Ultimate Weddings includes wide range of content

January 30, 2002 - A new wedding title is set to debut in mid-March. Ultimate Weddings, an offshoot of Elle and Elle Décor, is led by editor-at-large Patricia Beard and will focus not only on the style and design elements of the wedding itself, but a married woman's life thereafter. A second issue is expected sometime later this year.

Video Games Underground remake of folded title

January 30, 2002 - Video Games Review, which folded a year ago, has been reinstated by new owner Kappa Publishing Inc as a bimonthly title under a new name, Video Games Underground. The relaunch debut is scheduled for March 26. Coverage will focus more on cheat sheets and special codes than ratings.

YM goes on diet of its own

January 30, 2002 - As of the April issue, YM will no longer be publishing diet-related editorial material.

Simple Scrapbooks new spinoff

January 28, 2002 - Creating Keepsakes, a Primedia Inc. title, has launched a spinoff, Simple Scrapbooks. The bimonthly focuses on helping busy hobbyists find easy and creative methods of putting together scrapbooks.

New literary title to launch for New Yorkers

January 28, 2002 - Ready Set is the name of a new bimonthly literary magazine set to debut in April. The target audience is young, urban New Yorkers looking for personal essays, in-depth journalism on modern issues, cultural criticism, humor and fiction. BB Media Corp publishes the title.

New Choices targets new market

January 28, 2002 - New Choices, a bimonthly lifestyle title for the 50-plus group, is tightening its editorial content to target empty nesters (50-64), starting with the January/February issue. The common theme is what takes place when children have left home and the changes in socioeconomic and purchasing power. Coverage will include home electronics, real estate and hobbyist pursuits, as well as heath and travel, although the focus is more on freedom than ailments.

Modern Healthcare introduces new format

January 28, 2002 - A new format at Modern Healthcare, beginning with the January 28 issue, includes more coverage on healthcare business news as well as new/expanded editorial sections such as Late News, Op-Ed, By the Numbers, Newsmakers and The Edge. Mutual Funds boosts coverage

January 28, 2002 - Mutual Funds has a new tagline, "Plan. Invest. Succeed.," and with the January issue, coverage is focused more on strategic investment, financial planning and overall investment success. Full Story

INNERCITY magazine repositioned

January 28, 2002 - INNERCITY magazine, a three-year-old regional title, is being repositioned as an urban youth entertainment publication targeting the 14- to 24-year-old market. The title, published by Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, will launch in April with 100 percent celebrity coverage including news, interviews, profiles, reviews and releases. In-flight magazine relaunches

January 23, 2002 - Clipper, the in-flight magazine for Pan American Airways will relaunch as a bimonthly title in April following a 12 year suspension.

Talk folds

January 21, 2002 - Talk magazine has ceased publication after two and one half years. The title was a joint venture between Hearst Magazines and Miramax Films.

Regional men's title goes national

January 21, 2002 - Controversy, originally a Houston regional men's title that has grown throughout the southwestern U.S., is poised to debut nationally in February. The title plans to differentiate itself by including a broader range of material besides sex. A 200,000 print run is planned with distribution to newsstands, bookstores, universities, airports and military bases. A ratebase goal of 100,000 has been established.

New home arts title launched

January 21, 2002 - Today's Creative Home Arts is the new bimonthly publication of the Creative Home Arts Club. North American Media Group, a division of North American Membership Group, publishes the magazine. A ratebase of 100,000 is anticipated.

Pipeline and Gas Technology to launch in April

January 21, 2002 - Pipeline and Gas Technology, a new title set to debut in April, fills a void for the worldwide pipeline, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation industry left with the demise of Pipeline & Gas Industry magazine. The title is published by Houston-based Hart Publications, a division of Chemical Week Associates, led by editor Lew Bullion who can be reached at 713-993-9320.

Black Diaspora placed on alert list

January 16, 2002 - Black Diaspora, a small sociopolitical title, has landed on the National Writers Union Writers Alert list for failure to pay several freelance writers last month.

Modern Bride to change hands

January 16, 2002 - Modern Bride and the regional magazines, Modern Bride Connections, part of PRIMEDIA Inc.'s Modern Bride Group, are being sold to Condé Nast Publications.

O, The Oprah Magazine to debut first international edition

January 16, 2002 - The first international edition of O, The Oprah Magazine will debut in South Africa in April 2002 as a bimonthly. The project is a joint venture between Hearst Magazines, Harpo Print, LLC and Associated Magazines South Africa.

Jordan to cover opinion, features and inspiration

January 14, 2002 - A new magazine is due out on newsstands February 12 titled Jordan, named after basketball player Michael Jordon. Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, in conjunction with Hearst Custom Publishing, is putting together the title that will contain opinion pieces and features reflecting the inspiration of Mr. Jordan. Edited by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, Jordan will be published twice in 2002 and is slated for quarterly issues in 2003. Advanced copies will be available in Philadelphia during the National Basketball Association's All-Star Weekend, February 8-10. Circulation is estimated at 300,000.

