Hollywood magazine for the community

May 25, 2007 - HOLLYWOOD COVERED is all about the entertainment industry and features stories about area writers, filmmakers, activists, musicians, actors, and those behind-the-scenes.  Additional coverage is given to innovations in technology.

Publisher Pam Gross oversees this monthly magazine, which is published by Brentwood Media Group.  The title debuted in September 2006 and distributes 50,000 copies throughout the Hollywood and Los Angeles area.
 

New business magazine for African Americans

May 25, 2007 - HARLEM BUSINESS NEWS "is dedicated to chronicling Harlem-based businesses and African American owned businesses in general."  Topics include profiles of entrepreneurs, diversity in corporate America, financial information, partnership ideas, and new business and job listings.

May 25, 2007 - THE GROOVE's tagline is "More Music, More Peace."  Topics include artist features, reviews, and news with a focus on getting "a clear picture of what’s happening in the world of Hip Hop, R&B and World Music."

Elite business executives target of new magazine

May 23, 2007 - CORPORATE LEADER's "content will be tailored to the unique needs of America’s highest-level executives."  That includes "the working wealthy" such as CEOs, CFOs, and board members at public companies as well as the top 2,000 private US companies.

Published by Doubledown Media, the launch date is set for October with a distribution of 100,000 copies.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Regional Florida magazine launches

May 23, 2007 - PORT ST. LUCIE MAGAZINE "highlights the city's many communities and recreational opportunities while also providing extensive social coverage."  Additional topics include gardening and architecture.

Sue Ellen Sanders is editor of this INDIAN RIVER sister title, which will debut on June 1.  10,000 copies are to be distributed to high-income households, area hotels, and retain stores.  The publishing frequency was not immediately available.

New magazine for the youngest Lutherans

May 23, 2007 - THE LITTLE LUTHERAN targets children six and under "to learn about God's love from them."  Content includes stories, prayers, puzzles, activities and coverage of rituals.

Fashion print magazine to use online material

May 23, 2007 - NEW YORK LOOK is a new fashion magazine that will highlight the trends of the season.  Photographic content will be gathered from NEW YORK magazine's online content by existing staff and freelancers, but will contain only a small amount of writing.

The semiannual publication, due to debut in November, is overseen by NEW YORK editor-in-chief Adam Moss. Distribution "will be a combination of controlled circulation and selective newsstand sales."
 

Regional real estate and business news magazine to debut

May 21, 2007 - NEW JERSEY & COMPANY is for executives interested in commercial and residential real estate news, law, finance and economic development, and coverage of pertinent issues for the north and central areas of New Jersey.

The B2B magazine, published by ScheinMedia, will debut in September and be published nine times per year.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Regional gardening magazine has launched

May 21, 2007 - MASTER GARDENER is for Washington state residents looking for science-based articles about horticulture research, how-to articles, local gardening personality profiles, and trends in plants, pest control and equipment.

Jim Black is managing editor of this quarterly magazine, a cooperative venture between Good Fruit Grower Publishing and the WSU Master Gardener program. The current Spring 2007 issue is the second publication and is available by subscription.
 

New York-based magazine to target Jewish demographic

May 21, 2007 - JEWISH LIVING proclaims the tagline: "Celebrating Jewish Home, Jewish Family and Jewish Cultural Life."  The lifestyle magazine targets Jewish women in North America.

Daniel Zimerman is the founder of this bi-monthly magazine, which is due to debut on November 8.  Additional information was not immediately available.

Update on Ty Pennington magazine

May 21, 2007 - TY PENNINGTON AT HOME is all about "developing a personal style to managing clutter to making a big impact with small design touches."  Originally reported as TY PENNINGTON STYLE, the new magazine debuted on national newsstands May 15.  Topics cover home and office style, Pennington's inspiration, guidelines, and before-and-after views in different styles.

Olivia Monjo is editor-in-chief and Karen Walden is editor of this Hachette Filipacchi Media US magazine.  The 2007 test issue is planned as a quarterly in 2008, with an initial distribution of 650,000 copies.
 

