New luxury real estate mag launches

April 30, 2005 - ULTIMATE HOMES "gives readers unparalleled insight into news, trends, and hotspots in the luxury real estate market."   The magazine is interested in creating "a true portrait of the luxury market at its highest levels," and concentrates on ranking and showing "the most expensive properties for sale in the United States."   Publication frequency and circulation information was not immediately available.  The title's sister magazine is UNIQUE HOMES.

Planned pet pub focuses on cutting-edge material

April 30, 2005 - WAG MAGAZINE is not your ordinary pet publication, devoting itself instead to "the art of living with a dog."   Although health-related information and standard do's and don't of pet care will be included, this clearly is not the main focus.

Information and entertainment content will feature top fashion information, edgy humor, in-depth guides to grooming, and pop culture.   A special feature on dog care will be delivered in a "reality TV-style."

New mag covers life in Maryland

April 30, 2005 - MARYLAND LIFE magazine chronicles both ordinary and extraordinary aspects of the state of Maryland.   Content includes best kept secrets, products, outstanding citizens, innovation in homestyle, dining insights, unique artists, historical perspectives and travel destinations.

The bi-monthly publication launched its January/February debut with 2,000 subscriptions and a controlled circulation of 50,000 copies.  The subscription cost is $14.95 per year.

New pub seeks to connect cultures

April 30, 2005 - ALO HAYATI is a new magazine focused on capturing the "beauty and heritage of the Middle East."  Content will include social affairs, fashion, cuisine, health, entertainment, travel, art, heritage, commerce and business, technology, innovations, family values, and products and services from around the world.  This upscale lifestyle magazine's title means "Hello Darling," and articles focus on "living the good life" and are neither politically or religiously oriented.  The subscriber base is envisioned as not only Middle Eastern people here in the U.S., but Hispanic and Caucasian readers as well.  Michael Lloyd is editor-in-chief.   Suggestions can be forwarded to Jack Reed, editorial director, at jack@uniquemageinc.com.  The publishing company is Unique Image.

Spirit of home schooling captured in new pub

April 30, 2005 - Family's who home school their children are the focus of NAVIGO MAGAZINE, a new publication featuring "articles written from a historical, cultural, and scientific perspective."  The first issue of this education magazine is due out May 18 and offers readers information on travel, products, news, and family events, as well as interviews of families "who exemplify the spirit of experiential learning."  Nissa Gadbois is editor of the bi-monthly title.  Two additional issues covering elite sports will be published for summer and winter.


Latino culture captured in revamped mag

April 30, 2005 - UN CHIN MAGAZINE was re-released last month as a nationally distributed publication focusing on art, fashion, politics, language, and entertainment.  Content will "accentuate the pulse of the new Latino culture.   "The bi-monthly magazine is written 85% in English and 15% in Spanish.  Ramon Veras is editorial director. Global hip-hop culture featured in new mag

April 30, 2005 - Expanding its online presence, VERBALISMS is now a print magazine concentrating on "ideas and sources that shape the mainstream and underground movement of hip-hop" from a woman's perspective.  Content hinges on exploring the politics, revolutions, and lifestyles in an irreverent and fresh way.  Examples include artist profiles, club reviews, and exploring the culture of graffiti.  Raquel Wilson is editor-in-chief of this Chicago-based magazine.  Distribution is throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and South Africa.

African American lifestyle mag relaunches

April 30, 2005 - SAVOY debuted its reappearance on the magazine market with a February issue.  Content continues to center on presenting trendy, savvy and topical stories aimed at affluent, professional African American readers.  The only change appears to be a new list of columnists with additional columns in financial advice, inspiration and social commentary.  Monroe Anderson joined the publication as editor. The title will publish 10 issues per year (combined June/July and December/January) with a circulation of 325,000 and is now published by Jazzy Communications, a division of Hartman Publishing

.New home decor pub appears this month

April 30, 2005 - AT HOME WITH CHRIS MADDEN, a new home design and decoration magazine, is set to appear on newsstands and in J.C. Penny stores May 3.  The focus is "home as a haven," with articles centering on the concept of simplicity, comfort and American sophistication.  Olivia Monjo is editor-in-chief.  Ms. Monjo will work with Ms. Chris Madden, best-selling author of sixteen home decoration and design books, who serves as editorial director.  The frequency of the publication has not been announced at this time, although it was reported that 400,000 total copies will be distributed. The title is published by Hachette Filipacci, Special Interest Publications' division.

