New trade magazine targets restaurant startups

July 15, 2004 - Dreaming about opening a restaurant? Then you have a new magazine to turn to for answers.

Restaurant Startup & Growth will address the concerns of the owners of the 30,000-plus new restaurants opening every year in the United States.

"If Rocco DiSpirito had read Restaurant Startup & Growth, events may have worked out smoother for him," says Gary Worden, the magazine's co-publisher and a successful restaurateur, referring to the embattled restaurant owner in a popular reality show.

Each issue is planned with basic, how-to information for new restaurateurs, covering everything from signage to tip reporting, from creating a wine list to buying a dishwasher. Every aspect of running a successful restaurant is included, whether it's food preparation, personnel management or financial recordkeeping.

Interested readers can check out the magazine on its website http://www.restaurantowner.com/mag.

Timeshare shopping magazine debuts

July 13, 2004 - Bigfish Publications, an Arizona-based specialty magazine publisher, has launched Hiatus Travel magazine, a consumer travel magazine for vacation and timeshare enthusiast families.

Editor-in-chief David Wood says, "Hiatus will change the way people buy and exchange timeshare property."

Research has shown that one of the biggest barriers for the timeshare industry is the consumer's lack of knowledge of the product and how it works. Hiatus will strive to provide useful resort information and continuous education on timeshares for consumers interested in learning about the product.

Destination features will cover worldwide locations, both popular and remote, that have timeshare accommodations available for purchase, exchange or rental. Resorts and activities will be reviewed by editors and readers can also write reviews through the resort database on http://www.gohiatus.com.

The quarterly magazine was introduced recently to the industry at a convention held in Las Vegas.

Chicago edition of shelter magazine launched

The plans are to publish the magazine ten times a year. Editorial staff in the publisher's Phoenix office, along with local freelance writers, will produce its four first issues. If things go well, the magazine plans to hire a local managing editor in October.

New tech title coming this October

July 2, 2004 - Digital World is a new publication covering the convergence of PC, consumer electronics, and mobile communications products.

It's first bimonthly issue will be October 2004 and it's mission is to help readers manage their entertainment technology.

The publisher is PC World Communications Inc and the editor is Harry McCracken, editor-in-chief of PC World. "Today, everything's going digital and wireless communications will soon turn every home into a networked house. Digital World will provide easy-to-understand information on the products and services," he said.

The magazine will include extensive testing of consumer electronics products, performed by the publisher's PC World Test Center, which has undergone an expansion to create a "digital living room," simulating real world conditions for true-to-life test results. HDTVs, home theater equipment, car electronics will be assessed based on degree of setup difficulty and connection in an actual home environment.
