New magazine reports on beach volleyball scene

October 24, 2006 - BEACH VOLLEYBALL MAGAZINE focuses on the beach lifestyle with coverage on professional, semi-pro, international, local, and national youth tournaments.  Additional topics include game history, player profiles, strategy tips, and nutrition and training.

Publisher Bill Paul oversees this STN Media Co. magazine, which is published six times per year from spring to early fall.  Distribution is by subscription.  Additional information was not immediately available.

Motivational magazine to launch

October 24, 2006 - J. MORGAN MAGAZINE will offer practical knowledge and advice on achieving personal goals.  Topics include health and wellness, personal growth, wealth and finance, relationships, humanities, travel, and current global issues.  The targeted readership is educated men and women 30 and over.

Morgan McKean is the founder of this bimonthly publication, which is due out on Southern California and Florida newsstands in January. Distribution is also by subscription.
 

Waiting room magazines developed

October 24, 2006 - MDMINUTE is a series of waiting room magazines that will be offered in ten distinct editions: allergies/asthma, arthritis, cancer, dermatology, diabetes, digestion/diet, general health, heart health, mental health, and women's/family health.  Common topics in all editions include news, nutrition, treatment, journal watch, technical tools, and smart self care.

Robert Barnett is editor-in-chief of these MediZine publications. MDMINUTE DIABETES and MDMINUTE HEART HEALTH are due to premier in February and MDMINUTE GENERAL HEALTH and MDMINUTE WOMEN'S/FAMILY HEALTH are slated to debut in March. Additional information was not immediately available.
 
 
Community magazine to launch next week

October 24, 2006 - ESCONDIDO MAGAZINE "highlights the community's culture through its people and establishments" and covers shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities in and near Escondido, CA.

Joyce Wells is editor of this quarterly title that will debut in area businesses and civic organizations on November 1.  A circulation of 10,000 copies is anticipated.  Sister title SAN MARCOS MAGAZINE was created by co-publishers Kirk and Kelly Effinger and launched in June.
  

VOGUE sister title being tested

October 24, 2006 - VOGUE LIVING is targeted at women "who are in the orbit of Vogue" and "reads more like a fashion magazine than a shelter title."  The scope is on both American and international home design.

Hamish Bowles is editor-in-chief of this VOGUE offspring, which is still being tested.  Reports indicate that only one edition is slated for 2007. The 500,000 ratebase includes 300,000 copies polybagged to qualified VOGUE subscribers and the rest available on newsstands.
  

New luxury lifestyle magazine for racing fans

October 16, 2006 – SPEEDWAY CLUB LUXURY LIVING is targeted at women NASCAR racing fans interested in high-end entertainment, food, decorating and recreational ideas, as well as the strides women are making in the motorsports business.

Colleen Brannan is editor-in-chief of this bi-monthly SLC Publications magazine.  20,000 copies of the premier issue were mailed to Speedway Club members and to homes and businesses in the Mecklenburg/Cabarrus County regions of North Carolina.  Distribution will continue at race venues and be available by subscription in February.
  
 
Iowa food magazine launches

October 16, 2006 - EDIBLE IOWA RIVER VALLEY is the latest edition to the collection of Edible Communities magazines.  The focus is on celebrating the food and culture of Iowa with articles about local farmers and producers who supply the marketplaces from Des Moines to the Mississippi River.

Kurt Friese is editor-in-chief of this quarterly magazine and joins 15 additional regional editions that are locally financed and published.  Still in the planning stages are EDIBLE ATLANTA that will debut in November and EDIBLE MEMPHIS, which is planned for April 2007.
    
Hybrid book/magazine tested

October 16, 2006 - BIG BLACK BOOK covers the luxury men's market and features style tips, social etiquette how-tos, insights into luxury brands, and fashion coverage.

The hybrid book/magazine format is being tested by Hearst and debuted on October 2 with a distribution of 100,000 copies.  The title, sister to ESQUIRE, may move to bi-yearly or even quarterly publication in the future.

New magazine about connectivity

October 16, 2006 - &. (yes that is the actual name) magazine features a specific world-view topic with each issue.  The debut Autumn issue reported on the harmony between men and women and will be followed with coverage about creativity, fashion, and travel.

The quarterly magazine is published by MaXposure Media Group and distributes 50,000 copies in the U.S. An additional 10,000 copies reach markets in Dubai, Mumbai and Amsterdam.  The website is http://www.andpersandmag.com.
  

Estate home captured in a magazine

October 16, 2006 - WINTERTHUR MAGAZINE is all about the upcoming exhibitions, seasonal wonders, art collections, preservation efforts, and behind-the-scenes looks at Henry Francis du Pont's Winterthur family estate.

Susan Weissman oversees the editorial direction of this quarterly magazine, which is published by Pace Communications and will debut in November. 50,000 copies will be distributed to affluent households.
  

