Guideposts to grow revenues, but will writers benefit?

June 12, 2000 - Guideposts is undergoing some extraordinary changes soon, starting with the addition of eight pages in the August issue to allow more room for editorial content. Updating the magazine's look is also in the planning stages. Then, in January, the magazine will include advertisement for the first time in 55 years.

Although the ad revenue reportedly will be used to finance the title's redesign, as well as provide the funds for acquisitions and Web ventures, it should also boost the slipping circulation, currently at 2.6 million subscribers.

Will writer's benefit from all these changes? With more room for articles, greater circulation and more money, it's hopeful that editorial content will retain it's importance over ad space, and even expand, but that remains to be seen.

85 percent of Guideposts' readers are women, with a median age of 49. The other publications from parent company Guideposts Inc. will follow Guideposts' inclusion of ads soon and include Plus: The Magazine of Positive Thinking, published ten times a year, and three bimonthlies, Angels on Earth, Guideposts for Teens, and Guideposts for Kids.
