June 29, 2007 – PLUCK! is an “arts and culture magazine that explores the black aesthetic of the 12-state Appalachian region.”  Content includes essays on art, fiction and poems, music and theater reviews, as well as scholarly university-level features.

Frank Walker is editor of this Duncan Hill Press journal, which debuted with the June issue and is expected to publish two more issues in 2007.  The 20,000-copy distribution is by subscription.

Print magazine emerges from two year online presence

June 29, 2007 - MOM WRITER'S LITERARY MAGAZINE is celebrating its two year anniversary by going to print format. The "many faces of motherhood" are presented in a "down-to-earth, thoughtful, complex, humorous, sincere, penetrating, and raw" tone, covering creative nonfiction essays, book reviews, writer profiles and interviews, visual art, and poetry.

Samantha Gianulis is editor-in-chief of this quarterly publication, which debuts in print with its Summer issue.  A distribution of 6,000 copies is through independent bookstores and by subscription.
 

Lifestyle magazine for single mothers launched

June 29, 2007 - SM THE MAGAZINE FOR SINGLE MOTHERS offers "information, products and services that draw from modern practices and ancient philosophies – a broad spectrum of content that will help single mothers successfully manage their lives, mind, body and spirit." Topics include beauty and fashion, health and wellness, legal issues, finances, family perspectives, and celebrity interviews.

Publisher Crystal Jennings oversees this bi-monthly publication, which debuted with the April/May issue.  25,000 copies are distributed nationally by subscription and on newsstands.
 

Upscale alpine ski magazine planned

June 29, 2007 - SNOW: LIFE, LIFTS, LUXURY will be "focusing on the high-end alpine experience," with coverage including U.S. and international resort and recreational destination and property information, upscale equipment news, designer apparel, entertainment guides, and personality profiles.  The target audience is affluent snow-sports enthusiasts.
 

David Gibson is editor-in-chief of this Bonnier Corporation magazine, a sister title to SAVEUR, SKI, and SKIING. Three issues, December, January, and February will be published for the upcoming ski season.  30,000 copies will be distributed by subscription, select international newsstands, airport VIP lounges, and luxury hotels and spas, as well as polybagged with SAVEUR.
 

SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN announces changes effective with the July issue

June 29, 2007 - SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN is repackaging in-depth feature articles "to make the information they contain more understandable and to spell out more clearly their relevance to current affairs."  Articles will now also offer overview and topic summaries as well as summary sidebars. New magazine sections include "Opinion," from guest essayists, and "Updates," which revisits scientific discoveries or inventions and reports on what happened.

John Rennie is editor-in-chief of this monthly magazine from Holtzbrinck Publishers.  The domestic ratebase increases from 555,000 to 575,000; the international ratebase remains at 90,000.  A free download of the July issue is available through June 30 at http://www.sciam.com/
 

Magazine for men changes content focus

June 28, 2007 - MEN'S JOURNAL is increasing "the fun quotient and the humor and sexiness where those should exist, but also making it a more challenging read where it should be serious."  The magazine is providing more service, fashion, adventure, and news-to-use content rather than the previous fitness focus.

James Kaminsky is editor of this monthly Wenner Media magazine, which begins the editorial revamp with the August issue.
 

New medical journal focuses on disasters

June 28, 2007 - DISASTER MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS is covering "disaster response and health tactics for both natural and man-made disasters."

James. J. James, M.D. is editor-in-chief of this quarterly magazine, a partnership between the American Medical Association (AMA) and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.  The July debut issue is available to AMA members and by subscription to non-members.
 

Regional food magazine debuts this week

June 28, 2007 - EDIBLE JERSEY is focusing on "authentic, regionally-based food choices" from Jersey growers, producers, retailers, artisans, chefs, bakers, and home cooks.

Nancy Painter is editor-in-chief of this quarterly magazine, which joins other regional titles under the Edible Communities umbrella.  The premiere issue debuts this week with 40,000 copies distributed to statewide Whole Food markets and small specialty shops.  In the planning stages are EDIBLE PIEDMONT, EDIBLE GREEN MOUNTAINS, EDIBLE WHITE MOUNTAINS, and EDIBLE TORONTO.
 

Regional tennis magazine comes to play

June 25, 2007 – WNY TENNIS MAGAZINE provides biographies, interviews, game tips, and regional overviews of tennis lifestyle and events in western New York.  The initial coverage area is Buffalo, but expansion is expected into Rochester, Syracuse and southern Ontario.

Mark Ahrens oversees this publication, which debuted in April and will publish five issues per year: January, April, June, August, and October.  Distribution is through area tennis clubs and in sports complexes.
 

Niche retirement magazine grows

June 25, 2007 – PARK MODEL LIVING MAGAZINE is for people “who are passionate about their retirement living” in recreational vehicles that more closely resemble small houses, and have “an interest in permanent and part time living in beautiful parks across the country.” Topics range from culture, recreation home improvement, and maintenance, to finance, entertaining, dining, and park activities.

Kaeth Gauthier is editor-in-chief of the monthly publication, which debuted with the February issue.  The initial subscription distribution of 3,000 copies grew to 10,000 with the second issue.
 

New magazine for serious card collectors

June 25, 2007 – BECKETT GRADED CARD INVESTOR AND PRICE GUIDE is for the hardcore card collecting enthusiast interested in the big business aspect of rare and common cards alike.

