New showcase for Northern KY real estate

May 8, 2008 - NORTHERN KENTUCKY REAL ESTATE, a new, free magazine, is now available in Kroger, Wal-Mart, banks, realtors' offices, and other locations in the Northern KY area. The publication targets home buyers and sellers in Campbell, Kenton, Boone, Gallatin, Grant, Owen, and Pendleton counties. Some 30,000 copies of the magazine made up the initial printing. Beyond the listings of existing homes, new home construction, multi-family properties, lots on which to build, and community directories, the magazine also includes information on topics such as how home mortgages work, how much house a buyer can should consider, and home inspections.

The magazine is published by the Northern KY Association of Realtors. Jim Schack is president.

 
New magazine will cover IT issues

May 8, 2008 - ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT QUARTERLY will launch in August 2008. The quarterly publication will be exclusively for executive managers, providing solutions for intricate IT issues. Written mostly by IT executives, the magazine will create a niche for communication between executives, IT professionals, and business solution planners on a functional, rather than a purely theoretical level. The magazine will also feature reviews of new products and experiences.

EMQ will be distributed to 42,000 business and technology decision-makers in mid to large organizations, throughout all major industries. Marina Ricci is the editor-in-chief, and Boston Hannah International is the publisher.
 

New journal launched for orthopedic practitioners

May 8, 2008 - CURRENT ORTHOPAEDIC PRACTICE is a peer-reviewed, general orthopaedic journal that translates clinical research into best practices for diagnosing, treating, and managing musculoskeletal disorders. The journal publishes original articles in the form of clinical research, invited special focus reviews, and general reviews, as well as original articles on innovations in practice, case reports, point/counterpoint, and diagnostic imaging. Published bimonthly, the journal covers the spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, and foot and ankle, as well as pediatric orthopaedics, orthopaedic trauma, and sports medicine. The target market includes orthopaedic surgeons, trauma surgeons, clinicians, and researchers worldwide, physical and rehabilitation specialists, and other clinical professionals with an interest in new and established orthopaedic surgical techniques as well as the comprehensive treatment and management of the orthopaedic patient. Circulation is 1,000.

New journal accepting personal nonfiction

May 8, 2008 - MEMOIR (AND) is a new magazine seeking submissions of personal accounts through, as its tag line implies, autobiographical prose, poetry, essays, graphics, lies, and more. Published biannually by the Memoir Journal Foundation, the magazine is available by subscription and in bookstores.

New scholarly journal examines race and ethnicity


May 8, 2008 - RACE/ETHNICITY: MULTIDISCIPLINARY GLOBAL CONTEXTS is a peer-reviewed journal that offers new ways for scholars, activists, and practitioners of the subject to exchange vital information, perspectives, and insights with each other. The publication contains comprehensive investigations, field pieces, and original essays that map the evolution of scholarly engagement with the theme.

It is published biannually by Indiana University Press and is available by subscription. The editors are John Powell and Mac Stewart.
 

Northwesterners get new sports publication

May 8, 2008 - SPORTS NORTHWEST MAGAZINE is a new, monthly publication from Media Index Publishing Group. Targeted to residents and fans of OR and WA (and not just their sports teams), the magazine covers destinations; sports gear; existing and growing sports like disc golf, kiteboarding, mountain biking, and fantasy baseball; as well as minor league teams and the better-known Seahawks, Sonics, and Trailblazers.

Relaunched magazine targets achievers

May 8, 2008 - SUCCESS has relaunched after ceasing operations in 2001. The magazine is targeting the growing sector of entrepreneurs and home-based and small-business owners by including features that cover practical advice, ideas, tips and training on leadership, goal-setting, time-management, selling, and motivation. Renowned authors, experts, and thought leaders provide information to enhance business, relationships, wealth, and well-being. Currently bimonthly, the magazine will go monthly in October 2008. Circulation is 500,000. Distribution is by subscription and through national sales at major bookstores and retail outlets.