January 14, 2002 - HomeStyle, a Gruner + Jahr title, will cease publication following its March issue.

New men's lifestyle magazine to launch

January 9, 2002 - ADAM is a new lifestyle magazine for men between the ages of 24 and 34 looking for regular coverage on issues such as money, health, law, relationships, fashion and food. Published by Monarch Services, a developer of multi-media entertainment for men, the title is set to debut January 15 at newsstands. The focus is clear, concise and complete articles that will appeal to men with busy lifestyles. The founding editor is Thomas Dworetzky.

New technology section launches at Barron's Magazine

January 9, 2002 - "Technology Week," a new section in Barron's Magazine, will debut in the January 14 edition. Coverage of the technology sector will be handled in column and chart formats targeting tech-savvy investors and business executives. Dow Jones & Company publishes the title.

New Microsoft UK e-zine to use contributors

January 9, 2002 - Slate, Microsoft's US-based e-zine will be expanding its coverage of politics, culture, literature, sports and business to include UK-specific articles to eventually be posted at MSN.co.uk. Contributors from UK national press and consumer magazine sources will supplement material gathered by a small editorial team, although bylines will most likely not be included.

Essence introduces new editorial content

January 7, 2002 - The January issue of Essence debuts the first in a new series of articles, "The War on Girls," focused on the challenges of young black women. Look for the title to include heavier hitting profiles of nationally recognized women such as Condoleezza Rice, which appears in the February issue.

New editor-in-chief at Martha Stewart Living announced

January 7, 2002 - Newly appointed editor-in-chief Margaret Roach is now handling all editorial content at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. This includes flagship publication Martha Stewart Living as well as Martha Stewart Weddings, Martha Stewart Baby, Martha Stewart Kids, all special issues and books and the website.

Washington Technology expands content

January 7, 2002 - Washington Technology has added a new section dedicated to emerging technologies and solutions. In addition, the federal section expanded to include an in-depth report on a different federal agency in every issue. The magazine has also begun a new section titled "The IT Crowd" in order to provide more focused coverage on the integrator community while Congressional and White House policies will also receive more print space. The title is written for private-sector government integrators and is published by Post Newsweek Tech Media.

Bio-IT World announces editor and content focus

January 7, 2002 - Bio-IT World, a new life sciences title due to debut in March by owner International Data Group (IDG), named an editor-in-chief, Kevin Davies, Ph.D. The title's tagline is Strategic IT Applications for the Life Sciences and editorial content will include news analysis and case studies that enhance scientific research, the R&D process and the business success of the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. The target audience includes professionals in the life sciences who are involved in bioinformatics, drug discovery and development, genomics, proteomics, and related disciplines in industry, government and academia.


Zoetrope is moving from New York on February 15 to San Francisco. Four staffers will not be making the move, including editor-in-chief Adrienne Brodeur who plans to continue her role from New York. A new west coast staff, as yet unnamed, will debut their work in the August issue. (January 30)

Working Mother has named a new editor-in-chief, Jill Kirschenbaum. (January 30)

Runner's World will debut in Spain this March with 15,000 newsstand issues as well as being packaged with Sport Life magazine. (January 30)

People en Espanol has named two new deputy managing editors, Genevieve Fernandez, who will continue her duties as entertainment editor, and Angel Linares, whose responsibilities include features editor. (January 30)

Healthcare Products Today is the new name of Medical Products Sales, a Douglas Publications Inc. title. (January 30)

Cable World has named a new editor, William F. Gloede, effective February 11. Primedia Business-to-Business publishes the title. (January 30)

University Business has been acquired by Norwalk, Conn.-based Professional Media Group (PMG). The title, published 10 times per year, will fold PMG's Matrix magazine into its circulation of 34,345. Editor Patrick Clinton will join the title's staff. (January 28)

New York magazine, a Primedia, Inc. title, will reduce its publishing frequency from 48 to 46 issues this year, resulting in six double issues. (January 28)

U.S. News & World Report will publish two double issues this winter, reducing its weekly issues by two. The first double issue will cover the Winter Olympics and one in February will focus on "Greatest American Presidents." (January 28)

US Weekly will publish three fewer issues this year, with double issues, now numbering at 12, expected during weeks when entertainment news is scarcer. (January 28)

Jane has named a new editor/managing editor, Andrea Rosengarten, promoted from executive editor/managing editor. (January 28)

Ophthamology Times China, an Advanstar Communications Inc. title, is set to debut sometime in spring to a controlled circulation of 7,500 in China. The magazine is led by managing editor Dr. Yu Rong. (January 28)