New lifestyle mag targets affluent Latinos in L.A.

April 30, 2005 - TU CIUDAD MAGAZINE is set to launch as the "definitive guide to Los Angeles culture, entertainment and lifestyle for urbane Latinos and other like-minded Angelenos."  Content will showcase Latino culture in the city with articles on people, places, trends and serious issues.  Oscar Garza is editor of this Emmis Publishing title, which also publishes LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE.  The launch date and schedule frequency was not immediately available.  Is up-to-date magazine news important to you?  Then submit your email address in the box to the left to receive Meg's informative newsletter.

Women poker players gain new lifestyle mag

April 29, 2005 - A woman's perspective of poker playing, including profiles, inside strategy tips, tournament coverage, fashion, and wellness, is the focus of a new magazine, WOMAN POKER PLAYER.  Published six times per year, the magazine is edited by Barbara Enright. Maryann Morrison is publisher. A subscriber list of over 4,000 women is further supplemented by distribution to card rooms throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Lifestyle mag targets five counties in Maryland

April 29, 2005 - Active, high-end homeowners are the focus of MASON-DIXON ARRIVE magazine.  Each monthly issue has a special focus for local writers to capture the history, people and places of Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties.  Regular columns report on gardening, fine dining, wine, travel, day trips, fitness, history, horses, antiques, shopping, interior design, and home renovation.  The magazine is edited by Gregory Alexander, who is accepting suggestions at info@stonehousepubs.com.  40,000 copies are distributed through subscriptions and area shops, antique stores, design centers and galleries.

June launch planned for ski resort industry pub

April 29, 2005 - Ski and snowboard professionals and employees at 500 North American resorts are the target audience for MOUNTAIN RESORT MAGAZINE.  The bimonthly publication will cover operations information, human resource opportunities, management practices, and entertaining reviews of daily challenges.  Gard Skinner is publisher.  4,000 copies will be distributed to all levels of resort operations, marketing and management people.  Would you like more magazine news?  It is available by signing up in the subscriber's box to the left.

Fitness and lifestyle mag launches for men 35-54

April 29, 2005 - Launched in March, with only two monthly issues immediately following it, SLY is a hybrid magazine "for men of a certain age" seeking coverage on not only health and fitness, but "his personal life" as well.  Comparisons are being made to MEN'S HEALTH and BEST LIFE.  Although Sylvester Stallone is not involved in the editing process, at 58 years of age, his life experiences clearly shape the editorial content, with a focus on one-stop shopping advice on a broad range of subjects.  Example topics include exercise programs, surviving a divorce, selecting the best of wines, cigars, grooming products, fashions, SUVs, DVDs, and flat-screen TVs.Neal Boulton is editor-in-chief of this American Media (AMI) publication, with a 125,000 copy circulation that could jump into the hundreds of thousands if AMI commits to the 10 issues per year as anticipated.  If you are looking for great magazine news coverage, why not consider signing up for the newsletter. New neurology pub covers day-to-day issues

April 29, 2005 - NEUROLOGY NOW is a new magazine for patients living with epilepsy, migraine, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease, as well as their family caregivers and friends. This quarterly aims to educate and increase public awareness with "reports on the latest advances in research and treatment in easy-to-read language."  Articles will also focus on tips for living and coping techniques and "put the avalanche of new information in proper perspective."  Robin Brey, MD is editor-in-chief.  The title is published by the American Academy of Neurology (http://www.aan.com) in cooperation with Lippincott Williams & Wilkins and is distributed to appropriate waiting rooms as well as by subscription.