The magazine will serve the US green building market by reaching the largest commercial contractors and builders, architects, engineers, distributors and suppliers, all parties responsible for purchasing green construction materials. Each issue will focus on case studies, sourcing, technology, management, and product news. The magazine will reach 12,000 print subscribers and is published by Milo Media LLC.
CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY is set to launch in Fall 2008, targeting commercial tool, supplies, and light equipment distributors and rental businesses. The publication's goal is to help readers do their jobs better, more effectively, and more efficiently. This magazine is also published by Milo Media LLC, with each issue focusing on case studies, sourcing, technology, management, and product news. Distribution will be by subscription, with a circulation of 15,000.
KARIBBEAN UNDER ONE is a new magazine aimed at Central Florida's growing Caribbean community. The publication is edited by Michelle Allman, a Jamaican immigrant. The glossy quarterly grew out of her former newsletter. In addition to articles about cultural events and profiles of newsmakers and new businesses, the magazine covers health, immigration, and religion.
DISNEY EN FAMILIA will debut its premier issue on July 14, 2008. Disney Publishing Worldwide is launching this magazine targeting Hispanic moms who reside in the US and want to preserve their heritage and traditions. The quarterly publication will be completely Spanish language, offering parenting tips, recipes, party ideas, learning fun, travel tips, and ideas for preserving cultural traditions. Each cover will spotlight a different Latino celebrity parent and his or her everyday life with children. In addition, a Disney section will showcase previews of Disney movies, products, and attractions.
 

New foodie mags keep churning out copy

May 6, 2008 - EDIBLE ALLEGHENY is another new foodie magazine that will showcase local products, this time focusing on the Allegheny region of Western Pennsylvania. The magazine will publish bimonthly from April through December and welcomes essays, compositions, and features from the local food community.  Stories and anecdotes about farming, gardening, and making the region more sustainable can be sent to editorial@edibleallegheny.com.  Regular features in the magazine, which targets affluent, civic-minded readers, will cover food news, books, and culture; seasonal menus, recipes, and fresh ingredients; experiences about community-supported agriculture; regional restaurants cooking with local ingredients; local wineries, breweries, and enthusiasts; and a listing of farmers' markets and green events.

Foodies get more to digest

May 6, 2008 - EDIBLE FINGER LAKES, a new culinary magazine featuring Central New York, is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the regional food scene, with a focus on the many farms, vineyards, culinary artisans, chefs and home cooks, farmers’ markets, food shops, country inns, restaurants, and cafes.

Michael Welch is the publisher of this quarterly magazine from Edible Communities Publications that targets affluent, educated, community-minded consumers who are passionate about local foods and sustainability.  Stories are people-based and the pages are filled with color photography, artwork, and recipes.

The publication is distributed at wineries, grocery stores, and bistros in the 14 counties that comprise Central New York, and by subscription. Advertisers receive a free supply to give away to customers.
 

New magazine will cater to foodies

May 6, 2008 - FOOD NETWORK MAGAZINE is the tentative title of a new publication to be launched through a team effort of The Hearst Corporation and the Food Network.  The bimonthly magazine will target food lovers and cover trends, products, and everything else related to food and cooking. The first issue is set to debut in Fall 2008.

SPACES is a new magazine from The Day Publishing Company that will debut on July 2, 2008, targeting readers in eastern Connecticut and focusing on the region and how to make one's home more comfortable and beautiful, inside and out. Stories will cover the latest kitchen wares; food; gardening; before-and-after home-improvement projects; local designers, builders, and remodelers; and some of the most beautiful homes in the region. The monthly publication will be edited by
Eileen McNamara.
NJ TUNERS is a just-released seasonal magazine dedicated to serving the import car tuners of New Jersey. Every issue features modified Jersey rides, coverage of Jersey events, reviews of products, and tech talk.
NEW MEXICO BUSINESS MAGAZINE will be a new regional business title from Vertical Ascent, LLC, targeting CEOs, high-level executives, managers, and owners of small businesses. The magazine effectively replaces the NEW MEXICO BUSINESS JOURNAL, which closed shop earlier this year. Doug Stinewill serve as publisher.
 

