Trade magazine expands content coverage

December 28, 2005 - PRINTMEDIA MAGAZINE will change its name to PUBLISHING EXECUTIVE beginning with the January issue.  In addition, the editorial focus will push past print publication production information and add "content for magazine management and interactive and online publishing."  That means coverage on digital editions, e-newsletters, Web publishing, webcasts, podcasts, custom publishing, and audio and video topics.

Noelle Skodzinski is editor-in-chief of this North American Publishing Company title.  The new website can be found at http://www.pubexec.com.
 

Virginia wines are front and center

December 28, 2005 - OFFICIAL VIRGINIA WINE LOVER is being created to "promote Virginia wines and Virginia's finest products."  Topics include tips, trivia, recipes from winery chefs, wine pairings, and festival coverage.

Frank Britt oversees the quarterly magazine, which is due to launch before the June festival season starts. Distribution will be to statewide wineries.
 

Luxe market magazine to launch

December 27, 2005 - RELATED is all about conspicuous consumption for the high-end luxury market.  The target audience is "current and prospective owners of condominiums" being developed by the Related Group.

This SoBe News title will launch in February with a distribution of 25,000 copies.
 

AHF relaunches as MAXIMUM FITNESS

December 21, 2005 - AMERICAN HEALTH & FITNESS magazine will relaunch in January as MAXIMUM FITNESS.  The content focus remains on providing current information regarding training, nutrition, health, and sports performance and is marketed to young men seeking a "no-nonsense guide to achieving their fitness goals."

Matt Nicholls heads up the editorial team for the retitled bimonthly publication.  The magazine is published by Canusa Publishing Group and will be distributed in Canada, the U.S., and internationally via newsstands, bookstores, retail shops, and by subscription.  The initial distribution is 200,000 copies.
 

New magazine for working women in Utah

December 20, 2005 - UTAH CAREERS FOR WOMEN is a new magazine that addresses the "mix of challenges specific to women."  Topics include discussions of hot occupations within the state, "balancing work and family, salaries, childcare, negotiating with the boss, and how to sell yourself."

The title is published by The Department of Workforce services and will be available at http://jobs.utah.gov.

Regional teen magazine launches

December 20, 2005 - JORREST TEEN MAGAZINE has debuted its first issue in the Gwinnett County area of Georgia.  Topics include fashion, life-issue struggles, games, school, family and friends, and recipes.

The magazine was created by two 11-year-old girls, Marlaina James and Dazsenee Forrest, and is overseen by senior editor Marilyn James.  The title is a quarterly publication distributed by subscription and can be found online at http://www.jorrest-teen-magazine.com.
 

New genealogy publication planned

December 20, 2005 - INTERNET GENEALOGY is getting ready to launch its debut April/May 2006 issue, with reviews of Internet databases and research tools, along with case studies that chronicle how specific people found clues to their family's history.

Halvor Moorshead is editor of this bimonthly magazine, a sister title to FAMILY CHRONICLE. The ratebase is 20,000 copies with distribution via subscription and nationwide newsstands.
 

BOOKTECH MAGAZINE undergoes changes

December 19, 2005 - Not only will BOOKTECH MAGAZINE be renamed to BOOK BUSINESS, but the editorial coverage is going to expand.  New topics include bottom-line-oriented case studies and news for top-tier executives on business management, marketing, market trends, distribution and fulfillment, packaging, content management, design, industry people, and events.

The title is published by North American Publishing Company and the changes will be effective starting with the January issue.
 

CLAMOR expands coverage

December 19, 2005 - CLAMOR MAGAZINE will relaunch with its Spring 2006 issue, featuring expanded and more in-depth editorial content on culture, politics, people, economics, sex and gender, media, and independent media reviews.

The title also changes to quarterly publication, down from six issues per year.  The website is http://www.clamormagazine.org.
 

Supplement magazine takes it all in stride

December 13, 2005 - PROJECT RUNWAY magazine "contains profiles and information on contestants, judges and storylines" from Bravo TV's Project Runway show.  Also featured are profiles of behind-the-scene stylists and designers.

