USA Weekend increases writing opportunities with special pop-up sections

September 20, 2000 - USA Weekend, the newspaper magazine inserted into 552 Sunday newspapers nationwide, is doubling the number of special pop-up sections from five to 10 next year.

The 15-year-old Gannett-owned title feels that the mass population doesn't buy the niche magazines that tend to feature these types of editorial subjects. Articles should be targeted at the 25- to 44-year-old category, with specific emphasis on exciting and enticing the younger generation to regularly read the newspaper, and the magazine.

Circulation will be increasing from 21.5 million readers to 22.4 million, another good reason to consider pitching your mass audience article ideas or explore the subject matter for future pop-ups.
