New magazine challenges African Americans

July 31, 2007 - BLACK INTELLECT CAFE targets African Americans who are interested in the successful promotion of business ideas and to "realize their goals and life-long dreams."  Topics include news, finances, politics, entrepreneurship, education, history, information technology, business techniques, jobs, travel, culture here in the U.S. and Africa, health, fashion, lifestyle, and faith.

Publisher Sebastian Bruce oversees this monthly magazine, which debuts with the September issue today. The distribution of 500,000 copies is throughout the U.S. and Canada and can be found in bookstores, retail shops, transportation locations, and by subscription.
 

New magazine for green facility community

July 31, 2007 - SUSTAINABLE FACILITY is for professionals overseeing commercial, institutional, industrial, and government facilities.  Topics range from alternative energy, building automation efficiency, and sustainable design, to water conservation techniques, indoor maintenance and air quality, and energy conservation.

Publisher Liz Obloy is at the helm of this BNP Media magazine, which debuts in October, offers a second issue in December.  Publishing frequency then increases to seven issues per year.  30,000 copies will be distributed to qualified subscribers.
 

Regional lifestyle magazine debuts

July 31, 2007 - SHENANDOAH LIVING offers feature articles about the central Shenandoah Valley, VA area that cover the arts, history, area travel, gardening, interviews, and events.

Co-publishers Brad Jenkins and Toni Mehling oversee this quarterly magazine from Route 11 Publications.  This month's debut issue will be followed by the Fall/Winter 2007 edition.  10,000 copies are distributed to area businesses and professional offices.

July 31, 2007 - M magazine is all about advice on fashion and home decor trends and also showcases Macy's product offerings.

The quarterly title is published by MSP Communications and will debut in September with the Fall issue.  The magazine will be available in stores in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, and direct mailed to 500,000 Macy's North customers.
  

Wedding magazine for Hawaiians

July 31, 2007 - WHITE seeks to bring brides-to-be one step closer "into the lives of the people who make weddings work."  Coverage ranges from local Honolulu vendors to planning and expectations.

Tanna Dang is editor of this magazine, which launched with the Spring 2007 issue and will follow-up with the Autumn issue.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Regional pet magazine launches

July 31, 2007 - HAMPTONPET will be covering "responsible pet ownership, whether the pet has fur, fins, or feathers."  Topics include canine etiquette, children and pets, showmanship, events, and products, and the tone is both educational as well as entertaining.

Greg Wessel is editor-in-chief of this Raven LLC magazine, which debuts August 1 on eastern Long Island, NY and at some venues in Manhattan.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 
 
New food magazine for Canadian Golden Horseshoe region

July 26, 2007 - EDIBLE TORONTO plans to celebrate the seasons, diverse population, ethnic mosaic, local food sources and eating establishments, "and a return to a more satisfying way of life" for Ontario, Canada residents.

Gail Gordon Oliver is editor-in-chief of this quarterly franchise magazine, which will debut in September with the Fall issue.  Distribution and circulation information was not immediately available.
 

Regional LGBT magazine to launch

July 26, 2007 - OUTLOOK IOWA CITY is preparing to offer content that ranges from resources, diversity, and events, to issues "in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community."

Carlton Blackburn is managing editor of this semi-annual publication that will debut on September 1.  The magazine will be carried at participating area businesses but distribution volume information was not immediately available.

Experiences as a mom shared in Colorado

Ron Wilson is executive editor of this bi-weekly Reed Business Information magazine, a division of Reed Elsevier.  A qualified circulation of 134,000 copies is distributed.

July 24, 2007 - URBAN TIMES offers the residents of Kansas City a look at culture and entertainment from a revitalized downtown area.  Additional topics include news and travel information.

Michael Lehman is editor-in-chief of this monthly SeaSaw Publishing magazine, which debuted in March.  Current distribution of 10,000 copies is through 200 locations around Seattle.
 

Magazine shows a world beyond text blogs

July 24, 2007 - ARTFUL BLOGGING offers perspectives on artists and writers who share their creative work through online journals, galleries, and blogs.  Topics range from profiles and etiquette, to technology information sources and how to get started.

Magazine for real estate executives gets update

July 19, 2007 - THE LEADER, a member-exclusive magazine for corporate real estate executives, is increasing its editorial content to deliver "more articles on topics ranging from workplace issues to location strategy, and from service delivery to emerging markets."

Published by CoreNet Global, the editorial update of this bi-monthly journal begins with the July/August issue. 7,000 copies are distributed.

Two magazines for northern most Canadian territory

July 19, 2007 - KAAKULUK is a new bilingual magazine for the children of the Nunavut Territory, Canada.  Published in both English and Inuit, stories about Nunavut and being a Nunavummiut are designed to help elementary students appreciate reading.  PIVUUT is a teen-focused magazine with the same mission.

The magazines, a collaboration between the Nunavut Bilingual Education Society and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, will fully launch in September.  2,500 copies will be distributed to territorial schools.
 

Canadian magazine to target mothers

July 18, 2007 - MOM MAGAZINE is not a parenting publication, but rather about "getting back to themselves, and remembering that all women are goddesses." Topics range from finding play groups, restaurants, and spas, to health and fitness, personal makeovers, single moms, and lifestyle balance.

Tamar Plant is editor of this Edmonton-area title, which will launch in September in the Alberta Province towns of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Devon.  The magazine will distribute 20,000 copies to area businesses and gradually include additional small towns near Edmonton and areas surrounding Calgary.  The publishing frequency information was not immediately available.
 

Regional LGBTQ magazine debuts

July 18, 2007 - OUR LIVES is for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community of Madison, WI. Content covers community diversity, people and establishment profiles, day-to-day lifestyle obstacles, and events.

