New pub for CFOs planned

November 29, 2005 - Corporate finance officers will have a new publication targeting their information needs next year. FINANCIAL WEEK will cover "news of financing techniques, risk management, benefits finance, corporate governance, investment management, accounting, information technology, real estate, and compliance and reporting."

Mike Clowes has been named editorial director of this Crain Communications title. A pilot issue is planned for June 5, 2006 with a circulation of 55,000 copies. The frequency will increase to bimonthly in September 2006 and to a weekly schedule in 2007.
 

Spinoff of GOLF MAGAZINE planned

November 29, 2005 - GOLF MAGAZINE LIVING will be a luxury lifestyle spinoff of GOLF MAGAZINE starting next year. Content includes high-end golf communities, furnishings, electronics and automobiles.

The title, from Time4 Media, is set to be delivered to 150,000 affluent subscribers of several Time Inc. magazines. Two issues are planned for 2006: spring and fall.
 

New mag launches in St. Paul

November 29, 2005 - SAINT PAUL ILLUSTRATED is a high-end magazine covering fine arts, culture, dining, shopping, and fashion, as well as local issues in the metro area and surrounding suburbs.

Kate Seitz is editor of the monthly title published by Metropolitan Media Group. The November/December issue premiered recently at bookstores and was mailed to affluent residents.
 

The world of poker chronicled

November 25, 2005 - ALL IN is a new magazine dedicated to poker.  Articles include accounts of high-stake games, instruction, and tips from champions.

Bhu Srinivasan is editor of the bimonthly title with a circulation of 150,000 planned by February.  The website is http://www.allinmagazine.com.
 

New mag for and by teenagers

November 25, 2005 - TRUE (Teens Reaching for a Unified Era) aims to publish news and culture articles from the perspective of teenagers.  Hannah Janoowalla is editor of the quarterly title and attends Passaic High School in New Jersey where the title is headquartered.

The next issue is due out in January. Initial circulation was 1,000 copies with the ultimate goal of producing 40,000 copies for distribution to high schools throughout New Jersey.
 

Arts and entertainment mag started

November 25, 2005 - DARIA! is "committed to artistic overviews of films in production or recently released, as well as changes in the global entertainment market, particularly as they affect independent productions."  Articles are chiefly based on interviews with writers, producers, directors and adjunct professionals.

Daria Trifu is editor of the biannual title.  The next issue will be published in time for the Cannes Film Festival in May 2006.
 

Pro-Israel student pub launches

November 25, 2005 - THE COLLEGE ZIONIST has launched with its Winter issue, giving students an opportunity to exchange ideas, report on issues, share personal experiences, and express views as related to Israel.

Julie Sager oversees this Zionist Organization of America publication. Distribution is to over 100 campuses nationwide. The website is http://www.thecollegezionist.org.
 

New diet and fitness mag launches

November 25, 2005 - SHE KNOWS DIET & FITNESS has launched, filling its pages with advice, information, and tips on how to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle. Topics include diet, food, nutrition, recipes, fitness, health and wellness, beauty, and fashion.

The bimonthly title is published by Coincide Media, LLC. Sister titles include COOKING SMART and LOW CARB ENERGY.
 

New "Martha" shelter mag planned

November 23, 2005 - 30-something-year-olds looking to buy their first home will have a new shelter magazine in 2006: BLUEPRINT. "Content "pertains to purchase and ownership" and will also cover lifestyle, home renovation, paint selection, furnishing tips and even some fashion.

The title, from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, is planned to debut in May 2006 with a circulation of approximately 200,000.
 

New pub for IP Multimedia Subsystems

November 22, 2005 - IMS MAGAZINE, focusing on wireless and wireline telecom market opportunities for IP Multimedia Subsystem based architectures, is set to debut in February 2006. Article content will include important news and events, case studies, and the latest services.

Editorial inquires should be directed to Greg Galitzine, editorial director. The bimonthly title is a product of Today Technology Marketing Corp. Ratebase information was not immediately available.

Jewish magazine launches

November 22, 2005 - GUILT & PLEASURE entered the market last week with "content ranging from long-form essays and memoirs to fiction, comics, photography and archival material." The intent of the magazine is to inform, entertain, and bring issues to light for further discussion. The debut issue theme is "home and away, the second is "fights and battles," and the third is "magic."

