Glamour names new editor May 23, 2001 - Glamour, published by Condé Nast Publications, has named a new editor, Cindi Leive, formerly the editor-in-chief at Self. Ms. Leive replaces Bonnie Fuller, whose three-year-contract expires soon. Golf & The Good Life is a new supplement May 23, 2001 - BusinesWeek and Golf Digest are launching a 40-page editorial supplement series called Golf & The Good Life, to debut in the November 19th issue of both publications. Smooth newest title to enter music industry market space May 23, 2001 - Combining coverage on urban music, celebrity news, and entertainment trends, Smooth is the newest title on the block. Published by Star Media, Inc., the bimonthly magazine is due to launch August 7. Forbes ASAP and Forbes.com: Best of the Web will merge and relaunch May 21, 2001 - Forbes ASAP will cease publication as a bimonthly supplement to Forbes and merge with five-times-a-year Forbes.com: Best of the Web. The result is a bimonthly standalone title, Forbes Special Technology Issue: ASAP/Best of the Web, to launch September 11. Content will still be developed at the respective offices (Silicon Valley for ASAP and New York for Best of the Web). Useful news to transform content at major U.S. newsweekly May 21, 2001 - U.S. News and World Report will continue to be a newsweekly, although plans are in place to scale back foreign news coverage and concentrate on at-home "news you can use," such as college rankings and top hospitals. Game writers can grab advanced copy of the Official Xbox Magazine at the E3 show May 16, 2001 - Xbox, the anticipated new Microsoft game console, will premier its first "issue" of Official Xbox Magazine as a special E3 Collector's Issue on May 17 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. The multilingual issue will be available in limited quantity only. "This special issue is the world's first look at what Official Xbox Magazine will be, both in style and content," noted Karen Quilantang, publisher of the U.S. edition. Digital Imaging relaunches as merged title May 16, 2001 - Digital Imaging and Micro Publishing News have merged, resulting in the June/July issue debut of the "new" Digital Imaging magazine. Editorial content will expand to offer comprehensive coverage of the digital workflow technology, from creative concept to production output. digitalFOTO ceases publication May 9, 2001 - digitalFOTO's subscribers will be folded into PCPhoto magazine, following the acquisition of the Imagine Media title's subscriber list by Werner Publishing Corp. Magazines will cost more to mail May 9, 2001 - A 2.6 percent increase in periodical mailing rates with the United States Postal Service goes into effect July 1. The Magazine Publishers of America estimates that the hike will add $50 million in cost to magazine publishers this year. The increase is substantially lower than the original 25 percent hike proposed early this year. Magazine publishers were hit with a 9.9 percent increase in mailing rates last January.