New magazine targets baby boomers in Central Virginia

May 5, 2008 - THE NEXT50 is intended to reach affluent baby boomers in Central Virginia.  The bimonthly magazine, just launched by Target Media, includes articles on second home and second careers, financial planning, local resources for retirement planning and caring for elderly parents, and active lifestyle issues from fitness to nutrition, travel, gardening, and cultural and dining offerings.  Publisher Eric Lund's target audience is under 65, the adult children of seniors who are influential decision makers in their parents' assisted living. (The magazine carries a number of ads for such facilities.) And like Lund himself, his readers also may be responsible for young children.  "I have an eight- and a ten-year-old," he says.

With an initial run of 15,000 copies, THE NEXT50 is distributed free on over 200 news rack locations in a nine-county region of Central Virginia in and around Charlottesville. Additional distribution is made to professional and real estate offices, medical offices, and active 50+ and seniors’ communities, and 2,000 copies are distributed inside home-delivered and newsstand copies of the Sunday New York Times in Central Virginia.
 

Anglers get new magazine

May 5, 2008 - EDDIES: REFLECTIONS ON FISHERIES AND CONSERVATION is a seasonal magazine targeted to anyone interested in fish culture and conservation.  It is published by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in keeping with its mission of working to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.  Topics covered include fish species, habitats, catching fish, the tackle industry, and profiles of important players in fishing culture.

New magazine fuels ethanol industry

May 5, 2008 - VITAL, a new magazine that will target the people behind the ethanol industry, as well as the people most impacted by the benefits the industry has to offer, will be printed on 100% recycled paper.  POET, a leading ethanol producer is the publisher.  Each issue will include articles on the future of ethanol, community profiles, environmental advancements and industry issues, along with POET biorefining updates and editorial columns.

California, Nevada, and Hawaii see green

May 6, 2008 - CALIFORNIA GREEN MAGAZINE, NEVADA GREEN MAGAZINE, and HAWAII GREEN MAGAZINE will be launched on July 1, 2008, by The Green Living Expo.  Printed on 100% recycled paper with soy-based ink, the quarterly publications are dedicated to a better life through smarter living.  The magazines target affluent readers with eco-friendly products and services, and sections dedicated to green kids, building and remodeling, health and beauty, organic and natural products, green livng, eco-fashion, eco-cars, associations and non-profits, and natural food.  Each magazine is a promotion tool for green events and their advertisers. Each magazine will have a distribution of 40,000 to start.  They will be distributed in the top 18 markets in California, Nevada, and Hawaii, by subscription and in locations such as natural health food stores, grocery stores, and salons.

Knitting publication targets North American enthusiasts

May 6, 2008 - VERENA KNITTING will launch its North American distribution this summer.  Available in Europe for ages, the North American edition will feature Americanized knitting instructions, lots of explanations, and pictures. Verena appeals to the young knitter's fashion sense and the veteran knitter's desire for classic patterns.  The magazine targets sophisticated knitters who are looking for the best in yarns and accessories.

Vikant Crafts Publishing will distribute 150,000 copies of the North America edition in knitting shops and by subscription. Valerie Kurita is the editor of this quarterly magazine.

May 5, 2008 - CONDO OWNER MONTHLY, a magazine targeted to condominium owners and condo advertisers in Rhode Island.  The publication reports on the benefits of being a condo owner in today's economy.  Topics covered include achieving financial independence by owning a condo, making a condo more energy efficient, and updated condo fire codes.

Fans of the arts get new magazine in Monmouth County, NJ

May 2, 2008 - The Monmouth County (NJ) Arts Council has just released X● IT ARTZENE, a new quarterly magazine that strives to bring visibility to the art happenings in the county. Features include X●it Art, where you find out where you could wind up if you took any Monmouth County ramp off the Garden State Parkway and followed directions to a fine or funky art experience; In Strange Places, which celebrates the unconventional and looks to linkages that might not be obvious; Legends and Legacies, which honors the creative continuum, the blending of different generations of artists; and Check It Out, which connects a vast network of arts organizations and events across the county.

New journal targets individuals with creative talents

May 2, 2008 - Pineapple Media Ltd. just launched DOSSIER, a biannual journal that features interviews, essays, photography, poetry, drawings, fiction, film reviews, recipes, and fashion profiles.  Skye Parrot is the creative director, and Katherine Krause is the editorial director.  The magazine was born out of their desire to provide a forum for many of the creative people they know to contribute projects and ideas in a free form magazine.

