be intellectually challenging, or at least stimulating.  When all else fails, go to Amazon.com and look up the publisher's books published recently.   If those titles don't look as if they would fit a book like yours, Adios amigos.

Ariadne Press is ONLY accepting submissions for their contest at this time.

Papier-mache Press is ONLY accepting ANTHOLOGIES.  "We are not accepting any single-author manuscripts at this time."  All the subjects in their listing must be an anthology or don't submit it.   Click on their name to find out what themes they are currently looking for.