WOMAN'S DAY reorganized

May 14, 2007 - Starting with the July 10 issue, WOMAN'S DAY will "be organized around health and three other topics: living well, tips and food."

Jane Chesnutt is editor-in-chief of this Hachette Filipacchi Media magazine, which publishes 17 issues per year.
 

New mixed martial arts magazine launched

May 14, 2007 - GLADIATOR is about "mixed martial arts, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, submission grappling, and the extreme athlete lifestyle."  Topics include event and fighter coverage, profiles of stars, and positive articles about improving technique and lifestyle.

Todd Hester is editor of this new magazine, which debuted with Issue #1 on May 1. The publication is distributed in bookstores and on newsstands in 20 countries. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Japanese anime magazine by American writers

May 14, 2007 - OTAKU USA is a new comprehensive guide to Japanese pop culture.  Topics range from manga and anime to computer games and J-Pop and is written from an American point of view.

Patrick Macias is editor of this bi-monthly magazine from Sovereign Media.  Distribution of the June launch issue will be 125,000 copies in bookstores nationwide.
 

New magazine to chronicle bicycling as transportation

May 11, 2007- THE PRACTICAL PEDAL "focuses on bicycles as a form of enjoyable transportation, rather than just sport and recreation."  Target readers ride their bikes everywhere and are interested in lifestyle news and products.

Wiley Davis is the contact at this quarterly journal, which is set to debut sometime this summer.  10,000 copies will be distributed at retailers and by subscription.
 

Adventure travel journalism magazine launches

May 11, 2007 - OVERLAND JOURNAL is "dedicated to expedition travel and exploration in North America and around the world." The vehicle-centered travel magazine covers expedition vehicles, travel stories, equipment reviews, and conservation news.

Jonathan Hanson is executive editor of this magazine, which will publish five issues per year. The debut Spring issue ships on May 14 and is distributed by subscription.

Regional dance magazine debuts

May 11, 2007 - DANCE SAN DIEGO covers all dancers, from belly dance, ballroom and ballet, to swing, Irish Ceili and hip hop.  The focus of the magazine is to "inform dancers about artistic principles in everyday business and to encourage interaction among dancers in every genre of dance in San Diego County."

Melanie Dellas is editor-in-chief of this bi-monthly publication, which debuts with the May/June issue.  A distribution of approximately 8,500 copies targets students, troupes, retailers, studios/schools, instructors and educational dance departments.
 

NY newspaper adds magazine to distribution

May 7, 2007 - FOCUS MAGAZINE is about helping, challenging and informing African American readers in New York City who want to "live a better, more informed life."  Each issue features a unifying topic, such as healthy living, real estate, arts and entertainment, education, travel, and finance and wealth.

Elinor R. Tatum is editor and publisher of this Amsterdam News publication, which is distributed with the newspaper and debuted on April 19.  The second issue is slated for an early June release.
 

Myrtle Beach magazine expands content

May 7, 2007- MYRTLE BEACH GOLF HOLIDAY PLANNING GUIDE is now the MYRTLE BEACH GOLF HOLIDAY MAGAZINE, featuring expanded coverage on golf tips, golf etiquette, area history, local events and tournaments, and dining and entertainment guides.

The annual publication is distributed to 250,000 golfers worldwide and is published by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.
 

New regional magazine about being green

May 7, 2007 - GREENABILITY is a lifestyle magazine for Kansas City residents interested in learning about living better eco-friendly lives, both at home and at work, as well as in transit.

Canadian art magazine planned

New magazine for cancer survivors

May 4, 2007 - HEAL is aimed at cancer survivors and "connects them with cutting-edge news about their health and finances, as well as in-depth, evidence-based features to improve their welfare.  Topics cover mind, body and spirit.

The quarterly magazine is published by CURE Media Group, a division of Medical Media Holdings, which also publishes CURE.  The debut Spring issue became available on newsstands and by subscription this month, and has a distribution of 250,000 copies.
 