Patrick Farabaugh oversees this bi-monthly magazine, which debuted with the July/August issue and is distributed through community centers, bookstores, retail shops and specialty outlets.  The magazine can also be found in Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La Crosse, and Green Bay.
 

Philanthropic magazine has plans to grow

July 18, 2007 - NEW YORK CONTRIBUTE offers "engaging and responsible coverage of the philanthropic world to promote more effective giving."
The target audience of affluent charitable donors is interested in business "with a social conscience."

Marcia Stepanek is editor-in-chief of this bi-monthly publication, which debuted with the June/July 2006 issue and is distributed in the tri-state metropolitan New York area.  Four additional city editions will be added in 2008.
  

In-room magazine gets ready to launch

July 17, 2007 - JOIE DE VIVRE HOTELS MAGAZINE targets the guests of independent boutique hotelier Joie de Vivre Hospitality, which offers accommodations on the California coastline.  Topics will cover "area activities, perspectives on travel, entertainment, dining and fashion."

The semi-annual publication will launch in September with the Fall/Winter issue, with plans to present the Spring/Summer issue in April 2008.

Canadian version of GEORGE being planned

July 17, 2007 - SIR JOHN MAGAZINE "blends fashion and photography with detailed commentary on national and international political developments."
The publication is named after Canada's first Prime Minister.

Founder Anthony Santelli oversees this online launch from Premiere Media Group, which plans on going into monthly print in late spring or summer 2008.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

New magazine for the affluent in Northern California

July 17, 2007 - LUXLIFE is an upscale publication about travel, the arts, dining, fashion, entertainment, financial services, and real estate.  Two editions are planned: one for the Sacramento/Placer/El Dorado area; the other for Marin/Napa/Sonoma.

Anthony Glover oversees this bimonthly magazine from LuxLife Media, which debuted this month with a controlled circulation of 44,000.  Distribution is by direct mail to affluent residents (income over $275,000 per year) as well as through newsstands and businesses that cater to the well-to-do.
 

Home improvement magazine enters new market

July 13, 2007 - HOUSE & HOME debuted their first Oklahoma City issue this week. The focus is on home enthusiasts seeking information on beautifying, remodeling and improving indoor and outdoor livability.

Cherry Kay Clifford is editor of this monthly edition, which joins ten other major markets covered across the U.S.  Distribution is in book and retail stores as well as local business venues.
 

Bilingual magazine planned for western Michigan

July 13, 2007 - ENTERAR MAGAZINE is an English and Spanish language magazine whose title means "to inform."  Topics will be covered in such a way as to "bring to light social and economic barriers, foster growth in our communities, and encourage an interactive setting for solutions."  The target area is from Grand Rapids to Muskegon, Kalamazoo and New Buffalo.

Lifestyle magazine launched

July 13, 2007 - PREEN is a fashion, beauty, arts, and music lifestyle magazine.  The target audience is young, independent women seeking the "fantastic in your everyday life."

Publisher Lilly Sein McElroy is publisher of this bi-monthly publication, which launched with the February/March issue.  Distribution is through boutiques and newsstands in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
 

Twin Cities magazine focuses on radio

July 13, 2007 - RADIO MAGAZINE is for the metropolitan radio audience of the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area.  Content will include programming and personality features.

Parenting magazine debuts

July 12, 2007 - PARENTS FOR PARENTS "provides real life examples and solutions that work" by "having parents share with other parents their learned tips, tools and solutions."  Each issue follows one specific topic for in-depth coverage.

Linda Deane is editor of this quarterly MYSU Company publication, which debuts with the Summer 2007 issue.  The initial circulation is 4,000 and the magazine plans to increase that to 15,000 by the Spring 2008 issue. National distribution is by subscription and in retail stores.
 

Canadian magazine changes core focus

July 12, 2007 - CE BIZ, a trade magazine aimed at electronics and technology dealers, is changing in order to capture the attention of the consumer market.

The 10,000 circulation magazine will become a monthly consumer supplement in the Sunday Toronto Star, with a copy distribution of 300,000.

Bauer magazine doesn't make the mix

July 10, 2007 - COCKTAIL WEEKLY, a Bauer Publishing magazine planned for launch in September for has been canceled.

The reason was cited as "uncertain conditions is the single-copy marketplace" and that "twentysomethings have been trained to get more of their information online and through mobile devices."
 

Major magazine closing announced

July 9, 2007 - JANE, published by Conde Nast Publications, is ceasing print and online publication following the August issue.

"We worked diligently to make Jane a success.  However, we have come to believe that the magazine and website will not fulfill our long-term business expectations," said Conde Nast President and Chief Executive Charles Townsend in a statement.
 

Regional lifestyle magazine launched

July 6, 2007 – PRINEVILLE is all about the outdoor activities in the Crook County area of Oregon, serving both residents and tourists.  Additional topics cover reviews and profiles of restaurants and businesses.

Kyla Merwin Cheney is executive editor of this Cascadia Magazine Company publication.  31,000 copies of this annual magazine will be distributed statewide and with the summer issue of CASCADES EAST, a sister title.  The publishing frequency may increase to semiannual or quarterly in the next year.

Canadian magazine targets readers of Asian descent

July 3, 2007 - BLINK represents "an eclectic mix of eastern and western sensibilities" for Asian-Canadians who "grew up with mainstream tastes and culturally rooted values."  The lifestyle information magazine reports on Toronto entertainment, real estate, and commuting while also offering profiles of entertainers, designers, artists and entrepreneurs.

Upscale regional magazine debuts

July 3, 2007 - CANANDAIGUA MAGAZINE is a lifestyle magazine for the New York residents of Canandaigua and Ontario counties.  Topics include food, entertainment, art, culture, and profiles of area personalities.