Magazine for Catholic educators relaunches under new name

May 2, 2008 - Hillside is the new publisher of HEART & MIND, which has relaunched under the new name, MATER ET MAGISTRA.  The magazine targets Catholic educators with the tag line, "Educating the Heart and Mind in the Catholic Home."  Features include a unit study pull-out section; resource reviews; and columns on literature, science, and the Liturgical Year.  There are lots of opportunities for readers to contribute.  Distribution is by subscription.

New magazine written for and by Canadian youth

May 2, 2008 - Vegas Style Publishing is getting set to launch VIDEOSTAR MAGAZINE, which will concentrate on the music video, television, and film industry.  The target audience includes people who yearn to become the next actress or model conquering the entertainment and fashion industry. The magazine will explore all sides of the business from production, to the procurement of models, to insights on how to break into the business.

The release date is May 10, 2008.  The publication will be distributed in the top 18 US markets.

● Wal-Mart has gotten into the publishing business with the release of a new magazine supplement, 30 DAYS OF HOME. This home design publication will be used to promote Wal-Mart's Canopy line of home furnishings. The supplement will be distributed free at Wal-Mart stores and in the June issues of COUNTRY LIVING; GOOD HOUSEKEEPING; HOUSE BEAUTIFUL, O AT HOME, O: THE OPRAH MAGAZINE, and REDBOOK.
● The Glover Group has launched NASHVILLE ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT, a city entertainment guide to local art, theater, dining, music, history, shopping, and professional sports. In addition to newsstand sales, the magazine will be distributed by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce.
● The Repository (newspaper) of Stark County, Ohio, just launched ABOUT, a monthly magazine focused on county residents. "About will provide connections for Stark County residents who are already living their best life — it will show their faces, affirm their lifestyle and help them perfect their lives," said About Editor Darla Brown. The magazine will be delivered to doorsteps in select neighborhoods as a sample, and is available for purchase at The Repository and at several retail locations. Subscriptions are also available.
● Bantam Spectra just launched SPECTRA PULSE, a magazine for science fiction and fantasy fans. The publication features articles, excerpts, and interviews from Spectra authors, as well as specially-commissioned art, Spectra news, staff picks, and games and puzzles. Copies of the inaugural issue are available at comic book conventions.
 

New magazine focuses on business aspect of hip-hop

Vegas Style Publishing will release the first issue of HIP HOP BUSINESS JOURNAL on May 10, 2008.  The new magazine will focus on the business aspect of the hip-hop culture and the impact it has worldwide by highlighting the value of education, wealth management and entrepreneurship.  The target audience is Generation X and Y enthusiasts of the genre.  HHBJ will be distributed in the top 18 US markets.

New teen girl magazine will lack skinny models

April 29, 2008 - MIR Communications will soon launch CANADIAN TEEN GIRL, an inspirational magazine targeted to the demographic represented by its title.  The publication will promote a healthy and positive body image featuring female athletes and musicians rather than models.  Every issue will include articles on street style, social and environmental responsibility, career advice and information, eco-chic fashion, general fashion and beauty, and movie, book, and music reviews.

Alexandra Kimball is the editor-in-chief of the quarterly publication that will have an initial circulation of 200,000 and be distributed in over 500 urban high schools in major markets.

New magazine for the New York fashionistas

April 29, 2008 - New York Media Holdings, publishers of NEW YORK, debuted their spinoff publication, NEW YORK LOOK, on April 15.  This twice-a-year fashion magazine focuses on the bi-annual fashion week season, with coverage of behind-the-scenes fashion week logistics and politics, parties, personalities, and the creative process.

The magazine is edited by Maya Powell, is available on newsstands and by subscription, and is expected to have the same affluent readership as its upscale big sister, NEW YORK.  The next issue of NEW YORK LOOK will be published in November 2008.
 