Time magazine has named two new executive editors, Adi Ignatius, formerly with Time Asia, and Priscilla Painton, formerly the title's assistant managing editor. In addition, a new science editor was appointed, Philip Elmer-DeWitt, and a new editor of Time Asia was named, Karl Taro Greenfeld. (January 23)

Golf for Women has named a new editor-in-chief, Susan Reed. (January 23)

This Old House has been acquired by Time4 Media, Inc., a subsidiary of Time Inc. A new managing editor was named, David Sloan, as well as a new deputy managing editor, Peter Spring. Editor-in-chief Donna Sapolin was let go. (January 21)

Smart Business has named a new editor-in-chief, Wendy Taylor, who was promoted from the position of editor. (January 21)

Registered Rep has announced a new editor, David Geracioti, formerly a senior editor with Smart Money. (January 21)

Redbook has named a new health editor, Emma Marlin. (January 21)

Newsweek has lost its business senior editor, Eben Shapiro. (January 21)

More is increasing its ratebase by approximately eight percent in February, from 650,000 to 700,000. (January 21)

Healthy Kids has ceased publication. (January 21)

Garden Design announced a new managing editor, Donna Jones. (January 21)

Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion is now 80 percent owned by Greenwich, Conn.-based Belvoir Publications, Inc., following their acquisition from partners Cox Publishing and Andrews & McMeel Universal. The editorial office remains in University City, Mo. (January 21)

Elle Canada has named a new beauty editor, Claire Cholley, who replaces Kenza Bennis. In addition, lifestyle editor Suzanne Goudreau has left the magazine. (January 21)

Cosmopolitan has named a new assistant beauty editor, Andrea Lavinthal. (January 21)

AlleyCat News has once again ceased publication as of January 8. (January 21)

Style 24/7 is being reevaluated by publisher American Media Inc. after just four issues and may resume in May again after disappearing from newsstands following the 9/11 attack on America. (January 21)

Skiing Magazine has announced a new editor-in-chief, Perkins Miller, formerly the editor-in-chief at Mountain Sports & Living Magazine. (January 16)

Sports Illustrated's managing editor, Bill Colson, will step down from his position at the end of the Winter Olympics in late February. A replacement could be announced in a few weeks. (January 16)

Private Equity International Magazine recently launched to 5,000 professionals worldwide with in-depth analysis of the private-equity industry. The Investoraccess Ltd. title plans to grow to a circulation of 20,000. (January 16)

Pebble Beach - The Magazine has been acquired by Palm Springs, Calif.-based Desert Publications Inc. from Somerset Publications Inc. (January 16)

PC World will debut an English-language edition in Nepal at the end of January during CAN Info-Tech 2002. The IDG title will have a 3,000 copy print run. (January 16)

Men's Health announced a new executive editor, Jeff Csatari. (January 16)

Ladies' Home Journal has a new assistant editor, Meredith Franco, formerly an editorial assistant and executive editor with the title. (January 16)

Family Circle has lost its Home assistant editor, Rachel Richter. (January 16)

Distribution Channels Magazine has named a new editor-in-chief, Traci Carneal, who replaced Jill Kosko. (January 16)

CosmoGIRL announced a new senior editor, Leslie Heilbrunn and associate editor, Korey Karnes. No longer editorial contacts for the title are senior editor Leah Ginsberg, assistant editor Marina Khidekel and senior editor Barbara Stepko. (January 16)

BusinessWeek has named a new International Finance editor, John Koppisch, and a new associate editor, Julia Lichtblau. (January 16)

Teen People has named a new music editor, Matt Hendrickson, formerly a staff writer with the Rolling Stone. The title also announced a new articles editor, Jeremy Helligar, formerly the magazine's senior entertainment editor. (January 14)

Mother Jones now owns Brill's Content subscription list of approximately 75,000 people. (January 14)

Internet Week, a CMP Media title, has ceased publication following its January 7 issue. (January 14)

FIT magazine has ceased publication following the August 2001 issue. (January 9)

Yankee magazine has named a new editor, Michael Carlin. (January 7)

Writer's Digest has named a new managing editor, Jane Friedman. The title's sister publication, Writer's Market, announced a new editor, Katie Struckel Brogan. (January 7)

Victorian Decorating and Lifestyle has ceased publication. (January 7)

Software Magazine has named a new editor, John P. Desmond. The Wiener Publishing LLC title will reduce its publishing schedule from bimonthly to quarterly issues beginning with the March issue. (January 7)

Small Business Computing Magazine will cease publication following the January issue. (January 7)

Runner's World will launch a Spanish edition on February 19, the title's ninth international release. Targeted circulation is estimated at 20,000. (January 7)

Recharger, a publication of 101 communications, has named a new managing editor, Julie Kerrane, formerly an associate editor with the title. (January 7)

CRM, Field Force Automation and Knowledge Management, formerly published by Freedom Magazines, a wholly owned subsidiary of Freedom Communications Inc., have been acquired by Line56 Media. (January 7)
