TV GUIDE content to radically shift

July 27, 2008 - As of October 17, TV GUIDE will shift to a national edition magazine, with 75 percent of its content as editorial news and features, rather than the previous 25 percent.  Articles will encapsulate "more behind-the-scenes insights and information on viewers' favorite shows and stars."  In addition, the revamped title includes reviews and best choice recommendations.

Circulation will drop by two-thirds to 4.5 million copies printed . Separate editions for the east and west coasts are planned, but only to account for the time shift in show programming.
 

UK mag coming to America

July 27, 2005 - OK!, a UK celebrity watching publication, will be coming to the U.S.  There are two executive editors: Lori Berger on the West Coast and Juliet Heller out of New York.

An initial print run of 1.3 million is planned for this weekly title, with the debut issue appearing sometime in early August.
 

High circulation food mag to launch

July 25, 2005 - Celebrating America's love of food is RELISH, a new monthly title set to debut in February 2006.  Articles cover cooking, dining, and entertaining, along with tips and products.  Features range "from formal dinner parties to tailgates to rural roadside restaurants."

Publishing Group of America will launch the title with a circulation of 6 million, to be distributed via daily newspapers.
 

Men's weekly mag gearing up for launch

July 25, 2005 - BULLET, a men's weekly magazine from Hearst, was road tested by a focus group in New York last week.  Early observations indicate that features will cover real-life action stories and sports news.

Keith Blanchard is overseeing the project.  Additional information was not immediately available.
 

Pregnancy mag for women 35 and over

July 20, 2005 - Health and wellbeing, lifestyle, home and entertainment, beauty and fashion, life during pregnancy and the first months after birth, and life tactics are the focus of PLUM.

Published by Groundbreak Publishing, in cooperation with The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the annual title is distributed to ACOG members. The website is http://www.plummagazine.com

New magazine premiers for materials scientists

July 20, 2005 - MATERIALS ENGINEERING NEWS debuted with feature articles on "new materials being developed and how they are being applied, the latest technology advancements in materials-related manufacturing and testing, service capabilities, and related business and market news of the materials industry."

The quarterly title is published by Webcom Communications and distribution by subscription.
 

International black lifestyle mag launches

July 20, 2005 - NOIR targets the upwardly-mobile black community with articles on entertainment, fashion, beauty, finance, careers, health, travel and social issues.  Showing "black people in society as leading trendsetters, role models, decision makers and leaders" is an important focal point.

The bi-monthly magazine, published by Brownstone Media, is set to launch in the U.S. this fall.  Additional distribution will be throughout Canada, the UK, Europe and Africa.
 

Atlanta Braves fan mag resuscitated

July 20, 2005 - CHOPTALK, the fan magazine covering the Atlanta Braves baseball team, is back on solid ground.  Coverage continues to feature that which "really goes behind the scenes with the players."

Gary Caruso, long-time editor of the monthly title, acquired the publishing rights from the Atlanta Braves through his Wonderdog Publishing company.  The magazine resumed publication in April after being shuttered for three months.
 

The world of skin care covered

July 20, 2005 - Cosmetic plastic surgery, skin care, anti-aging, health, and medicine are the focal points of SKIN DEEP, a recently launched magazine for people interested in cutting-edge information.

Houseboating publication launched

July 20, 2005 - Houseboats enthusiasts have their own magazine, appropriately named HOUSEBOATING ADVENTURES.  Features include destinations, vacation planning, profiles, tours, galley and cooking advice, electronics and in-boat entertainment, driving tips, and maintenance.  Reviews cover resorts, gear, and houseboat models.

All things Mazda

July 19, 2005 - MAZDASPORT launched recently, covering anything and everything of interest to Mazda car owners.

Food style mag launches

July 19, 2005 - OPTIMUM WELLNESS  "aims to educate consumers on the benefits of natural and organic living."

The Active Interest Media title debuted July 1 in Kroger-owned food stores in Southern California, Seattle, and Denver. Sister titles include VEGETARIAN TIMES and BETTER NUTRITION.
 

New gaming/lifestyle mag launched this month

July 19, 2005 - While casino gaming is at the heart of the new magazine CAESARS PLAYER, coverage also includes fashion, food, wine, travel, health, beauty, entertainment, and celebrity stories.

Three issues will be published annually with a ratebase of 170,000 copies.  Current distribution is in Caesar Entertainment property guest rooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, with 100,000 additional copies mailed to valued clients.  Future plans call for subscription offerings and newsstand sales.
 