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER launches East Coast edition

April 29, 2008 - THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER has launched an East Coast version dubbed THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: PREMIER EDITION.  The publication will have daily morning delivery to New York subscribers and additional circulation of 10,000 on Manhattan newsstands.  The magazine will offer day and date coverage of the New York and East Coast entertainment markets with a focus on news, analysis, and data from Wall Street to Madison Avenue.  It will also provide industry news from Hollywood and around the world.

NCAA launches magazine supporting intercollegiate athletics

April 29, 2008 - The National Collegiate Athletic Association has launched CHAMPION, a quarterly magazine with the mission of illustrating how good people do great things to support intercollegiate athletics.  CHAMPION is written and edited for the NCAA membership, but the topics are of interest to individuals who follow the issues surrounding intercollegiate sports.  Each issue recaps NCAA news from the previous three months, including a regular column from NCAA President Myles Brand, reader feedback and commentary, news developments, short profiles on people involved in college sports, summaries of activity from around the Association, recaps of championships, statistics, research, puzzles, book and movie updates, and media reviews.

Copies of each issue are provided at no charge to athletic administrators and coaches at more than 1,000 NCAA member institutions.  Annual subscriptions are also available.  Gary Brown is the editor of this magazine with a circulation of 30,000.
 

Wall Street Journal will have magazine spin-off

April 29, 2008 – Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., current owner of Dow Jones News Service, will have Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio and Tina Gaudoin as publisher and editor-in-chief, respectively, of WSJ., its upcoming weekend magazine.  (Yes, the period is part of the magazine’s name.)  This luxury lifestyle quarterly magazine will debut in September with a U.S. circulation of 800,000 targeted to the 15 largest metro markets, including subscribers with a median household income of $300,000, plus a newsstand distribution.  An addition 167,000 copies will be distributed in Europe and Asia. The company hopes to make WSJ. monthly in 2009.

With “The Luxury of Choice” as its tagline, Gaudoin says she intends to make WSJ. “…the authority on modern wealth,” and that the magazine will differentiate itself with wit and irreverence.

● On Father’s Day, Promise Keepers Canada will launch SEVEN, a Christian magazine with a primary audience of Canadian men. The magazine will uphold Christian principles, be thoroughly rooted in Christian understandings, and provide information and perspectives grounded in a biblically informed worldview, but it will not shirk from an edgy approach and no topic is off limits.
BEACHBLVD BRIDE, a coastal Mississippi magazine designed to help engaged couples plan their weddings, will launch in June as a spin-off of the one-year-old BEACHBLVD magazine published by the Sun Herald. It will appear twice a year and be mailed free to each bride whose engagement is announced in the Sun Herald. It also will be distributed at key bridal registries through the area, in all advertiser locations, and at bridal events. Dana Sleger is the magazine's editor.
● Curtis Circulation recently debuted the first issue of GIRLS GONE WILD magazine, which follows in the footsteps of its similarly-named older sister, the GIRLS GONE WILD video/DVD series. The target audience is 18-to-35-year-olds. Each bimonthly issue will feature editorials and pictorials of the scantily-clad Girls Gone Wild girls, tours and events, and a DVD.
● The Star Press of Indiana will launch M MUNCIE MAGAZINE in mid-June 2008. Larry Shores will be the editor of this upscale, quarterly magazine aimed at people with an interest in travel, dining out, recipes from local and regional chefs, arts and culture activities, recreation, healthy living advice, financial tips, fashion trends and home décor. The magazine targeted advertisers who want to reach that audience, but will be available for sale at select newsstands. A subscription service is also likely.
 

New magazine highlights gospel entertainment industry

April 24, 2008 – THE GOSPEL MAGAZINE is a relative newcomer that bills itself as “the official voice of gospel entertainment.”  Partners Yusuf Vernon and Aundre Franklin, age 27 and 29, respectively, are targeting an equally young demographic of readers with features that include interviews with gospel entertainers; reviews of movies, CDs, and stage productions; and testimonies.  Advertising is restricted to religious topics.

This quarterly publication has a print-run of 40,000-50,000.  Its distribution is currently limited to Atlanta and all of Florida, with mass mailings to radio stations, music conferences, and record labels across the country.
 

