New Time Inc title heads for Wal-Mart

March 30, 2004 - All You, a new women's service magazine, from the publisher of Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly and People, will have an exclusive distribution at Wal-Mart for a year afer its launch in September 2004.

It will target value-conscious women and try to give practical information on everything from relationships and dieting to home repairs.

The magazine's editor in chief will be Isobel Bella Price and it will have a rate base of 500,000.

Launching a magazine with a retail relationship is not new. Bloomingdale's just launched their own magazine, B, but Wal-Mart will not have a financial stake in All You.

Healthy Family will launch in May

March 30, 2004 - A new health magazine aimed at the entire fsamily will be publishing six times in 2004, beginning in May.

"We think we can be the user's manual for raising a healthy family in today's world," says publisher and founder Richard Bulman. "There is no national consumer magazine that focuses on the health of the entire family."

The magazine will launch with a rate base of 220,000 and its cover price has been set at $3.99.

New Mexico targets baby boomers

March 30, 2004 - Trying to attract younger reasders than those of state-sponsored New Mexico magazine, the New Mexico Department of Tourism is testing four issues of Hello New Mexico.

The new magazine will target primarily baby boomers (39-57 year-olds) and will launch its first issue in late April with stories about celebrities who have some connection to the state. The next three issues will focus on food and wine, made in New Mexico, and spring and outdoor recreation topics.

The printing will be 10,000 per issue and distribution will be throughout the southwestern United States.

Giant leaps for young males

March 30, 2004 - A former group publisher at Maxim took $200,000 from his father-in-law and created Giant, an entertainment magazine for men in their 20's and early 30's.

Unlike other entertainment magazines aimed at males Giant will be broad, covering television, music, books and video games, both the new and the nostalgic.

The editor is Mark Remy.

The magazine will be launched in September with a rate base of 200,000.

Utahns get their own sports magazine

March 24, 2004 - A Utah auto dealer has launched a sports magazine for his fellow Utahns.

Utah Sports covers the gamut of the state's athletic scene -- from pros to preps. The tagline says it all: From team to extreme.

The premiere issue includes stories on National Indoor Football League Utah Warriors, Farmington PGA golfer Boyd Summerhays, big-mountain skier Brant Moles, Weber Wildcat Damien Baskerville and Mountain View High School's top prep basketball player Mallary Gillespie.

The editor is Andrew Jackson and the magazine's website is at http://www.utahsportsmag.com.

Federal IT managers get a new quarterly

Mar 24, 2004 - CDW Corporation has announced the launch of Fed Tech, a quarterly magazine designed to assist IT decision makers and implementers who use technology in the US federal government.

The magazine is aimed at IT professionals, such as CIOs and CSOs, who establish IT policy directives relating to their agency's mission and objectives. It also targets mid-level IT managers along with managers and directors responsible for day-to-day IT management and purchasing.

The premiere issue of the magazine, which carries the tagline "Technology Insights for Leaders in Federal Government," will be sent to 70,000 qualified subscribers.

Lee Copeland is the editor-in-chief.

Another low carb lifestyle magazine to debut

Mar 20, 2004 - Bimonthly LowCarb Energy will launch this coming May from Coincide Publishing LLC.

The magazine will offer general and nutrition information, recipes, wellness and fitness features, weight loss information, personal support, tips and other resources to women and men participating in one of the world's most popular new lifestyles.

The Editor-in-Chief is Vanessa Sands and the magazine's website will be http://LowCarbEnergyMagazine.com but it is being pre-introduced on http://sheknows.com/lowcarb.

Subscriptions are available and the publication will be distributed in Safeway and Albertsons stores.

LPGA official publication to debut this spring

Mar 17, 2004 - Crush, the new official publication of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), will launch this May.

"Crush is about the game and the dynamic women who play and love it," said Matthew Squire, publisher. The content will include player profiles beyond the golf course, golf instruction from top LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals, fashion, travel and high-energy features.

It will be a four-color glossy magazine and will be published in two sizes: a full-sized version and a more compact version for LPGA Tour events. It will be distributed nationwide at newsstands, premiere golf resorts, on-site at various LPGA Tour events and at other locations.

Crush will be published by custom publisher TMC USA which also publishes the official publications for Arnold Palmer and Hale Irwin; Ryder Cup and U.S. Open golf magazines. The company will be donating a percentage of the $7.99 retail cover price to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the official national charity of the LPGA.

Elegant Bride is coming back

Mar 10, 2004 - Elegant Bride is about to relaunch with a new publisher, Conde Nast's Fairchild Publications. Conde Nast also owns Bride's and Modern Bride.

Fairchild bought Elegant Bride from Pace Communications in 2003. The newly relaunched title will have a distribution of 500,000 copies and cost $5.99 an issue.

It is aimed at the "discerning and stylish bride." Editor-in-chief Margaret Kennedy said Elegant Bride will features high-end fashion and beauty and targets an older bride -- average age of 27 -- than more mass-market wedding magazines

First issue of new biannual literary magazine is out

March 9, 2004 - Swink, a biannual print magazine dedicated to identifying and promoting established and emerging literary talent, recently made its debut.

Swink's editor, Leelila Strogov, said, "Swink publishes writing that pushes the boundaries of the traditional - we're looking for work that is new in concept, form or execution, and that reflects a diversity of thought and perspective."

Temporary staffing gets trade magazine

Mar 5, 2004 - Corporate executives who use temporary or contract workers have a new magazine that debuts this week.

"This is the first and only magazine focused exclusively on the use of contract and temporary staffing," said Publisher Ron Mester.

The glossy, full-color magazine features interviews with key thinkers and corporate leaders as well as offers case studies and reports of best practices, strategies, tools, analyses, metrics, and new research exploring the effective use of a contingent workforce.

The publisher is Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc and is located in Los Altos, CA. Managing Editor is Alan Kay.

It was mailed to 15,000 qualified readers.

New York entertainment guide for kids to launch this month

Mar 4, 2004 - Time Out New York Kids, from the publishers of Time Out New York, is billed as "the go-to guide for families who want to turn the culture capital of the world into their personal playground."

It is geared towards the parents of children from ages 0 to 14 and will be a quarterly. Barbara Aria is the editor.