New editorial focus at HOME

May 4, 2007 - HOME is addressing the growing remodeling market by refocusing editorial content on home makeovers. The magazine's new tagline is "Practical and Stylish Makeovers" and includes new sections such as "Your Home," "Mini Makeover," and "Make It Green."

New magazine targets executives around the globe

May 3, 2007 - THE JOURNAL OF LIFE SCIENCES aims to "help leaders and decision makers stay abreast of the strategies necessary to help research-intensive corporations become profitable concerns.  Topics range from business and science to politics and society.

Bill Patrick is editor-in-chief of this publication, which debuted with the May issue.  It is a joint venture between the California Healthcare Institute and Burrill Life Sciences Media Group. Four additional monthly issues are set for 2007 starting in September and a bi-monthly schedule is planned thereafter. The initial circulation, by subscription, is 20,000.
 

Magazine for moms in Des Moines, IA

May 3, 2007 - DES MOINES MOMS is for area women "looking for parenting ideas, fun activities for kids and thoughtful discussion by moms."

May 3, 2007 - JOLIET MAGAZINE offers profiles on outstanding citizens and entrepreneurs in and near Joliet, IL, as well as entertainment guides, tips on healthy living, and covers neighborhood community concerns.  Movie and book reviews, along with celebrity interviews, will be added in the future.  The idea is to involve area youths and give them positive opportunities to learn the publishing business and showcase their talent.

Publisher Curt Smith oversees this quarterly magazine from The CS Group, publishers of sister title NALU UNDERGROUND. 50,000 copies are distributed at newsstands, bookstores, airports, retailers and resorts.

New Canadian magazine highlights climate change

May 2, 2007 - CHECKERSPOT, named for a butterfly that is changing locales according to global warming, seeks to "empower readers to take action in their own lives by exploring lifestyle choices, including emerging ideas on food, shelter and transit options." Additional coverage is given to consumer product reviews, developments in science, and innovations for the future.

Jodi DiMenna is editor of this biannual Canadian Wildlife Federation magazine. The debut Spring issue launched last week and the second Fall issue is expected in November. Distribution of 100,000 copies is by subscription, trade shows, and as an insert in select copies of the Globe and Mail and the National Post.

Modern Luxury expands into Hawaiian market

May 2, 2007 - MODERN LUXURY HAWAII "highlights modern Hawaiian lifestyle with an affluent flair."  Topics include upscale travel, fashion, dining, and entertainment in the Hawaiian Islands.

Margie Jacinto is editor-in-chief of this bilingual quarterly magazine, offering both English and Japanese copy in every issue.  Distribution is to affluent households, VIPs, luxury hotels, book stores and high-class events.  Publisher Modern Luxury offers sister titles in 11 other areas, including Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.
  

Romantic living magazine resuscitated

May 2, 2007 - VICTORIA, a former Hearst publication that appeared in 1987 and folded in 2003, is coming back with its signature coverage of gracious living and good manners in daily life.  Topics include home, garden, fashion, beauty, food, collectibles, and profiles.

Hoffman Media is in a joint venture with Hearst, planning a bi-monthly magazine due to debut in October.  Distribution is by newsstand, with hopes of a 250,000 copy circulation in the first quarter of 2008.
 

Regional parenting magazine to launch

May 2, 2007 - PIONEER PARENT targets families in the western Massachusetts counties of Hampden and Hampshire.  The focus is on "the stages of a child's life, from birth through college" and includes information about area destinations, attractions, tips from local educations, and community and seasonal events.

Executive editor Gregory Saulmon oversees this MassPublishing Co. magazine, which is due to debut in May with a distribution of 20,000 copies to area homes and businesses.  The publication's frequency was not immediately available.
 

New magazine about performance motorcycle touring

May 2, 2007 - AMERICAN BAGGER is all about the "hottest new products, in depth tech, custom Baggers, as well as the shows and personality coverage."  The focus in on technology, engine modifications, and customizing American bikes for touring performance.