New Canadian men’s magazine debuts

April 24, 2008 – SHARP, a luxury lifestyle publication for ambitious and successful men debuted on April 21.  Targeted at Canadian men aged 25-54, who value intelligence, style and sophistication in their personal brand, Sharp is published six times per year with a circulation of 150,000.  Starting in June, Sharp will be distributed in Air Canada’s Maple Leaf lounges.

The magazine covers health and wellness, music, entertainment, alcohol, recipes, style tips, gadgets, and issues of social significance and global scope.  It also includes celebrity interviews.

New women's Magazine to focus on eco-friendly lifesytle

April 24, 2008 - POSITIVELY GREEN, new quarterly magazine geared towards women who want a no-nonsense solution guide to living a greener, healthier life, will launch in bookstores and retail stores nationwide in early August.  The magazine is the brainchild of publisher and editor Kelly Magill.

Features will incorporate travel, fashion, gossip, cooking, health, home decor, and juggling work and children.

April 24, 2008 - Saltscapes magazine has partnered with the QEII Foundation to launch LIVING HEALTHY IN ATLANTIC CANADA, a bi-annual magazine with a focus on health, medicine and disease prevention.  We have some of the highest and worst statistics in the country for incidence of cancer, cardiovascular ailments, and diabetes.  We are not a healthy community,” says editor and co-publisher Jim Gourlay.  He would eventually like to turn the magazine into a quarterly.

The magazine will feature content relating to fitness, diet, weight control, mental health, chemical ingestion, air pollution, diet supplements, men's and women's health, research and technology, holistic health, new surgical procedures, and regional health statistics in comparison to the rest of Canada and other nations.  About 35,000 copies will be distributed as an insert with Saltscapes, with an additional 15,000 available at hospitals and in patient waiting rooms throughout the Atlantic Canada region.

Advertisers range from large drug companies to local opticians.
 

New lifestyle magazine has its eye on wealthy Canadians

April 24, 2008 - In June 2008, Studio Publications will debut 50,000 copies of a luxury lifestyle biannual magazine called INSPIRED THINKING.  Created for high-net-worth customers of Manitoba's Wellington West Capital, most of the initial copies will be delivered to those clients.  The publication will have expert opinions on new developments on the travel, style and culinary fronts.

The magazine's goal is to inspire readers to celebrate their success and enjoy the food, wine, cultural, and fashion scenes across Canada and abroad.

New Canadian beading magazine launches

April 22, 2008 – CanadianBeading.ca recently launched CANADIAN BEADING, a quarterly magazine that is designed to address the needs and dreams of Canadian beaders and bead suppliers, and foster the industry in Canada.  Each issue will look at beading in a different culture.  This feature will be called "World on a String," and will, in future issues, look at parts of India, China, Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Other features include an advice column, contests, and over a dozen articles on beading projects, including some for kids.

New magazine takes tongue-in-cheek look at consumerism

April 22, 2008 – The inaugural issue of SPLURGE hit the newsstands this month, touting itself as a publication that “decodes and defaces the ostentation of contemporary consumer culture: by any means necessary.”  Often profane and frequently irreverent, SPLURGE includes prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, photo essays, and visual art.  There is also a section of sardonic classified ads that are socially or politically relevant.

April 22, 2008 - World Wrestling Entertainment® recently debuted WWE KIDS, a new consumer magazine targeting 6-to-14-year-olds.  The bi-monthly launched on April 15 and was supported with a comprehensive cross-platform blitz, including a 100,000-unit pallet promotion in Wal-Mart stores.

“With content ranging from fitness and nutrition to geography to esteem building, ‘WWE Kids’ will appeal to children, their parents, and their teachers.  Young fans will get to know their favorite Superstars through activity-based art projects, fun games, interviews and trivia,” said Editorial Director Tony Romando.

The publishing frequency is three times per year.
• The VANCOUVER BUSINESS JOURNAL is for area business professionals, entrepreneurs, business managers and business owners. The focus is on news, events and B2B networking. Filomena Spitale is editor of this monthly Canwest Publishing magazine, which debuted earlier this year with a circulation of 16,000.