Fashion jet setters get new quarterly pub

July 18, 2005 - WWD SCOOP is for trendsetters looking for the "insider perspective on people, places, events, trends, and new discoveries in nightlife, food, books, movies, culture and design."

The title is published by Fairchild Publications.  WWD (Womens Wear Daily) is a sister title.
 

Regional luxury home pub coming soon

July 18, 2005 - NEW ENGLAND HOME is all about the architecture and design of premier homes throughout the New England area.

Hunting mag to launch in fall

July 18, 2005 - WATERFOWL & RETRIEVER is a new duck and goose-hunting magazine, featuring advanced decoying and hunting strategies, product reviews, dog training and care products, regional reports, and outfitter and guide profiles.

Bob Robb is editor of this Grand View Media Group publication.  50,000 copies will be distributed, although the publication frequency was not immediately known.

Two regional lifestyle pubs planned

July 18, 2005 - Food, culture, society, philanthropy, home design, arts, beauty, entertainment, fashion, sports and travel are all subjects included in the upcoming launch issues of BOSTON COMMON and CAPITOL FILE.  Both quarterly magazines debut this September with specific information for Boston and Washington, D.C., respectively.

Publisher Niche Media will distribute approximately 140,000 copies of each title to affluent residents, newsstands, hotels, airline shuttles and universities.
 

International lifestyle and travel mag to launch

July 18, 2005 - ANYWAY targets anyone on the move with "features on travel, food, fashion and mobility and a focus on revealing new stylish modern travel destinations" from the perspective of local insiders.

Published by Ahead Media (Berlin, Germany), the title will launch in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.  Distribution of 150,000 copies will go to bookstores, train station kiosks, airports, and selected hotels.  A second issue is due out in November and then publishes bi-monthly in 2006.
 

New mag title takes over CRAFT DIGEST

July 15, 2005 - EAST COAST ARTISAN will debut its January/February issue in mid-December as a replacement for CRAFT DIGEST, which ceases publication after the October issue.  The new title will continue to list craft shows and offer insider tips, but will also feature area artist profiles, book reviews, and more photography of artists' work.

At the helm of this bi-monthly publication are Leeann Skalkos and Judith Standerford.  Distribution is by subscription. The website is http://www.eastcoastartisan.com/.
 

Lifestyle title launches from Chicken Soup book creators

July 15, 2005 - CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE AMERICAN SOUL will debut on newsstands July 26 with features on family, food, fashion, home, health, travel, entertainment and culture articles, as well as the trademark stories of inspiration.  The target audience is women aged 25-54.

J. Mignonne Wright is editor-in-chief of the bi-monthly title, also distributed by subscription. Initial circulation is 150,000 copies.  The title is published in collaboration with Modern Media, LLC, former publisher of the defunct AMERICAN MAGAZINE.
 

Regional shelter title launches

July 15, 2005 - A luxury architecture and home design magazine, LUXE, targets Coloradoans throughout the state.

The Sandow Media title will debut with an initial circulation of 22,000 on newsstands and select locations.  Frequency, launch issue, and editorial information was not immediately available.

Different focus planned for new baby title

July 15, 2005 - BABY CENTER is for pregnant women and new moms, with each issue focusing on a specific phase. The debut September issue is all about the second trimester. The November issue covers the third trimester, with two new issues in the first quarter of 2006 planned for the newborn baby timeframe.  Content includes critical information and insights.

Jim Scott is editor with Nina Martin as executive editor.  A controlled circulation of two million and a ratebase of 500,000 subscribers is planned.
 

Military defense subject of new pub

July 15, 2005 - DEFENSE TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL will be an "information source focused on current and emerging defense technologies," including air, land and sea-based systems.  Content features in-depth articles on weapons development, manufacturing, and military applications of information technology.

Anthony L. Velocci, Jr. is editor-in-chief. Published by The Aviation Week Group of The McGraw-Hill Companies, the title debuts September 12 with a second issue planned for November 21.  The magazine will publish bi-monthly in 2006 and is packaged with AVIATION WEEK & SPACE TECHNOLOGY.
 

Monthly shelter mag arrives

July 14, 2005 - Newly launched DOMINO, geared toward home and apartment dwellers, is all about "practical advice and down-to-earth, slightly irreverent decor tips."  There are how-to articles, new product trends, and gardening features.

