New lifestyle title launches March 18 February 25, 2002 - A new Los Angeles lifestyle title, LA Confidential, will debut March 18 by publisher Jason Binn, whose other titles include Hamptons and Gotham. The first issue will cover the Oscars, with a second issue due out in September and the title publishing monthly in 2003. The magazine is edited by Roger Friedman and will launch with a distribution of 50,000 copies. Latin beauty featured in special People en ESPANOL issue February 25, 2002 - Suggestions for a special bilingual People en ESPANOL issue featuring Latin beauty thorough the eyes of Hispanic celebrities should be addressed to the title's fashion and beauty editor, Lucy Lara. New tech title to launch February 20, 2002 - Dig-It is the planned new tech title that aspires to be the "Rolling Stone of tech," something along the lines of celebrities modeling new high tech equipment. The premier issue is planned for May, with the first monthly edition due out in September. New knitting title launched February 11, 2002 - Knit It! is a new knitting and crocheting magazine launched by Meredith Corporation. The premier issue debuted in December and the next issue is set to be available sometime in the fall. Sports Illustrated names two new editors
New music title most likely to cater to subculture February 6, 2002 - Alan Light, who will leave his editor-in-chief position at Spin mid-March, is joining forces with former Vibe and Spin publisher John Rollins to create a new music magazine. The title will most likely not cater to the general music audience, but rather, aim towards a particular musical style or subculture. Funding is being sought at this time. New title for triathletes expected in May February 4, 2002 - American Tri is the name of a new independent quarterly magazine for triathletes set to debut this May. Distribution is expected at race venues and triathlon-specific stores, clubs and collegiate programs. The publishing frequency will be increased to monthly starting in December. Most Wired Magazine premiers this month February 4, 2002 - Health Forum is launching a new quarterly magazine titled Hospitals & Health Networks Most Wired Magazine. Four new titles planned in the UK February 4, 2002 - WH Smith is planning to launch four new titles next month, including a men's lifestyle and career title called Payday, a women's lifestyle and parenting title named Family, a woman's fitness title called Fit and Healthy and a women's lifestyle magazine titled Wish. Wired has announced a new senior editor, Robert Levine, formerly the senior editor at New York. (February 27) Segunda Juventud (Second Youth), a quarterly bilingual newspaper for Hispanics over 50-years-old, will be distributed to 250,000 Hispanic AARP members in Texas, New York, California, Florida and Puerto Rico, effectively doubling the title's circulation in 2002. (February 18) Photo Trade News has announced a new editor, Dan Havlik, formerly the managing editor of Studio Photography & Design. Editorial content is expected to shift to more hard-hitting imaging industry news. (February 18) Motor Trend has named a new editor-in-chief, Ronald L. Sessions. (February 18) M-Business will cease publication following the March issue. The title was published by CMP Media. (February 18) Biotech is the new publication for the bio-IT market in Sweden set to launch in April. Published by International Data Group, it is the sister publication of Bio-IT World and will be published seven times per year with a controlled circulation of 20,000. (February 18) Travel Weekly has changed its publishing schedule to weekly instead of twice a week. (February 13) Network Computing Magazine has named a new editor-in-chief, Rob Preston, formerly editor-in-chief of InternetWeek. (February 13) 7x7 will be increasing its distribution base next week from a few thousand to as many as 30,000. The bimonthly regional magazine will be inserted into The San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. (February 13) Printed Circuit Design, Circuits Assembly and PC FAB, part of CMP Media Inc.'s PCB group, have been acquired by UP Media, a start-up company formed by PCB group publisher Pete Waddell. (February 11) Body & Soul is the new name of New Age Publishing's' 27-year-old magazine New Age Journal. (February 11) The Women's Mirror is a new women's title being published in Kabul, Afghanistan. The four-page publication covers news and social affairs. (February 11) Iowa Stater, the Iowa State University alumni magazine, has folded after 27 years. (February 11) DogWorld, which caters to the show breeder, has been acquired by Fancy Publications from Primedia Inc. and editorial staff changes are expected. The company is also set to purchase Cats Magazine in June. (February 11) Spin has announced an interim editor-in-chief, Sia Michel, who will serve when Alan Light steps down in March. Michel is currently the title's executive editor. (February 6) Server/Workstation Expert ceased publication following its December issue. (February 6) Smithsonian has appointed a new science editor, Terence Monmaney, formerly a staff writer with The Los Angeles Times. (February 6) Line56 Media is the new name of Line56. (February 6) TechWeb, a CMP Media title, has named a new editor-in-chief, Fredric Paul, who was promoted from executive editor. (February 6) Relix magazine, a jam-band bimonthly music title, has grown since last March from 1,800 to 7,000 subscribers, with 40,000 issues printed and distributed in bookstores and music shops. (February 4) Ms. Magazine, recently acquired by the Feminist Majority Foundation, is searching for a new editor-in-chief. The title is moving from its New York offices to Los Angeles and most staffers will not be making the move. (February 4) Mediaweek has named a new editor, Brian Moran, who was promoted from his position as executive editor. (February 4) Editor & Publisher has named a new editor, Greg Mitchell, formerly editor of Crawdaddy. (February 4) Defense News has appointed a new European editor, Andrew Chuter. (February 4) Communications Solutions has been folded into Customer Interactive Solutions. Communications Outsourcing is now an Internet site only. Technology Marketing Corp owns all titles. (February 4) Cable World has named a new editor-in-chief, Bill Gloede. (February 4) AmericanStyle magazine will increased its publication frequency from four to six issues in 2003.