The title is published by the Miller-McCune Center for Research, Media and Public Policy, with support from its sister foundation, Sage Publications.
• ETHANOL RETAILER targets the 22,000 independent fuel retailers with content ranging from resources, legislation, and technical issues, to news and success stories. Publisher Robert White oversees this quarterly magazine, which was recently launched by the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council.
• SUSQUEHANNA BUSINESS LIFE chronicles business challenges, growth, and how-to knowledge for companies in central Pennsylvania. Publisher Erica Shames, who is also at the helm of sister title SUSQUEHANNA LIFE, will debut this magazine in April. Distribution is by direct mail to 15,000 business executives in the area. A second issue in October is planned.
 

Spiritual magazine plans to grow 

March 24, 2008 - PRECOGNITO offers "practical information and helpful hints that are certain to promote positive change in your life."  The focus is on "accessing the spirit world for inspiration" and offering information on products of interest.

Kim Stempien is publisher/editor of this quarterly Ozz Media magazine, which debuted with the Spring 2007 issue.  10,000 copies are distributed to retailers, with an increase to 50,000 copies planned for the Fall 2008 issue.  A bi-monthly publication schedule is expected in 2009. 
 

New airline magazine launches

March 21, 2008 – EOS CLASS is the new in-flight magazine for Eos Airlines, which travels between London and New York City, and in May, will add Newark, NJ.  Topics cover lifestyle, business, and personal interests of Eos guests that include travel, shopping, food and the arts.

The quarterly magazine is published by Elite Traveler and debuted in mid-March.  Distribution is through on-board flights, Eos lounges, and at select establishments in the destination cities.

Topics range from dining and entertainment to culture, fashion and business information. The monthly publication premiered in late August 2007.
SOLUTIONS AT HAND is a home improvement magazine targeting people in the Ocean County, NJ area. The main categories are decorating and design, home improvement and basics, kitchen and bath, outdoor living and landscaping, and home technology. This quarterly Idearc Media publication, in partnership with Meredith Publishing, debuted with the May-July 2007 issue.

John Pagliaro is at the publishing helm of this quarterly magazine, which has been acquired by Belvoir Media Group, publishers of sister title MARY ENGELBREIT'S HOME COMPANION.  An initial ratebase of 100,000 for the Spring debut issue will most likely grow as the magazine moves to a bi-monthly schedule in 2009.

BIG SKY-SMALL ACRES covers seasonal topics for new small acre landowners in Montana, who may arrive with many questions and misguided notions. A collaboration between several state agencies, the quarterly magazine debuted in December 2007. HEALTHBEAT, a health magazine from The Herald News in Fall River, MA, has been replaced with LIVING WELL. Lynne Sullivan is the editor of this new monthly publication, which focuses on diet, exercise, heart health tips, recipes, and area events and profiles.
CORDUROY is an arts and culture magazine interested in showcasing new artistic talent and reviewing classic favorites, with an additional focus on the background, influences, and nuances of each artist. The quarterly publication is currently working on Issue 3.
HEALTH FOR WOMEN provides health, wellness, food, fitness, and holistic health care information with content that “women can act on immediately to promote their own health and that of their family and aging relatives.” The quarterly magazine, set to debut in March, is from The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and is published by Wiley-Blackwell. Distribution will be by nurses to female patients at the point-of-care location as well as by subscription and controlled circulation.
VENNUE targets the arts community of Central and Southwest Virginia and seeks to “act as a bridge between the many creative centers scattered throughout the Commonwealth.” Topics range from artist profiles and area travel art destinations to the role art plays in defining communities. Editorial director Elizabeth Parsons is at the helm of this quarterly magazine, which debuted in December with the Winter edition. Distribution is through art-related businesses.
  

Regional business magazine planned

January 30, 2008 - GREATER LAFAYETTE BUSINESS JOURNAL will cover the business sectors throughout Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermillion parishes in Louisiana. Each issue focuses on a specific industry, offering profiles on those businesses and major players, news, and business-related stories.

Charles Maraist oversees this monthly publication, which will debut with the March issue. Distribution of 7,000 copies will be through area racks and by subscription.
 