New food mag to launch this November

July 14, 2005 - Recipes for every day and holidays, along with creative food presentation tips, is at the core of COOKING WITH PAULA DEEN.  Features also cover Ms. Deen's restaurant, sons, special events, places she likes to visit, and gardening tips.

The bi-monthly title is a joint venture between The Lady Enterprises, Inc. and Hoffman Media, LLC.  Distribution will be through newsstands, bookstores, and by subscription.
 

Black women's hair subject of new pub

July 14, 2005 - NAPTURAL ROOTS MAGAZINE will promote "natural hair, though a healthy mind, body, and soul."

Regional lifestyle debuts in Washington, D.C.

July 13, 2005 - The May/June debut issue of DC STYLE captures the lifestyle of the local area.  Articles cover dining, health, beauty, home, design, retail, nightlife, and real estate, and targets the age group of 24 to 45.

Dana Spain-Smith oversees this bi-monthly title from DLG Media Holdings.  Distribution is 60,000 on newsstands, in hotels, targeted mailings, and by subscription.  Its sister publication is STYLE PHILADELPHIA.
 

Two ROAD & TRACK sister car mags launch

July 13, 2005 - ROAD GEAR and SPEED are two new Hachette Filipacchi titles alongside sister publication ROAD & TRACK.  The first covers trends and technology of car-centric audio/video, navigation systems, wireless internet, and satellite radio, with how-to-buy and how-to-install features.  The second offers articles on high-performance cars, including upgrades, electronics, and aftermarket "go-fast" parts.

The two bi-monthly titles will overlap in publication schedules, starting with ROAD GEAR'S debut April/May issue and SPEED'S May/June issue.
 

Weekly woman's mag in the works

July 13, 2005 - QUICK & SIMPLE launches soon, with features on home, family, food, health, nutrition, fitness, fashion, and beauty.  The focus is on "tips, advice and solutions."

Susan Toepfer is editor-in-chief of this weekly Hearst Magazines publication.
 

New baby mag launches

July 13, 2005 - SOUTHERN BABY covers the first four years of a child's life, whether by birth or adoption.  Parents, expectant parents, and grandparents are the audience for this national publication "with a decidedly Southern emphasis."

Barbara Cockerham is editor of this quarterly Hoffman Media title.  Sister titles include SOUTHERN LADY and TEATIME.
 

Miami condo scene subject of new pub

July 13, 2005 - The new and pre-construction condo industry in Miami-Dade and Broward counties is the focus of a new title, MIAMI SKYLINE.  Articles will cover new developments, upcoming hot areas, and award winning projects.  The target audience is both buyers and investors.

Lifestyle and news pub for foreign students

July 11, 2005 - WORLD SCHOLAR wants to "capture the drive and zeal of foreign students" by covering news, profiles of international students, and U.S. colleges and universities.  The latest news on college applications, scholarships, immigration, housing, and job market issues will also be featured.

Published by Uni-Recruitment, Inc., the title debuts this fall with one issue and a circulation of 100,000.  Plans call for quarterly publication in 2006.  The website is http://www.theworldscholar.com.
 

Asian women target of new mag

July 11, 2005 - COOL! MAGAZINE is a family-focused publication covering Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties in Michigan.  The overall purpose is to "better the community." Articles cover social responsibility, transition from high school to college, community and human service, health and fitness, volunteerism, career planning and retraining, and resources which support families.

Co-founders Kathy Andres and Jim Schoenherr oversee this title which is distributed to schools, churches, businesses and community organizations.  The publication schedule was not immediately available.
 

Regional D.C. gardening mag blooms

July 11, 2005 - WASHINGTON GARDENER targets Washington D.C. residents with articles designed to appeal to "all income levels and levels of experience."  Themes for upcoming issues include container gardening, backyard bird habitats, garden antiques, and trees and shrubs.

Kathy Jentz is at the helm of this bi-monthly title, which debuted with the March/April issue.
 

CASINO CONNECTION debuts in Nevada

July 8, 2005 - Nevada gaming industry employees now have a magazine addressing local issues.  CASINO CONNECTION, also published for the Atlantic City area, features articles on the history of Nevada gaming, career advancement, local and state legislation, and guides to shopping, recreation, dining and entertainment.

The monthly title, published by Casino Connection International, is distributed in casino hotels and mailed to state legislators, gaming regulators, and companies with industry products and services.  GLOBAL GAMING BUSINESS is a sister title.
 

Women and wine paired in new mag