Mireille Silcoff is editor-in-chief of this quarterly title published by Reboot. Distribution is on newsstands across North America.
 

Whirly birds take flight in new pub

November 22, 2005 - Remote controlled helicopters are the subject of RC HELI, a newly launched magazine for aficionados. Content covers new technology and products, accessories, tips on maintenance, and practical solutions to challenges.

Mike Velez oversees this bimonthly title from Think Omnimedia. October/November 2005 was the premier issue. Distribution is through subscription. The website is http://www.rchelimag.com.
 

New mag for the urban scene

November 22, 2005 - URBANOLOGY covers "new urban lifestyle and entertainment." The target audience is between 16 and 34-years-old. Content includes news, politics, fashion, sports, technology, business, music, film, television, and the arts and life.

Priya Ramanujam is editor-in-chief of this bimonthly Canadian-based publication. The magazine launched in April and is distributed throughout Canada and many parts of the U.S. The readership is 180,000.
 

Rite of passage mag to launch

November 22, 2005 - Young Hispanic women preparing for their quinceañera, the traditional coming-of-age celebration, will soon have a magazine devoted to the subject. QUINCE GIRL is putting together its premier March 2006 issue with coverage on the latest styles and fashion, real life stories, articles on tradition, timelines for party planning, and lists of products and services.

Amber Matassa oversees the editorial team at Quince Media LLC. Two issues are planned for 2007. Distribution will be on newsstands in major Hispanic markets nationwide with a ratebase of 300,000.
 

Natural foods at center of regional pub

November 18, 2005 - RADISH, which debuts with its November/December 2005 issue, covers improved health through natural foods, products and services throughout western Illinois and eastern Iowa. Additional information will include diet, cooking, health and fitness.

Housing on Martha's Vineyard addressed

November 18, 2005 - FRAMEWORK is positioning itself to be the voice for affordable housing on Martha's Vineyard. The publication will bring together the varied affordable housing agencies and groups already working on the issue. Content includes articles on principle, history and perspective, as well as controversy, concepts, problems, and profiles.

Nils Kildegaard is editor of the title, with plans to publish three times per year: fall, winter, and spring. Distribution will be in local public venues with an initial print run of 3,500 copies.

November 17, 2005 - RADIANT will target females ages 18-34 and include features on lifestyle issues such as identity, purpose and relationships, as well as decorating, health, fashion and spiritual topics.

November 17, 2005 - ALTAR MAGAZINE recently launched to provide a forum for critical thought, coalition building, artistic creativity and activism. Content falls into three general categories: articles, interviews and reviews.

Mandy Van Deven is editor of this independent quarterly title with a circulation of 6,000. The magazine is based in Brooklyn, New York.
 

Snowshoe site lays tracks in print

November 15, 2005 - SNOWSHOE MAGAZINE, previously available only on the Internet, is readying itself for print publication.  Articles will include international destinations, history, health, profiles and tips.  Content is "entertaining, motivating, and informative all at once."

Alford Publishing, Inc. will debut two issues this season, December 2005 and January 2006, with distribution throughout North America.  Four issues are planned for the 2006/2007 winter season.  Overseeing the effort is publisher Ryan Alford and managing editor Marcus Wilkins.  The website is http://www.snowshoemag.com.
 

NYT enters sports mag market

November 14, 2005 - PLAY is the name of a new sports magazine from The New York Times. The target audience is not only serious fans, but those who prefer to play sports rather than watch them. Content will celebrate, instruct and get behind the scenes "to show how sports are really played today." An emphasis on editorial writing is being promised.

Mark Bryant is editor of this quarterly title set to debut on February 5, 2006. The other three issues will be published the following September, October and November. Distribution will be in all newspaper editions, with a reported 150,000 copies nationally distributed outside of New York.
 

Chattanooga culture chronicled

November 14, 2005 - IN THE CITY is a new magazine covering the arts, culture and entertainment in Chattanooga, Tenn. Content features reviews and profiles of people and places of interest, including artists, restaurants, writers, and art programs.

Darah Burkett is editor of this quarterly title. 19,000 copies were printed for the debut Winter 2006 issue, with 7,000 copies mailed directly to residents. Additional distribution is at local retail shops in downtown Chattanooga.
 

