Rosie's names new staff

February 28, 2001 - Rosie's, the remake of McCalls', has named two new executive editors, Carol Kramer, formerly the editor at Real Simple, and Jane Farrell, a senior editor on McCalls'. The title's May debut issue is expected to hit the newsstands on April 3.

US Weekly now a Wenner Media/Disney publication

February 28, 2001 - US Weekly, the Wenner Media entertainment publication, is now equally owned by Walt Disney Company. The new holding company is US Weekly LLC, which will remain in New York and continue to be managed by existing US Weekly executives.

Content from US Weekly is expected to be used in such venues as "The View," entertainment segments on ABC-owned television stations and radio networks, as well as on SoapNet. The Walt Disney Internet Group is exploring ways to utilize content from the title in its various entertainment Web sites.

New gay and lesbian title to launch

February 26, 2001 - The Journal of Gay & Lesbian Information Resources is planning its premier issue for Spring 2002. The title is seeking articles on any aspect of gay/lesbian information, both scholarly and practical. Hotdots changes publishing schedule

February 26, 2001 - Hotdots, a woman's Web-shopping title launched late last year, is already in trouble. Plans called for bimonthly publication in 2001 and monthly issues in 2002, but now the magazine will release a May-June issue as another test before deciding the title's fate.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia to expand baby title to include kids

February 21, 2001 - Martha Stewart Baby will be joined by Martha Stewart Kids on an alternating quarterly basis starting with the Spring 2001 issue of Martha Stewart Baby.

Martha Stewart Kids will cover child care for kids ages three- to 10-years old. Content will focus on ideas, activities and projects that children can create on their own or with their parents.

"[Martha Stewart Kids] is geared to give equally sound advice and useful ideas to parents of slightly older kids," noted Martha Stewart.

New teen and celebrity title in the works

February 21, 2001 - Emap Elan, a London publisher, is busy planning two new titles. The first is a high-profile teen title being developed by More editor Marina Gask. The second is a celebrity title for older female readers.

New gardening title to launch in April

February 21, 2001 - The Gardener, a new gardening title focusing entirely on plants, garden design and gardening techniques, will premier in April. The target audience is active gardeners rather that the armchair kind noted editor Thomas Cooper, who left his position as editor of Horticulture after 20 years. The title will be co-published by White Flower Farm, a Litchfield, Conn.-based mail order nursery. New e-zine launches for women seeking an inspired lifestyle

Six US titles fold, Business 2.0 may be sold

February 21, 2001 - Official Dreamcast Magazine, Revolution, Total Movie, T3, Digital Photo and Maximum Linux, all published by Imagine Media, a subsidiary of UK-based The Future Network, will fold. The company is exploring the sale or a joint venture option for the new economy title Business 2.0. In addition, The Future Network will close six titles in the UK along with eight titles in France and Germany.

Three Sesame Workshop publications to cease publication in April

February 14, 2001 - Sesame Street Parents will fold in April, along with Contact Kids and Kid City magazines. And while Sesame Street Magazine will still gather content form the Sesame Workshop, the production, marketing and distribution will be handed over to Time Inc.'s Parenting Group.

Look for content changes at Family Money

February 14, 2001 - Family Money will reinvent itself following the March/April issue, although a new content direction was not spelled out. The past year saw a focus on women-related money issues. The four-year-old bimonthly title will cease subscription-based circulation, concentrating on newsstand sales and greater emphasis on its website. The New York editorial staff is being disbanded. No further information was immediately available.

Code ceases publication while seeking buyer

February 14, 2001 - Larry Flynt Publications has ceased publishing Code, a lifestyle title for black men, following the February issue. A new buyer is being sought for the magazine that was subtitled The Style Magazine for Men of Color.

New fashion doll title welcomes submissions

Portion of Marie Claire sold to rival publisher

February 12, 2001 - Marie Claire, the fashion and beauty magazine owned jointly by French publisher Marie Claire Album and Hearst Corporation, will now be owned in partnership by Hearst and Hachette Flipacchi Medias, publishers of rival title Elle. Marie Claire currently has a circulation of 887,000, just slightly under Elle.

February 7, 2001 - Women.com, an online destination for women interested in health, food and money, which features content from Hearst magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Town & Country and Marie Claire, has been sold to rival iVillage.com. The Hearst content will be acquired by parent company iVillage Inc.

CIO Insight targets senior level tech execs

February 7, 2001 - A new monthly publication will launch in May, targeting senior-level technology executives looking for information about strategic information and business technology. Editor-in-chief Ellen Pearlman noted that qualitative and quantitative research, strategic perspective and insightful opinions will form the content focus of CIO Insight. The title is published by Ziff Davis Media Inc. No contact information was readily available.

New online music magazine covers much, much more

February 7, 2001 - Poptones, an online music web site out of London, has reformatted itself as an e-zine, with opinion reviews and editorials covering everything from new music and movies to politics and current affairs. The lime green web site certainly sets the stage, but the only contact information to CEO Alan McGee and online editor Tim Tooher seems to be through admin@poptones.co.uk.

