Travelocity rivals Expedia Travels, yet neither are launched yet!

June 7, 2000 - With Travelocity due to launch in September and Expedia Travels set for an October distribution, it's just a question of what will be included in each publication. So far, media watchers are saying that editorial focus seems to be pretty much the same.

In either case, the target audience consists of people familiar with travel planning services available on the Internet.

Expedia Travels will generally "focus on travel destinations, services, suppliers, and products that are targeted to leisure and business travelers," while Travelocity is committed to providing "resources above and beyond what traditional travel agencies have to offer." More information will be available in our database.

It could be that there is so much travel information on the Internet to choose from and review, that this dynamic market can support two publications, at least at the outset. Travelocity's executive editor Chuck Thompson noted that it will be interesting to see what differences emerge over time.

The rate base of American Airlines Publishing's Travelocity will be 250,000 as compared to Ziff Davis Media's Expedia Travels with 200,000. Bon voyage!
