Savoy's planned launch should be watched carefully by writers November 6, 2000 - Savoy, a new lifestyle magazine for the black community, is set to debut in January. There is some doubt being thrown about because of pending mergers. The title's publisher, Vanguarde Media, is owned in part by BET Holdings II, who is in the process of being bought by media giant Viacom. But Viacom is not buying BET's stake in Vanguarde Media. The question seems to be whether this turn of events will put the kibosh on any expansion plans. Expansion, of course, might include the launch of a new title, say Savoy. According to Vanguarde's editorial director, Roy Johnson, "the deal won't derail the launch of Savoy." Wise writers will keep a close eye out for any contracts or queries pending. |