Affluent African Americans are audience for new mag

April 29, 2005 - A new magazine titled OUR WEEKLY has surfaced for African American communities of Southern California.  Serving affluent readers in and around the greater Los Angeles area, the publication will focus on human interest stories, social commentary, health, medicine, fitness, and profiles of black community leaders.  Additional in-depth coverage includes wealth and education, community information, sports, religion, spirituality, entertainment, and real estate.

Elizabeth Johns is editor.  The website is http://www.ourweekly.com.  Distribution will reach 150,000 readers by subscription, with copies placed in area shops.

New pub to rev up NASCAR fans

April 29, 2005 - RACING FAN, whose first issue went out March 28, is aimed directly at men in their late 30s and early 40s who cannot get enough of race drivers' strategies and rivalries, insights on the tracks and pit areas, and reviews of NASCAR-related entertainment products.  Scott Mowbray is editorial director.  The second issue, which continues to capture a "sense of spectacle and fun," hits newsstands on May 16 with a distribution of 250,000 copies at $3.99 per copy.  The future of this Time4 Media publication will be assessed thereafter.

Need-to-know stories covered by NYC PLUS

April 29, 2005 - New York residents aged 50 and over, who live life to the fullest, have a new monthly source of information.  NYC PLUS aims to "keep their readers informed, entertained, and inspired."  The topic list is extensive, including health, entertainment, career changes, travel options, assisted living trends, financial and estate planning, and food.  Profiles will cover famous and not-so-famous neighbors as well as "people who have battled challenges and won."   The editor for this Community Media publication is Jennie Green.  The website is http://www.nyc-plus.com.

Consumer electronics pub to launch in June

DIGITALLIFE magazine will offer articles and reviews of the newest trends in consumer electronics products and services.  The magazine will be produced each year in June and October, with 150,000 copies distributed via newsstands.  Jeremy Kaplan is editor.

Shelter mag for San Francisco Bay area launches

April 29, 2005 - Luxury homeowners in the San Francisco North and East Bay area are the target audience for DESIGN FOR LIVING magazine.  Focusing on "trends, products, and ideas for enhancing life indoors and out,"  the publication covers design and architectural styles from urban lofts to suburban estates.  Content is "expert-driven editorial," to ensure that homeowners in affluent communities, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa and Solano counties, are inspired, motivated and excited.

New mag for food enthusiasts in New York City

Upscale parenting mag to launch this fall

April 29, 2005 - COOKIE magazine is slated to engage 25- to 45-year old parents interested in blending their children's lives with their own.  The editorial focus incorporates everyday activities, travel, children's products, and will also report on issues such as adoption of healthy babies.  Pilar Guzman will be editor for this Fairchild Publications title.  Publication frequency was not announced, but the cover price is $3.50 and will launch sometime this fall.

Full-figured women courted by BEAUTIFUL

April 29, 2005 - A new lifestyle magazine for size 14+ women is scheduled to launch this summer.  Editorial content for BEAUTIFUL will blend beauty, love, sex, relationships, non-diet related health coverage, and fashion for the nearly 70 million, full-figured women in North America.

Editorial sections will include celebrity interviews, book and movie reviews, social coverage and other lifestyle topics, with a "size positive emphasis."

New food pub focuses on cooking for two

April 29, 2005 - COOKING FOR 2 is the latest magazine to join Reiman Publications'  TASTE OF HOME series of publications.  The target audience includes empty-nesters, newlyweds, retirees, single and small households.  Content focuses on recipes for two people provided by readers and "is credited for growing a new market of young people ages 25 to 35."  The quarterly magazine was launched in January with a $12.98 annual subscription rate.  Editorial contact information was not immediately available.

On Wheels expands ethnic reach

April 29, 2005 - ASIANS ON WHEELS provides automobile information and entertainment for Asian car enthusiasts.  The magazine aims to "appeal to both men and women and will have the ability to attract and appeal to all ethnic minorities and general market readers."  Launched in March, the quarterly publication will be distributed to Asian communities nationwide.  The magazine joins On Wheels, Inc.'s established sister magazines AFRICAN AMERICANS ON WHEELS and LATINOS ON WHEELS.  Rebecca Yang is editor.  The publisher's website is http://onwheelsinc.com/.
