Worth goes down but may not be out If the sale is successful, the magazine would reportedly resume publication under new owners, according to Media Life. If a buyer can’t be found, the magazine may disappear. The move follows news last month that the magazine was laying of its entire staff and cutting its frequency from 10 to eight issues a year. Editor tapped for male version of Lucky April 28, 2003 – Conde Nast has named former In Style editor Ariel Foxman to head an as yet untitled magazine for men patterned after successful Lucky magazine. Mysteries revealed April 23, 2003 – Water on Mars? Contents of Dr. Jekyll’s cocktail? Out of body experiences? Answers to these mysteries and others are the subject of a new magazine aptly named Mysteries. The debut issue of the magazine explores the presence of water on the red planet, a cocaine-fueled drink that served as the inspiration for the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story and the Ark of the Covenant. The tag line for the quarterly magazine is “Exploring Mysteries from Modern Times to Yesteryear.” Balance hopes to help busy women The quarterly magazine plans to offer “a refreshing, light-hearted” look at getting and staying organized. The magazine will cater to women trying to manage time and space. Look for it in Border’s bookstores. Hearst will fold Victoria According to Media Week, “economic uncertainty” did in the 16-year-old magazine. Gear shifts into neutral According to Ad Week, Guccione is hoping to bring the magazine back in September with a less "laddie" look in effort to distinguish it from competitors like Maxim and FHM, mainstays of the babes, beer and gadget magazine niche. Great Chefs Magazine toasts chefs and fancy food April 2, 2003 – Forget simple, comfort food, Great Chefs Magazine seeks to introduce readers to the world of elaborate, high-end cuisine and the men and women behind the Wolf stoves who create it at the world’s best restaurants. The new bimonthly magazine profiles chefs and presents recipes from their restaurants. The magazine is part of the Discovery Network’s Travel Channel TV series of the same name. “Unlike other food magazines, we emphasize chefs themselves, who are some of the hardest-working professionals in the world, and our audience is the food lover who aspires to be a great home chef,” says Editor Steve Lacy in an interview with Media Life. With the success of the celebrity chefs on television, writers should keep an eye on the magazine to see if the concept translates into print.