This title is an ELLE supplement and debuts in the January issue, with additional distribution on newsstands and in Banana Republic stores.  Published by Hachette Filipacchi Media, the second issue will appear in mid-March.
 

Snowboard magazine takes off

December 13, 2005 - The core topics of FUTURE SNOWBOARDING magazine are "what to buy, where to go and how to make the most of your precious days on the hill." Articles will also cover tests and reviews, resort profiles, photography, and personality profiles.

ELLE GIRL changes

December 12, 2005 - The February issue of ELLE GIRL signals a change in editorial content at the magazine. Additional topics to be covered include well-being, mental health, and profiles of cool teen girl blogs. The issues will also be more "body conscious," with features on body image that more fully reflect all shapes and sizes.

Editor-in-chief Christina Kelly noted that by incorporating changes she is "just aiming to create a magazine that's smart and funny and takes the reader seriously."
 

PURCHASING updates content

December 8, 2005 - PURCHASING MAGAZINE is adding more editorial content starting with the January 12 issue according to editor-in-chief Paul E. Teague.

New features include: Scale Up - buying trends and medium-size company initiatives; CPO - high level executives offer industry viewpoints; Players - profiling industry movers and shakers.
 

Pub launches for black Canadians

December 8, 2005 - Lifestyle magazine SWAY launched last week, reflecting the interests of "Canada's diverse community of African and Caribbean Canadians."  Articles report on news, finance, and fashion, and profiles prominent people.

Publisher Chioma of Chioma Productions oversees the quarterly title, which is a joint venture with Metroland Printing, Publishing & Distributing, a subsidiary of Torstar Corporation.  There was an initial distribution of 50,000 copies in the Toronto area.

New water sport chronicled

December 8, 2005 - WAKESURFING MAGAZINE is preparing its March 2006 launch issue to cover the sport of wakesurfing. Content includes board design and selection, "how-to" moves, destinations, gear, and profiles of riders and board makers.

The quarterly title is based in Templeton, Calif. with distribution by subscription.  The planned ratebase was not immediately available.

New faith-based lifestyle mag to launch

December 6, 2005 - Catholic teen girls are the target audience of TRUE GIRL, a new magazine set to offer "practical ideas about fashion, music and friends" as well as articles about responsible choices grounded in faith.

Brandi Lee is editor of this bi-monthly title, which will debut with the February/March issue. Although ratebase information was not immediately available, distribution will be by subscription and to diocesan schools, youth groups and nationwide youth conventions. The website is http://www.truegirlonline.com.
 

New science mag for kids

December 6, 2005 - KNOW is the new science magazine for curious kids in Canada. The target audience is six- to nine-year olds. Content being developed includes a look at ice and snow, the solar system, beach life, light and color, dogs, and balloons.

Adrienne Mason is editor of this bi-monthly title due to launch in January. 4,000 subscribers are onboard so far.
 

SoCal lifestyle pub launches

December 6, 2005 - SUNDAY LUXURY launched November 20 with coverage on fashion, entertainment, charity functions, culture, beauty, automotive, arts, health and fitness, home and garden, food and spirits, travel, computer and electronics, real estate, and interior design coverage.

Publisher David Gordon oversees this weekly title. The controlled circulation to affluent households in and around Beverly Hills, Calif. is 115,000.
 

New mag for gay men

December 1, 2005 - ENVY MAN debuted with its October issue, covering celebrity profiles, fashion, artists, travel, and current events. The target audience is 25- to 50-year-old affluent gay men.

Jeffrey Lovari is editor-in-chief of the bimonthly title and the website is http://www.envyman.com.

Regional Virginia title to launch

December 1, 2005 - NORTHERN VIRGINIA magazine is set to "celebrate the finer things in life" and will feature articles on local food, wine, arts, entertainment, and politics as well as fashion, health, and beauty.

Managing editor Karen Chaffraix oversees the title, which plans nine issues per year. The ratebase was not immediately known.
