March 27, 2002 - The content from FutureBanker and Financial Services Marketing, two standalone titles published by Thomson Media, will be absorbed into sister titles: Financial Services Marketing will continue as a supplement in American Banker and FutureBanker 's content will be added to U.S. Banker.

Darwin no longer in print

March 27, 2002 - The print version of Darwin will suspend publication following the April issue, although the Internet website will remain. International Data Group (IDG) published the title.

Architecture to revamp focus

March 25, 2002 - Architecture magazine will change its editorial voice, with the end result evident in the September issue. The new format will emphasize B2B resources rather the intellectual and academic journal of past years. A new editor-in-chief is being sought following the resignation of Reed Kroloff, effective May 15. The title has a paid circulation of 90,700.

Magazines face mailing cost increase

March 25, 2002 - As of June 30, consumer titles will spend approximately 10 percent more on postal costs while B2B titles have been hit with an 11.5 percent increase in mailing charges. Another rate hike proposal will most likely be filed between October and January 2003.

New general interest law magazine debuts

March 20, 2002 - Legal Affairs is set to debut April 2 as a general interest title examining the issues of law in the our culture, politics and society. Lincoln Caplan edits the Yale Law School-associated bimonthly. A full list of the approximately 15 departments that make up the magazine can be found on the title's website. New quarterly covers American justice system

March 20, 2002 - Equal Justice Magazine is a newly launched quarterly title from Legal Services Corporation (LSC), a nonprofit organization. The spring issue can be previewed on LSC's website. New editor-in-chief named at Spin

March 18, 2002 - Spin magazine has named a new editor-in-chief, Sia Michel, formerly the title's executive editor who has been acting as interim editor this past month following Alan Light's resignation. Ms. Michel is the first female editorial head of a national rock-music title.

East magazine cancels March issue

March 18, 2002 - East magazine, a pan-Asian lifestyle title owned by East Lifestyle Corp., has suspended publication and fired its staff.

Line56 repositioned as Line56 E-Business Journal

March 11, 2002 - The fate of Line56, the Line56 Media title recently placed on hiatus, has been decided. It will reappear as Line56 E-Business Journal. Full Story

Soap opera titles undergo changes

March 11, 2002 - Soap Opera Digest and its sister publication, Soap Opera Weekly, both Primedia titles, will incorporate editorial changes to weekly columns and feature sections when graphic elements are upgraded. Details were not immediately available, but the redesigns will be in place with the March 19 issue, due on newsstands today. Our database contains full contact information.

Living Room publishes third test issue

March 11, 2002 - Living Room, the Meredith shelter title, will publish its third test issue in late August with a newsstand distribution of 400,000 to 500,000 copies. An editor-in-chief has not been named to date.

Three IT trade titles become one

March 11, 2002 - Contract Professional and Purple Squirrel, both IT trade magazines published by NewWorkMedia, will be folded into a third IT title, The talent Economy. Writers should be aware that the company has been neglectful in paying freelance writers on time, if at all.

National Geographic expands

March 6, 2002 - National Geographic will publish two special issues, "Best of America" (July) and "Best Unpublished Pictures" (end of year). Check our database for contact information.

Computerworld adds new section

March 6, 2002 - Computerworld has added a new bimonthly feature titled "Emerging Technologies," covering technology developments that can impact IT executives. The title is published by IDG.

BBW back on track

March 6, 2002 - BBW, the plus-size magazine which was experiencing financial difficulties late last year, is back on track. "The April issue printed on Monday and will be on newsstands at the end of this month," noted Sally E. Smith, editor-in-chief.

New Choices is shuttered

March 6, 2002 - New Choices, Reader's Digest Association's 12-year-old bimonthly title for the 50-plus demographic, is ceasing publication.

Line56 on hiatus

March 6, 2002 - Line56, the e-business magazine, has suspended publication just three weeks after publishing its February issue. The future of the title will be finalized next week and options include partnering with another title, reducing publishing frequency, as well as ceasing publication altogether.

Us Weekly aims for more women readers

March 4, 2002 - Us Weekly will aim for a higher percentage of female readers, currently at 62 percent of its total audience. Writers should note that the title predicts the key to success will be up-to-the minute celebrity coverage.