New regional magazine about technology

October 16, 2006 - X-OLOGY will "showcase the many surprising and resonant technology-related stories, ideas and individuals that are shaping Southeast Michigan."  Content is both educational and entertaining and each issue will focus on a specific technology industry.

Jane Racey Gleeson is the editor of this quarterly magazine from Automation Alley, in partnership with Renaissance Media.  The debut issue is due out in January and a distribution of 20,000 copies to Detroit-area businesses, schools, and bookstores is expected.
  

VIBE supplements planned

October 16, 2006 - VMIX and PRODIGY are two new VIBE supplements planned for 2007.

VMIX will concentrate on celebrity gossip and photos and be polybagged with 450,000 copies of the January issue of VIBE. PRODIGY, a working title, is a women's parenting title that will debut with the May or June issue and be sent to 300,000 subscribers of VIBE VIXEN.  Additional information was not immediately available.
  

NYC regional magazine to launch

October 9, 2006 - PERPETUAL TOXINS, an online magazine covering the arts and entertainment scene for Long Island and the NYC area, is going to print. Primary coverage is about local bands, art galleries, film festivals, and museums.

Tiffany Razzano is editor of this monthly publication due to debut on November 15.  The initial print run will be 1,000 copies and distributed to area stores and by subscription.  The website is http://www.perpetualtoxins.com.
  

New shelter magazine planned

October 9, 2006 - COTTAGES AND BUNGALOWS will focus on historical homes built from the 1890s to the 1950s.  Topics include how-to restoration, detailed information on period kitchens and baths, arts and crafts, and home accessories.

Merrie Destefano is editor of this Action Pursuit Group magazine, publisher of sister titles VICTORIAN HOMES and ROMANTIC HOMES.  Additional information was not immediately available.
  

Canadian luxury magazine to launch

October 9, 2006 - LUXE is a new high end magazine covering Canadian lifestyle and travel.

Beth McBlain is editor-in-chief of this monthly Metamedia Capital Corp. publication. 65,000 copies will be distributed through the National Post and debut on October 26.

New magazine for busy women

October 9, 2006 - SIMPLY SMART is "the insider’s guide to the best in dining, shopping, travel and everyday fun."  Additional topics include fashion, finances, health and fitness, and profiles of inspirational women.  The target audience is active women from 33- to 50-years-old looking for money-saving tips and information.

Moira Harris is editor of this quarterly magazine from Entertainment Publishing, which debuted with its Winter 2006 Holiday issue on October 1.  The title's circulation is 890,000 copies and will increase publication frequency to bi-monthly with the September/October 2007 issue.
  

New magazine about commercial construction

October 6, 2006 - ARCHITECT will appeal to a community of designers and cover "technological change, social and environmental sustainability, business, growth, practice management, and design" as related to the commercial construction industry.

Ned Cramer is editor-in-chief of the Hanley Wood title, which is due to premier this month.  Additional information was not immediately available.

 Afghan culture magazine launches

October 6, 2006 - ZEBA, the Farsi word for beautiful, is about Afghan culture in the U.S. and is designed to appeal to both the young and old alike.  Topics include music, travel, leisure, design, fashion, sports, and profiles, but shies away from politics or religion.

Samira Feda is editor-in-chief of this new publication, which debuted with the June issue.  The magazine is bilingual: half published in English and half in Dari, an Afghan dialect of Farsi. Distribution is by subscription and the website is http://www.zebamagazine.com.
 

New Christian magazine launches

October 6, 2006 - SALVO is a Christian magazine aimed at young people.  Content is designed to "raise questions about where we're headed as a society."

The quarterly title, published by the Fellowship of St. James in Chicago, debuted with its Autumn 2006 science-focused issue. The second issue will cover sexual healing.  The publication is under the direction of editor Bobby Maddex and is distributed by subscription.  The website is http://www.salvomag.com.
  

New magazine for preschoolers

October 6, 2006 - HIGHLIGHTS HIGH FIVE helps parents encourage and nurture their young child's development.  Content for 2- to 6-year-olds includes read-aloud stories, stories that introduce the Spanish language, simple nonfiction articles, puzzles, crafts, cooking, and poems.

The monthly magazine will premiere in November and is published by Highlights for Children.
  

Regional magazine planned for early spring

October 6, 2006 - CHARLOTTESVILLE HOUSE & HOME is for central Virginia homeowners seeking home and garden design trend information as well as regional resources for home projects.

The launch is set for March 2007 and ten issues per year are planned.  The publisher Target Media will distribute 15,000 copies to area newsstands and home and garden retail stores.
   

New health magazine to launch

October 6, 2006 - WILD OATS MAGAZINE will cover diet and exercise, wellness, nutrition, organic foods, and overall health improvement.

Jerry Shazer is editor of this bi-monthly publication, which is slated to debut in January 2007.  The title is a partnership between Active Interest Media and Wild Oats Markets.  100,000 copies will be distributed at Wild Oats stores nationwide.