Student magazine at UNC returns

November 11, 2005 - THE BLACK INK, the official publication of the Black Student Movement at the University of North Carolina, is being published again after a year's absence.  Content is relevant to the entire student body and articles will be more controversial, tackle tougher issues, and also address general student concerns

Adjoa Adofo is editor-in-chief and October 2005 is the relaunch issue.
 

Seafood captured in new mag

November 11, 2005 - WILD CATCH is a business-to-business publication that covers the entire wild seafood supply chain, "From Net to Market."  The target audience is the fisheries and retail and food service industries. Content includes species and industry education, marketing insights, distribution logistics, value-adding strategies, and wild seafood processing and technology.

Doug Sipes is editor of this title which will publish bi-monthly in 2006. The inaugural Fall issue is now available and the circulation is 8,000 copies.

November 9, 2005 - Mainstream art takes center stage in AMERICAN ART COLLECTOR, written for collectors, galleries, and painters. Content includes gallery showings, price comparisons, auction and market information, and artist profiles.

T:HOLIDAY newest newspaper insert mag

November 9, 2005 - THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE has added T:HOLIDAY to its T:STYLE magazine line up. The target audience is people interested in stylish holiday entertaining. Content includes one-of-a-kind gifts, tips on spending holiday leisure time, finding luxurious travel destinations, and holiday season entertaining.

The debut issue of this annual publication is December 4. Its sister publication, T:BEAUTY recently launched as an annual. Stefano Tonchi is editor for THE NEW YORK TIMES STYLE MAGAZINE.

November 7, 2005 - MANATEE recently launched in Southwest Florida's Manatee County. The focus is on capturing the "true spirit of the many special people, places, businesses and activities" of the area.

Diane Tennant is editor of this quarterly title from the Herald-Tribune, publisher of sister title CHARLOTTE LIFE. Distribution of 12,000 copies is by subscription and at area hotels.
 

Editorial content shifts at two fitness mags

November 7, 2005 - FITNESS is changing its editorial content to "provide a wider range of exercise levels" as well as enhanced coverage of nutrition, psychology, beauty, and workout-friendly fashion products.

At SHAPE, longer articles will include more tips and there will be a higher percentage of first-person makeovers and representation of "real" women, although celebrities are more likely to be chosen for their overall fitness.
 

South Florida pub debuts

November 4, 2005 - SIX DEGREES is a new magazine covering fashion and entertainment in the Florida counties of Dade, Broward and West Palm Beach.  The target audience is trendsetting men and women from 21- to 45-years-old. Content also includes music, beauty and shopping.

Jason Jeffers is editor of this monthly title.  Circulation is 30,000 copies to 1,400 controlled distribution locations.
 

Robots take center stage in new mag

November 4, 2005 - Robot enthusiasts now have a new magazine called ROBOT. The title is geared for both entry level people and technical professionals. Topics include interesting stories and news, the latest robot toys, how-to projects, competitions, the latest advances in artificial intelligence, and the newest in consumer, industrial, and military technology.

Tom Atwood is editor-in-chief of this quarterly title from Maplegate Media Group, publisher of sister titles FLY RC and RC DRIVER. The debut Winter 2006 issue appeared on newsstands November 1 and is also distributed by subscription.
 

Regional pub for gays launches

November 4, 2005 - G3 covers the gay and lesbian scene in Greater Louisville (Kentucky). Features spotlight important personalities, gay-friendly locations, provocative editorials, and gay news. Content is "humble, simple and sweet" rather than risqué.

Tom Trudgeon is editor-in-chief of this monthly title, which distributes 10,000 copies to 350 outlets. The debut issue premiered Thursday, November 3.

Campus mag addresses diversity

November 1, 2005 - SWIRL MAGAZINE is launching this month on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.  The focus is to "encourage and strengthen interaction among groups of students who normally would not cross paths."

The debut issue is scheduled to appear in the Brady Commons and Memorial Union sometime this month and is currently backed by the Missouri Students Association. Journalisms students Terrence Chappell, Shantell Jamison and Taryn Williams are spearheading the effort.
 

Honda and Acura dealers target of new pub

November 1, 2005 - BLUE SKY recently launched to help Honda and Acura dealers "improve their business processes and offer best practices."  Content includes peer insight, advice, and success for process change revolving around three themes: customer experience, business efficiency, and market development.

The quarterly title is a collaboration between American Honda and Tendo Communications.  The debut issue was showcased at the 2005 Honda Dealer Show.