New sections added to 40-year-old magazine

January 22, 2008 - ONTARIO OUT OF DOORS is adding two new editorial sections in time for the 40th anniversary issue.  The "Browser" section is focused on offering "a sense of community" by including "profiles, features and photos showing readers engaging in outdoor activities."  In addition, a travel section will debut in this February issue.

Matt Nichols is the editor-in-chief of the Rogers Media publication, which publishes 10 issues per year and has a circulation of 90,000 copies throughout the territory.
 

Regional men's lifestyle magazine premieres

January 22, 2008 - NM3 (Northern Michigan Men's Magazine) targets men in northwest Michigan.  Topics include sports, health, art, music, style, food, drinks, and entertainment.

Executive editor Brett Gourdie is at the helm of this publication, which debuted this month and will be followed by February and March/April issues before going monthly.  10,000 copies are being distributed in magazine boxes in the most heavily populated areas.

REAL SIMPLE WEDDINGS debuts this month at Crate & Barrel through January 27 and then in retail stores. Strategy articles follow three sections: planning, ceremony and reception. It is not clear what the publishing frequency of this REAL SIMPLE spin-off will be.
UPSTART will be a new sister title to INC. and FAST COMPANY this year. Targeting entrepreneurs, the Mansueto Ventures’ magazine has named Adam Platzner as publisher with Scott Medintz heading up the editorial work as product development editor. The official launch date remains undetermined for now.
HOMETOWN SPORTS SCENE is covering sports news and profiles of kids and teens through the high school years in Centre and Mifflin, PA counties. The focus is on presenting “positive stories about kids.” The monthly magazine, run by Kenny Varner, Lisa Blood, and John Espigh, debuts this week. College sports coverage permission is being sought.

January 17, 2008 - BEST HEALTH will be offering Canadian women 35-55 information on health, beauty, food and relationships.

Managing editor Bonnie Munday is set to run this bi-monthly magazine, a publication from READER'S DIGEST.  The first issue is expected on nationwide newsstands March 24 with an initial circulation of 100,000 copies.
 

Eco newsletter becomes new magazine

January 15, 2008 - The GREEN GUIDE, formerly a newsletter founded by Wendy Gordon, is now a magazine that "will offer tips for leading an eco-friendly lifestyle, home improvement advice, product news and coverage of environmental issue."  The target audience is general consumers and the focus is "simple, useful ideas, broken down into achievable steps that make going green a gradual and affordable process."

Editorial director Seth Bauer oversees this quarterly magazine.  The newsletter was purchased earlier this year by National Geographic and will debut as a magazine in March.  The ratebase of 100,000 will be achieved by subscription as well as through distribution in national book and food chains.

BUSINESS LEADER magazine, currently available in North Carolina’s Triangle and Triad areas, will publish a separate edition for Charlotte, NC starting in January. PATHWAYS highlights “policy debates about wealth and poverty in America.” Published by The Stanford Center for the Study of Poverty and Inequality, the quarterly publication launched with the Winter 2008 issue last week.

Running magazine to focus on Canadian viewpoint

January 9, 2008 - CANADIAN RUNNING will offer specific information about Canadian clubs, races, events, training guides, health tips, and running gear reviews, along with profiles of Canadian athletes. The focus will be on exploring the four seasons, especially the longer/harsher winter season.

Sam Cohen oversees this bi-monthly magazine, which is a sister title to GRIPPED. The publication is expected to launch on February 15 with a circulation of 30,000 copies. Distribution will be by subscription, newsstands, and at select races.

Don Sproul is managing editor of this Inland Custom Publishing Group title, which debuts this week and will publish eight issues per year. The first issue is to be delivered to 40,000 homes and is available by subscription.
 

Western art and culture focus of new magazine

November 19, 2007 - WESTERN ART & ARCHITECTURE "celebrates America's love affair with the Western visual arts - from the classic Western masters to contemporary trendsetters." Articles focus on presenting art from a lifestyle perspective.

Publisher Jared Swanson heads up this quarterly publication, which debuted its Premier Issue in mid-October. The magazine, from First Tracks Publishing, is a sister title to TAHOE QUARTERLY and BIG SKY JOURNAL. The goal is to distribute 25,000 copies by subscription.
