Teen People named best new consumer magazine October 9, 2000 - Teen People, a two-year-old Time Inc. publication, was named best new consumer magazine by Temple University, which annually presents their Acres of Diamonds Award. (October 30) B.Smith Style, a lifestyle publication owned by American Express Publishing, but managed by Time Inc., is on its last legs and may suspend publication soon. (October 25) Essence may soon be launching a teen version and a separate issue for more mature readers. Stay tuned. (October 25) Popular Science and Field and Stream are two of the 20 titles published under the Times Mirror Magazines umbrella, now owned by Time, Inc. No immediate changes to any of the magazines' content or management is expected. (October 25) Yahoo! Internet Life has a new executive editor, David Thomas, and a new technology editor, Don Willmott. (October 25) For Him Magazine (FHM) will almost double its ratebase from 400,000 starting in the new year. The title is now published monthly. (October 25) Child Magazine has a new editor-in-chief, Miriam Arond, with Polly Chevalier handling the managing editor slot. (October 25) Smart Business for the New Economy has a new editor-in-chief, Wendy Taylor, following the reassignment of Geoffrey Precourt within Ziff Davis Media. (October 23) U.S. News & World Report has a new managing editor, Brian Kelly, who will be responsible for the Business & Technology and News You Can Use sections. (October 23) Inside New York is a new Primedia title scheduled to launch in March 2000, targeting upscale New York City visitors. Distribution will most likely be at concierge desks of top hotels. (October 23) Newsweek announced a new editor of Newsweek International, Fareed Zakaria. Mr. Zakaria will oversee the magazine's oversees editions, including the English-language editions distributed in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. (October 18) Manhattan Style will launch November 15 and be published monthly starting sometime in the spring. (October 18) Gotham Is a new title from publisher Jason Binn, who also publishes Hamptons magazine and Miami's Ocean Drive. (October 18) Medical Design News has a new editor-in-chief, John R. Gyorki. (October 18) Glamour will appear in both a U.K. and a German edition sometime in 2001 noted publisher Conde Nast. (October 18) The Washington Monthly has a new editor, Paul D. Glastris, following the retirement of founder Charles Peters. (October 18) Games Business and Total Games have both ceased publication according to publisher Imagine Media. (October 18) Exchange & Outlook will be published monthly starting with the February 2001 issue. The year-old title, published by Fawcette Technical Publications in Dallas, has a circulation of 40,000 and reports technical, hands-on solutions for Exchange administrators and developers. (October 18) Elle has a new editorial line-up, including Laurie Abraham as executive editor, Rachael Combe as managing editor, Alexandra Siegel Postman as senior features editor and Alyssa Giacobbe as articles editor. Roberta Myers is still editor-in-chief. (October 18) Penton Media, Inc. is splitting into four operating divisions: Penton Technology Media, Penton Industry Media, Penton Retail Media and Penton Lifestyle Media. (October 18) Autozine Magazine, an ES Publishing quarterly, will showcase luxury cars and SUV's. Content will include features, news and articles about how these cars were built. Not to be confused with Mark Wan's 75 issues from September 1997 - July 2000 or the Netherlands website www.autozine.nl. (October 18) Elle Canada, an Elle spin-off, is set to launch in spring 2001 with 130,000 paid copies for the year. Content will be completely local according to publisher Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, who is partnering with a Canadian publisher. Currently, between 30,000 and 40,000 Canadians read the U.S. version. (October 11) National Geographic is now available in Dutch, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, boosting the number of editions published to 16. (October 11) O, The Oprah Magazine will have a ratebase of 1.3 million in January 2001, up from 500,000 at the title's launch in April 2000. Go O! (October 11) iHousing, a new quarterly title for building professionals, is scheduled to launch in January, contrary to an initial report of a September 2000 debut. The publisher is Hanley-Wood. (October 11) Construction Job Hotsheet has been renamed to Industrial Tradesman by publisher Construction Craft Services, Inc. The November relaunch of this monthly heavy construction industry title includes weekly updates of national employment news and feature articles. (October 11) TV Guide has a new managing editor, Jill Rachlin Marbaix, and a new executive editor, Steve Sonsky. Both are internal promotions. (October 11) Individual Investor has a new editor, David Bumke, formerly the title's executive editor. The publication's Web site has a new editor as well, Luciano Siracusano. (October 11) Kagan Euromedia and Asia Cable & Satellite World have been bought by Primedia in its acquisition of Kagan World Media. The magazines are based in London and Hong Kong. (Oct 10) Journal of Light Construction, formerly published by Builderburg Group, is now owned by VS&A-owned Hanley-Wood, which also publishes Tools Of The Trade, another former Builderburg title. (October 9) CRN has named a new editor-in-chief, Kelley Damore, formerly the title's senior executive editor. (October 9) Talk has hired a new senior editor, Elizabeth Lesley Stevens, formerly with Brill's Content. Ms. Stevens will help on comprehensive business overview stories.
