The Archives: August, 2003 New travel magazine to debut in October Aug 26, 2003 - LPI Media, the publisher of Out and The Advocate is launching The Out Traveler this October. It is designed to help gay travelers escape the bounds of gay resorts that are well-known safe havens, such as Palm Springs, CA and Provincetown, MA. But the idea is to expand the horizons of the straight world, as well as The Out Traveler's readers. "This is something the travel market is looking for," says Joe Landry, publisher of The Out Traveler. "Travel is down across the board, but the gay and lesbian community continues to travel." The Out Traveler will be polybagged with the October issue of Out, reaching more than 165,000 readers. MTV magazine to be tested The first issue will be published in late October with the theme of " Spankin' New" and be tied to a new music week airing on MTV in November. The second issue will be a review of the 2003 theme "Rewind" and will hit newsstands in December. It will have an initial run of 300,000 issues and will be priced at $5.99 each. Nickelodeon Magazine Group will publish both issues. Scottsdale Life to end publication Aug 25, 2003 - Scottsdale Life, a free monthly magazine, will cease to exist with its September issue. Since the Latino market is split 50/50 English and Spanish speakers, having two Catalina magazines will help the publisher reach more Latinas in the Hispanic community -- of which there are 20 million in the US.