Teen suspends regular publication

March 4, 2002 - Teen, the 44-year-old title with a circulation that dropped from two million to 1.2 million, will suspend publication in May. The title may reappear on newsstands as special issues with specific themes. The title had been purchased by Primedia seven months ago as part of the Emap acquisition.

New UK title and? to launch next week

March 4, 2002 - A new title covering art, fashion, architecture and science is set to debut March 11. and? is being published by a group of independent journalists led by editor Masoud Golsorkhi and backed by fashion label Prada. 150,000 copies will be distributed throughout Britain, the US, France, Italy, Germany and Japan.

Us has named a new executive editor, Janice Min, formerly the assistant managing editor at In Style. (March 27)

More has named a new editor-in-chief, Susan Crandell, formerly the magazine's editor and executive editor. (March 27)

Ladies Home Journal is searching for a new editor after promoting Myrna Blyth to editorial director of New York magazines and new product development. (March 27)

Us Weekly has lost its managing editor, Maura Fritz, and assistant managing editor, Chad Anderson. (March 27)

Celebrated Living, an American Airlines Publishing title, named a new editor, Lori Stacy, formerly the magazine's associate editor. (March 27)

Preaching magazine, a bimonthly title for pastors and ministers owned by Preaching Resources, Inc., has been acquired by iExalt, Inc. Editorial offices have been moved to Brentwood, Tenn. (March 20)

Taste of Home, Light & Tasty and Country Woman will be acquired by Readers Digest Association when RDA finalizes its acquisition of Reiman Publications. (March 20)

Dog World will move its editorial offices to Irvine, Calif., location of its new owner Fancy Publications. The New York-based staff is not expected to move and a search for a new editor and staff has started. (March 18)

Prime Times, a bi-monthly magazine for MEMBERS Prime Club, a non-profit membership association affiliated with CUNA Mutual Group, will cease publication. (March 18)

Official Xbox Magazine will raise its rate base in November by 30 percent, from 250,000 to 325,000. The title launched last November. (March 13)

PSM, an Imagine Media title, will raise its rate base from 325,000 to 400,000. The 23 percent increase will occur from July through December. (March 13)

Organic Style has named a new editor, Peggy Northrop, formerly the deputy editor at Real Simple. (March 13)

Garden Design appointed a new assistant editor, Sarah Kimbar. In addition, a new style editor was named, Donna Dorian. The magazine is published by World Publications. (March 13)

Mossy Oak's Hunting the Country, Cabela's Outfitter Journal, Southern Sporting Journal, Predator Xtreme, Knight & Hale Ultimate Team Hunting, Hunt Club Digest, Bass Club Digest, NBS's Hunt & Fish, and Pro Bull Rider Magazine, have been acquired by EBSCO Industries from Vulcan Publications' publishing division, Vulcan Outdoors. Offices will remain in Birmingham, Ala. (March 11)

Sports Illustrated appointed a new executive editor, Charlie Leerhsen, effective April 1. (March 11)

Harvard Business Review has lost its editor, Suzy Wetlaufer, following a controversial interview she conducted. Ms. Wetlaufer intends to remain on staff as an editor-at-large. Harris Collingwood and Alden Hayashi, both editors, resigned following the announcement. (March 11)

Australian Biotechnology News is a new weekly International Data Group title covering the information needs of Australians in the biotechnology industry. Visit the title's website for more information.

Social Register & Social Register Observer is the result of a merger of two separate publications, Social Register and Social Register Observer. The single title will be published in fall and spring. (March 6)

I.D., Watercolor Digest and Writer's Digest are now owned by William F. Reilly and Providence Equity Partners as part of their acquisition of Cincinnati-based F&W Publications Inc. (March 6)

Line, a biannual sports magazine, has become dormant after only three issues, following the acquisition of UK-based IPC by Time Inc. The title is part of IPC's men's lifestyle and music division, IPC ignite!. (March 4)

Gavin, a 44-year-old radio trade title, has suspended publication. The magazine was published by CMP Media's United Entertainment Media. (March 4)