Published quarterly by Beckett Media, charter subscriptions are currently being offered. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Travel magazine targets specific demographic market

June 25, 2007 – RESERVATIONS speaks to African-American travelers who wish to expand their travel horizons with realistic information. Topics include traveler’s do’s and don’ts, guides to weekend getaways, a traveling health guide, fashion trends and grooming tips, and financial planning for dream trips.

Kirstin N. Fuller is editor-in-chief of this bi-monthly magazine that debuted with the November/December issue.  The initial circulation was 75,000 copies and now distributes 400,000 copies through retailers, bookstores, and newsstands.
 

Regional artist magazine for New Yorkers

June 25, 2007 – SPREAD ARTCULTURE is an art and lifestyle publication that unites the global creative community with article coverage on fashion, fine art, architecture, interior design, film, literature, performing arts, interviews and photo-essays.

Jamie O’Shea is editor of this magazine with a distribution of 25,000 copies in New York City.  The Spring issue, the second published, reached newsstands on April 24. Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Planned magazine takes 360-degree look at travel

June 22, 2007 - CHICAGO ARCHITECT is for members of the American Institute of Architects'(AIA)Chicago chapter. Evolving from the AIA Chicago newsletter "Focus," the magazine will expand coverage on innovative member projects, interviews, technical developments, and significant international work by Chicago-based firms.

Dennis Rodkin is editor of this bi-monthly magazine, which is being published as a cooperative venture with McGraw-Hill. The debut issue will be first available at the chapter's annual award event on October 26.
 

New York magazine covers Japanese culture

June 22, 2007 - CHOPSTICKS NY is all about the "latest trends within the Japanese culture in New York," as well as listings of Japanese sources of lifestyle items and news from Japan.

Publisher Hitoshi Onishi oversees this monthly magazine from Trend Pot and debuted in April. 50,000 copies of the publication are distributed to tri-state area restaurants and grocery stores.
 

Regional magazine to launch for moms

June 21, 2007 - MOTHERWORDS is "an irreverent, realistic look at motherhood."  Articles range from birth stories, adoption, fun things to do with kids, and lifestyle changes.

Sarah Teres is editor of this monthly magazine, which will debut on June 25 and be available "north of Boston."  Writers do not have to be from the New England area; submissions and queries are being accepted.

New regional fitness magazine planned

June 21, 2007 - SBQ - SPORTS BACKERS QUARTERLY is all about healthy living in the Richmond, VA area.  "The publication will appeal to hard-core athletes and adults who are just interested in staying fit and healthy.

The quarterly publication is a partnership between Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers, Palari Publishing, and the Richmond Times-Dispatch.  The debut issue is expected in August, with 20,000 copies distributed to fitness enthusiasts.

Major newspaper plans magazine launch

June 21, 2007 - USA Today is working on an active lifestyles magazine. Topics will focus on "pursuits such as jogging, traveling, kayaking and hiking" according to Susan Lavington, senior VP-marketing.

The monthly publication is slated for release in October. Additional information was not immediately available.

Second annual issue of VOGUE LIVING confirmed

June 21, 2007 - VOGUE LIVING, first published in 2006, will offer a second issue this year, focusing on global innovation and trends in home and garden.

Hamish Bowles is editor-in-chief of this Conde Nast magazine, which will be polybagged with VOGUE to 300,000 subscribers in October.  The total ratebase, including newsstand distribution will be 500,000.  There is a possibility of an increased publication frequency in 2008.
 

Regional Canadian magazine in the works

June 21, 2007 - IN OAKVILLE, a sister title to IN BURLINGTON, is for the residents of Oakville, Ontario.  The focus in "the people and businesses that make Oakville tick." Topics include business, community, food, living well, fashion, and travel.

Susanne Hasulo is editor of this quarterly magazine, which is set to debut in December.  The title is published by Little Green Tree Publishing and will "launch with a circulation of 20,000-25,000."
 

B2B magazine for plumbers planned

New magazine for and about Hispanic business culture

June 20, 2007 - BUSINESS JOURNAL OF HISPANIC RESEARCH is for Hispanic business professionals, managers, and executives as well those who manage or work with Hispanic business professionals.  The magazine is divided into two sections: academic scholarly quantitative, qualitative or conceptual topics and the executive section, which includes case studies, organizational research, executive insights, and best practices.

Donna Maria Blancero is editor of this National Society of Hispanic MBAs publication.  The debut issue is expected June 27, followed by an additional 2007 issue in December. Publication frequency then increases to a quarterly schedule. A distribution of 10,000 copies is expected.
 

Texas magazine expands editorial content

June 20, 2007 - AUSTIN MUSIC MAGAZINE has been renamed AUSTIN MUSIC + ENTERTAINMENT and will provide "more coverage of Austin's local arts and culture, including expanded features on dining, shopping, and film.

The magazine recently merged with Publications and Communications, which publishes sister title TEXAS HOME & LIVING.  A change in editorial leadership is underway but further details were not immediately available.

Regional upscale lifestyle magazine debuts  

June 20, 2007 - BEVERLY HILLS REPORT is "first and foremost based on the luxurious lifestyle of Beverly Hills and the surrounding area."  Topics range from fashion and nightlife to health and fitness, dining, business and upscale property.

Grass roots racing magazine planned

June 20, 2007 - DIRT MODIFIED MAGAZINE is for racers, track owners, sanctioning bodies, car owners and fans of the dirt modified racing experience.