Home Office Computing re-launches as Home Office

February 5, 2001 - Home Office Computing will re-launch with the May issue under the new title Home Office. In addition, expanded coverage on technology, the Web, legal, financial, sales and marketing issues, is expected.


Los Angeles Confidential is a new title planned to launch in spring 2002 by publisher Jason Binn. Mr. Binn also publishes Ocean Drive, Hamptons and Gotham, all local upscale fashion and lifestyle magazines. (February 28)

Bloomberg Personal Finance magazine has named a new general editor, William McGuire. (February 28)

Modern Maturity has named a new deputy editor, Steven Slon, formerly the editor-in-chief of Web site Fitlinxx. (February 28)

American Banker, The Bond Buyer, A.S. Pratt, Credit Union Journal, National Mortgage News and Sheshunoff Information Services, all commercial banking publications, are being put on the auction block by Canadian publisher Thomson Corp.'s U.S.-based Thomson Financial division. Financial planning titles also up for sale include Financial Planning, On Wall Street, Securities Industry News and Traders Magazine. (February 28)

SmartMoney has appointed a new editor-in-chief, Peter Finch. (February 28)

Electronic Commerce World now has an online edition at ECOMWORLD.com, which features editorial articles not found in the print magazine. (February 28)

CookingLight.com has a new editor, Maelynn Cheung, formerly the e-zine's managing editor. (February 26)

Nutrition Business Journal will become part of Penton Media's New Hope Natural Media division located in Boulder, Colo. New Hope also publishes Natural Food Merchandiser and Delicious Living! (February 26)

Industry Standard's parent company Standard Media International has laid off 18 editorial staffers. More specific information was not immediately available. (February 26)

Zcast.tv, a web technology news channel, has a new editor-in-chief, John Dodge. Mr. Dodge also changed roles at eWeek, moving from editor to editor-at-large. (February 26)

Diablo has a new managing editor as of March 9, Robert Strohmeyer, formerly the assistant editor at Smart Business magazine. (February 26)

Vibe has named a new senior editor, Shani Saxon. (February 21)

Internet World, ISPWorld, Service Management, IT Consultant and m-Commerce World are now published by Penton Media Europe following the acquisition of Hillgate Communications, a London-based publisher. (February 21)

Fortune magazine has announced a new executive editor, Joe Nocera, formerly an editor-at-large with the title. (February 21)

Fortune magazine has named a new international editor, Robert Friedman, formerly an assistant managing editor at Life. (February 21)

Techrepublic has a new editor-in-chief, Paul Baldwin, formerly the title's community editor. (February 21)

Transaction World Magazine launched in February, covering the transaction processing industry. The monthly title, under the guidance of editor-in-chief Cynthia Dorrill, will inform Independent Sales Organizations and Merchant Service Providers on the latest in new product and marketing information, risk management and salesmanship, along with hiring and training tips and a special lifestyle section. Pro Magazine, a quarterly title published for pro athletes by Street & Smith's Sports Group, has lost its editor-in-chief, John Capouya. A replacement was not immediately announced. (February 12)

SmartMoney has a new deputy editor, John Capouya, who will be in charge of lifestyle and non-investment articles. (February 12)

eV, the monthly title covering the world of entertainment and the Internet, will be folded into the pages of Daily Variety once a month. The title, which was bundled as a supplement to Daily Variety and Weekly Variety, failed as a stand alone after just five issues. (February 7)

MH-18, a bimonthly male teen title launched by publisher Rodale less than one year ago, is reducing its publishing schedule to quarterly, starting with the May issue. Circulation is currently at 125,000. (February 7)

Teen People has officially announced that Barbara O'Dair will assume the position of editor-in-chief, following Christine Ferrari's move to Europe. (February 7)

Victoria, a 14-year-old monthly women's title published by Hearst, will undergo cosmetic changes, but the content will remain intact according to editor-in-chief Margaret Kennedy. (February 7)

MSI is the new title for the monthly magazine Manufacturing Systems. Content continues to cover management applications in manufacturing. (February 7)

Consumer Reports Online has named a managing editor, Judy Hartnett, for the newly created position. Ms. Hartnett was formerly managing editor at Working Woman magazine. (February 7)

TIME Digital will be renamed ON magazine starting with the March issue. The monthly title is from the editors of TIME magazine group. (February 5)

Jalouse France, a French fashion magazine, will debut a bimonthly American version, with 100,00 copies distributed in eight major cities. The audience is worldly, smart, style-savvy people that are young and funky. (February 5)

Golf Digest, Golf Digest Woman, Golf World and Golf World Business have been sold by The New York Times Company to Advance Publications. (February 5)

Car Care is a new quarterly magazine from Popular Mechanics, a Hearst Corp. title. The magazine premieres today at AutoZone stores and will cover the care and maintenance of automobiles. (February 5)

Cooking Light has announced a new editor, Mary Kay Culpepper, formerly the title's executive editor. Ms. Culpepper replaces Doug Crichton who recently joined Health magazine as editor. (February 5)

Expedia Travels has doubled its ratebase to 300,000 reported published Ziff Davis Media. (February 5)

Gear has named a new senior editor, Michael Martin, who will edit the front of the title. (February 5)
